Staff members of the Lucas County (Toledo, Ohio) Family Court Center became concerned because it seemed that while diagnosis of delinquent behavior was leaning toward an indi vidualized, differential technique, treatment methods were not correspondingly developed. The traditional one-to-one interview was often ineffective. In an effort to find useful alternative meth ods, several staff members who had participated in a group therapy experience themselves and had received in-service train ing in group methods decided to experiment. On the basis of prior social and psychological studies, six juvenile probationers were selected to participate in a series of group counseling sessions.

Background and Aim: One of the common behavioral disorders of hearing-impaired children is aggressive behavior, which can affect social adjustment in their adolescence. This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of group counseling based on problem-solving on aggression and social adjustment of hearing-impaired students. Methods: This study is quasi-experimental with pretest posttest design and a control group. The study population was all adolescents with hearing impairment referred to Yazd Speech Therapy Centers, Yazd City, Iran. A total of 30 students were selected from the referred hearing-impaired students with high aggression and low social adjustment. Then they were randomly assigned into control (n = 15) and experimental (n = 15) groups. The study instruments were the California social behavior and Buss and Perry aggression inventory. The group counseling based on problem-solving intervention consisted of 7 one-hour sessions, presented for the experimental group. We analyzed the obtained data by repeated measures analysis of covariance. Results: Group therapy based on problem-solving can reduce aggression (p < 0.001) and increase social adjustment (p = 0.04). Conclusion: The professionals in this field are recommended to use group therapy based on problem-solving.

The widespread use of large group-meetings as a treatment modality has exceeded the availability of staff trained in large group methods. The basic elements of an inservice training program are regular attendance by experienced senior staff who serve as role models, the serious and open use of review meetings following each large group meeting, and the establishment of group norms that facilitate functioning. A few crucial norms are identified and their importance is illustrated with examples from large group meetings.

This study investigates the application of predictor variables identified by nine previous studies and by staff members of a family court and its psy chiatric clinic to clinical predictions of dangerousness. The records of 122 juveniles evaluated by the clinic during a six-month period were studied for the presence or absence of the variables. No significant relationships were found in comparisons among predictor variables, clinic recommen dations to the court, and subsequent dangerous behaviors. The author dis cusses the difficulties inherent in field research of this type and the signif icance of the findings for clinical practice.

The purpose of the article is to determine personnel potential management methods of enterprise taking into account the retrospective nature of the potential (acquired characteristics), its current state and characteristics, future capabilities and capabilities that will be necessary for sustainable development of the enterprise, and the formation of author’s vision of personnel management system at the enterprise by stages and in the context of management functions. In the course of the study, it was founded that the personnel potential management of enterprise should begin at a stage before the establishment of official labor relations «employer-employee», because it is necessary to find and engage the future full-time worker of high qualification in the state of the enterprise, which refers to the personnel potential. The system of personnel potential management at enterprise is structured according to the management stage (before employment, employment, after employment). The change of the work itself, its transition from traditional to non-traditional ones, which is dominated by flexible structures, leads to the expansion of the concept «employee of the company» and management of combined labor force, when for the implementation of business tasks, the company involves not only staff members but also external sector experts, appears the so-called out-market of labor relative to a company that does not have the same external labor market to the fullest. The expanded vision of systematization of personnel potential management methods at the enterprise was presented on the basis on belonging to management functions, adding motivational methods, since motivation is the basic control function. In addition, the grouping of methods by the nature of changes in the management system, which involves the allocation of innovative methods, supplemented by traditional, because, over time, each innovative method spreads into traditional. Two classification points were also introduced, according to which it is advisable to group methods by facet: depending on the manifestations of the potential, out-management methods (target future and past potential) and in-management methods (aimed at the present potential) were introduced.

A juvenile parolee most often returns to the same environment that initially gave rise to his delinquent behavior. Efforts to modify this environment, particularly the family, are often futile. Therefore, an effort was made to modify the youth's perception of his environment through the manipulation of his peer group. The program of group counseling and the underlying assump tions are discussed, and certain of the techniques employed are described. Among these are role-playing, individual counseling, and actual instruction and practice in specific aspects of social interaction. This experiment suggests that parolees respond positively to this type of group counseling and that the use of the group facilitates the process of modifying the youths' attitudes and behavior.

A course in group process for master's level students in a Clinical/Community Psychology Program is described. When group methods courses are taught using the lecture/seminar method, they often fail to engage students on an emotional level. Alternatively, a totally experiential format (e.g., students as group therapy participants and the instructor as leader/therapist), fails to provide an adequate information base. This course offers students the opportunity to experience group process directly through developing, leading, and participating in structured group workshops in class.

The Industrial Neurosis Unit of Belmont Hospital has one hundred beds, two-thirds of which are occupied by males. The vast majority of the patients are chronic psycho-neurotics and psychopathic personalities, who show poor social adjustment. The material treated here is what is usually labelled as “hopeless.” Letters from Out-Patient Departments, seeking admission are prefaced, “We know this is a hopeless case …,” or “If you cannot help him then there is no hope for him …,” etc. During the four years of its existence the Industrial Unit has evolved and practised a variety of techniques of group psycho-therapy, in addition to the orthodox psychological and physical treatments available in modern psychiatric hospitals. More and more importance is being attached to the value of group methods here, to the extent that some doctors, after taking a brief history, thereafter employ group-therapy exclusively. This paper is an attempt to discuss the relative values and roles of therapy carried out at individual and group levels in the Industrial Unit.

Group counseling is not a new technique in working with juvenile probationers. To date, however, such programs have usually involved leadership by professionally trained groupwork ers, psychologists, and psychiatrists, and the costs of these perma nent services have been prohibitive for most juvenile courts. To face the challenge of improving services to probationers, using existing resources, the Franklin County (Columbus, Ohio) Juve nile Court developed a limited group counseling program. After one year of operation, an evaluation of data led to three major observations: (1) probation officers without professional training in groupwork can function effectively in a limited group counsel ing program; (2) a substantial number of juvenile probationers can benefit significantly from this group counseling; and (3) the effectiveness of probation officers in handling a heavy caseload, and the quality of probation services offered by them, can be much improved by use of group counseling as a supervisory technique.
