This paper proposes a Proportional-Integral (PI) control voltage tracking of Bridgeless Power Factor Correction (BPFC) Cuk converter.  In order to investigate the behaviour of different output voltages during overshoot, steady state and step response, P.I controller is designed to set the -42 V, -48 V, -54 V output voltages. The simulation results show that the proposed PI controller able to control the output voltage and achieve fast steady state and step response of BPFC Cuk converter.  When the value of output voltage increase, the overshoot voltage will become higher but the steady state respond will be faster. Furthermore, BPFC Cuk converter with P.I controller have low output voltage ripples.

In the last decades, a lot of effort has been made in order to improve the use of environmentally friendly and renewable energy sources. In a context of small energy usage, energy harvesting takes place and thermal energy sources are one of its main energy sources because there are several unused heat sources available in the environment that may be used as renewable energy sources. To rapidly evaluate the energy potential of such thermal sources is a hard task, therefore, a way to perform this is welcome. In this work, a thermal pattern emulation system to evaluate potential thermal source in a easy way is proposed. The main characteristics of the proposed system is that it is online and remote, that is, while the thermal-source-under-test is being measured, the system is emulating it and evaluating the generated energy remotely. The main contribution of this work was to replace the conventional Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller to a Fuzzy-Proportional Integral (PI) controller. In order to compare both controllers, three tests were carried out, namely: (a) step response, (b) perturbation test, (c) thermal emulation of the thermal pattern obtained from a potential thermal source: tree trucks. Experimental results show that the Fuzzy-PI controller was faster than the PID, achieving a setting time 41.26% faster, and also was more efficient with a maximum error 53% smaller than the PID.

A switched controller is designed for the Boost DC /DC converter. The proposed switched controller takes advantage of both min-projection-controller (MPC) and integral modulated pulse-width controller (IMPWC), in which the MPC deals with the transient process and the IMPWC is in charge of the steady state. Smooth switching is ensured by resetting the integral value of IMPWC according to the static average model and steady output voltage. Simulation results proved the control effect of the switched controller.

Abstract The study presents a new proposed reference current generation algorithm based on the synchronous reference frame (SRF) conventional algorithm in single-phase power system for an active power filtering. Shunt active power filter (SAPF) is often used as it can mitigate harmonic currents in the AC networks due to its superiority in dynamic-state conditions. The reference current generation algorithm is the most important control algorithms to control SAPF as it has the simplest implementation features. A proposed STF-based fundamental component identifier (STF-FCI) algorithm is implemented for the major improvements such as the removal of the unnecessary cosine function to reduce complexity of algorithm, employment of self-tuning filter (STF) to extract accurate fundamental component and to generate a sinusoidal reference current. The purpose of developing STF-FCI algorithm is to replace low pass filter (LPF) with a mean as it can generate a fast and accurate fundamental reference current to operate the SAPF in reducing the harmonics content of the power system and provide a fast response time in the dynamic-state conditions. This paper is presented under both steady-state which is capacitive (RC) load or inductive (RL) load as well as dynamic condition where capacitive load change to inductive load. The performance of steady-state condition will be evaluated in terms of THD values, ripple factor, power factor and phase difference. Under dynamic-state condition, the dynamic speed will be evaluated to capture the speed of the amplitude change in nonlinear load in a period of time. MATLAB-Simulink is used to design and evaluate the proposed STF-FCI algorithm with mean algorithm and LPF algorithm for comparison purpose. The simulation results had shown the major improvement when THD values, ripple factor, power factor and phase difference are reduced. The response time of the changing load is shorter by using mean algorithm compare to LPF algorithm. The simulation results obtained proved success when the proposed STF-FCI algorithm using mean algorithm are much better than LPF algorithm in steady-state and dynamic conditions under two voltage conditions i.e. ideal and distorted voltage.


