Based on ethnographic work with several women’s textile making collectives in Colombia, this article approaches their crafting practices as everyday doings of socio-ecological reparation, in the midst of social and environmental devastation caused by the armed conflict. Rather than focusing on the relevance of their activities for political activism and historical memory, an ecological perspective allows us to emphasise their work as a mundane, more than social process of communal regeneration. We discuss how women in these collectives, after painful and violent displacements, craft new ecologies of existence: relations and interdependencies within more than human worlds that cultivate new modes of care and attention, values and sensibilities in precarious living spaces. Ecological reparation is an everyday, vital, ongoing practice essential for community resurgence and for re-establishing collectivities that sustain liveable worlds.

The article discusses the problem of the identity of the population in the conflict zone in the Donbas. It is possible to speak about the existing civic identity if the person realizes his or her belonging to the state, whose citizen he or she is by status, all the attributes of statehood acquire valuable significance, and the “territory of life” shared with other fellow citizens is perceived as the Motherland. The authorities of the DPR and the LPR force citizens on their territory to abandon the identity of a citizen of Ukraine and to acquire the identity of their quasi-republics. For the success of the Ukrainian troops, it is important that the population of the territory where hostilities take place, identify themselves with Ukraine, consider themselves Ukrainians. This is the main task of identity politics. It is emphasized that in the conditions of a shortage of Ukrainian identity among the population in the area of hostilities, it is necessary to help stimulate the formation (strengthening) of such an identity. In identity politics identity management is important. In the conflict zone in the Donbas, civilian identities of the parties in hostile relations compete. It is argued that the desire to influence the identity of the residents of Donbass in order to form a certain identity among them is part of a hybrid war. If the residents in the combat zone have a shortage of Ukrainian identity, then it is necessary to promote the strengthening or formation of such an identity. Identity enforcement techniques can be propaganda, informational, economic, as well as violent, with the use of weapons. One of the methods of struggle for identity is the work of civil society structures, including volunteers. One of the means of implementation of identity politics is an appeal to historical memory. In the management of identity, discursive practices, events of a cultural, scientific, and sporting nature are important. Of great importance for determining identity is the line of demarcation, when the checkpoint divides the territory into “its” and “other”. The location of a person on the one or the other side of the roadblock improves the personality and relevant life practices. The conclusion is formulated that the success of the struggle for the identity of a Ukrainian citizen among the residents of Donbass will help resolve the armed conflict in the east of our country.

Abstract: Colombia has suffered an armed conflict for more than five decades with deep impacts on civilians, particularly the peasantry. Historically, the Sumapaz region has been one of the epicenters of this confrontation, with very particular features from 1990 to 2003, due to the expansion of armed actors. This paper analyzes how the confrontation took place in the southeastern corregimiento of Fusagasugá, from the perspective of the people who experienced it firsthand, in order to contribute to the historical memory of the peasant region of Sumapaz. This exercise allows to observe the divergent interpretations that exist about the same phenomenon of violence, which is useful facing the current period of post agreement, where it is necessary to know and make sense of the memories of those who suffered the greatest impacts of our war. Keywords: Armed conflict, FARC, memories, Sumapaz.

It is investigated how the Ukrainian folk-narrative tradition in various genre records of the beginning of the 21st century reflects and comprehends one of the numerous events of the Polish-Ukrainian armed conflict of the 1940s in the western Ukrainian lands - the destruction of the Polish colony Pyshivka by the Ukrainian armed underground in the spring of 1944. It is stated that the folk epic memory of Ukrainians reproduces the event of sixty years ago quite clearly, in various aspects and numerous details. It is noted that the narrative tradition of understanding the destruction of Pyshivka takes place in two planes - socio-political, military on the one hand, and Christian-moral humanistic - on the other. However, they do not always act in their pure separate essence: either one or the other. It is traced from the stories that in one narrator, they can be organically combined with a certain dominance of one or another component. It was stated that the narrators of the socio-political direction - primarily participants and eyewitnesses, reflected and comprehended the specific event of the destruction of Pyshivka in a broader aspect of the Polish-Ukrainian confrontation under the influence of information about the hostile intention of Poles against their village, as well as stories about previous similar Polish actions against Ukrainian villages. At the same time, there is a tendency that the farther the narrators are from the realities of the national liberation struggle, were not its eyewitnesses, and are not more deeply interested in it from printed or other sources, the more their understanding acquires a humanistic and moral content. They sincerely regret and mourn what happened, show a subconscious complex of guilt, and hence focus more on peaceful, friendly relations before the war, sympathetically speak of the high moral and spiritual qualities and higher economic success of the Polish colonists. Keywords: narrative tradition, Polish-Ukrainian armed conflict, historical memory, Pyshivka, Yavoriv region.

This paper intends to analyze events of the beginning of the Polish-Ukrainian War 1918–1919, which are controversial in Ukrainian and foreign historiography. The formation of the Ukrainian authorities in Przemysl, the activities of the county Ukrainian National Council (UNRada), and its measures to establish the coexistence of Ukrainian, Jewish, and Polish peoples are revealed. The loss of Ukrainian positions in Przemysl because of aggression by the numerical superiority of Polish forces is shown. These events played a significant role in the course of events in the future Polish-Ukrainian armed confrontation. The opposing forces had different approaches to an agreement during the unfolding of the armed conflict. The mention of the events of the November Uprising in the western outpost of Ukraine – Przemysl, will restore the historical memory of Ukrainians. It is very relevant during the current situation in the East of Ukraine. Keywords ZUNR, Przemysl, UNRada, armed confrontation, Polish aggression.

This chapter aims to reflect upon the construction of historical memory in Colombia from an institutional framework and in the midst of an armed conflict that does not cease. The objective is to discuss the difficulties that emerge in this type of research when conducted under the political, conceptual and methodological parameters of a public entity. Therefore, three contexts that influenced the development of the research are analysed (institutional, social-political and scientific) and then the limits and difficulties that these implicate are exposed. Finally, a series of recommendations are presented as well as the learned lessons that should represent a contribution for future work related with the reconstruction of historical memory in contexts of violence and armed conflict.

Although more than three decades have passed since Guatemala’s 36-year-long civil war, bereavement and posttraumatic stress continue to affect many survivors of that dark era, especially since it is only now that a few of the most infamous perpetrators of the violence have recently, if briefly, been brought to justice. The Maya were especially severely affected by the massacres and disappearances of the armed conflict. Because the ongoing relationship between the dead and the living that Maya value requires that the deceased receive proper burial, the exhumation and reburial of war dead have had cathartic effects for the survivors and have actively contributed to the construction of historical memory.