Power factor rectification converter (PFRC) hinged bridgeless modified CUK (MCUK) converter supplied to brushless DC engine drive utilizing an Artificial Neural Network controller. Presently, alteration for traditional CUK converter can be obtained through adding a voltage multiplier circuit, to decrease converter losses for wide variation of speed to accomplish most extreme Power Factor and to limit the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The designed bridgeless PFRC based converter was investigated hypothetically to obtain the circumstances, for example, Power factor (PF) and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) are assessed and contrasted with traditional Diode Bridge Rectifier hinged CUK converter supplying to brushless DC motor drive and bridgeless altered CUK using PI controller driven brushless DC motor. Here, simulation results uncover that the ANN controllers are viable and productive contrasted with PI controller, as the steady state error when ANN control used is less and the stabilization of the system is better while using it. Additionally in ANN system, the time to perform calculation is less as there are no numerical models. The performance of the designed framework is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment.


This paper presents about the comparison between single-phase PFC Cuk converter and bridgeless PFC (BPFC) Cuk converter for low power application. This study attempts to investigate the characteristics of conventional and bridgeless PFC Cuk converter structures with three different output voltages and verified by the simulation results. The BPFC Cuk converter provides a lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of input current than the conventional PFC Cuk converter. However, the conventional PFC Cuk converter has advantage of less maximum current stress at components compared to the BPFC Cuk converter. Conventional and BPFC Cuk converter can achieve an approximately unity power factor (PF).

In this paper, a new solution to improve the traditional control operation of raceway microalgae reactors is presented. The control strategy is based on an event-based method that can be easily coupled to a classical time-driven proportional-integral controller, simplifying the design process approach. The results of a standard Proportional-Integral (PI) controller, as well as of two event-based architectures, are presented in simulation and compared with each other and with traditional On/Off control. It is demonstrated that the event-based PI controller—operating during the whole day instead of only during daytime—achieves a better performance by reducing the actuator effort and saving costs related to gas consumption.

Due to its simplicity, Proportional-Integral (PI) controller still remains as the widely used controller for motor speed control system. However, PI controller exhibits windup phenomenon when the motor operates in a saturated state, which may cause degradation to the control system. In order to overcome the windup phenomenon, many researches have introduced various types of anti-windup methods such as the Conditioning Technique (CI), Tracking Back Calculation (TBC), Integral State Prediction (ISP), Steady-state Integral Proportional Integral Controller-01 (SIPIC01) and Steady-state Integral Proportional Integral Controller-02 (SIPIC02). These are anti-windup techniques with integral control switching mechanism, coupling of proportional gain, kp, and integral gain, ki. Due to the coupled kp and ki, tuning motor performance is a difficult task with short settling time without experiencing overshoot. SIPIC01 and SIPIC02 are robust anti-windup methods without a switching mechanism and exhibit decoupling feature. SIPIC01 and SIPIC02 have shown better dynamic performance compared to CI, TBC and ISP. However, SIPIC01 has not been compared to SIPIC02 in terms of their decoupling effect flexibility and dynamic performance. The decoupling effect was verified using MATLAB simulation, while the performance analysis was verified through hardware simulation and testing by using Scilab. The results obtained from the simulation showed that both SIPIC01 and SIPIC02 consist of decoupling features that allow a performance with coexistence of zero or minimum overshoot with short settling time. However, SIPIC02 consists of longer rise and settling time as compared to SIPIC01. Therefore, it can be concluded that SIPIC01 is better than SIPIC02 in term of dynamic performance.

This paper presents a non-linear method based on sum-of-squares (SOS), to determine the stability of equilibrium points for the Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost and non-inverter Buck-Boost converters. These converters share a similar structure with a PI controller to regulate the output voltage. A quadratic Lyapunov function is proposed in all cases, and the conditions for stability are evaluated using convex optimization based on SOS models. The methodology is useful for academic purposes but also in practical applications like DC microgrids. Simulation results shows the advantages of the proposed method.
