The authors studied the state of the indicators of the immune system in the dynamics of their first year in medical school at the female students aged 15-17 years, recognized the results of medical examination of apparently healthy. In characterizing the state of cell-mediated immunity it was revealed reduction of immune-biological resistance in healthy students, manifested by the weakening of T-and B-immunity with severe tensions in the anti-viral defense, as evidenced by the significant increase in the peripheral blood cyto-toxic T lymphocytes [CD8 (+)] and NK-cells [CD16 (+)] and a decrease in the functional activity of neutrophilic granulocytes (NG). It is important that even after staying on vacation for the new academic year, these figures do not reach the initial level and remained statistically significant lower level, although there was some tendency to normalize. Thus, the authors assume that the identified changes may involve a violation of the processes of adaptation of students caused by the restructuring of dynamic stereotypes in the transition from school to the secondary vocational education with unusual difficulties on training exercise, which may be inadequate functionality of a growing and developing organism.

The purpose of this study is to investigate writing tendencies of secondary school students with regards to different variables. Descriptive survey model was used in the study to find out students’ general writing tendencies. Writing Tendency Inventory which was adapted into Turkish by İşeri and Ünal (2010) and which has 21 items, was used in this study. The sampling of this study consists of 1145 secondary school students in 2013-2014 academic year. T-test and one-way variance analysis were used in the analysis of the collected data in this study. The findings of this study reveal that there has been a significant difference in students’ writing tendencies depending on their classes, gender, their state of keeping or not keeping a diary, the number of the books that they read in the former year, the reading group that they feel they belong to and the state of their liking or not liking to read. As a conclusion of the study, it can be suggested that secondary students’ writing tendencies (with regards to reliance, passion and continuity sub-dimensions) are higher at first years compared to other classes (especially at the 5th year) and they have more tendency to write. Besides, female students were found to have higher writing tendencies, and it can also be suggested that writing tendency is closely related to the number of read books, the state of keeping or not keeping a diary or the state of liking or not liking to read.

Aim. The article aims to evaluate the functional status of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal systems in females with vascular dystonia from a special medical group. Materials and methods. The study involved first-year female students divided into 3 groups: 1 (control, n = 45) – apparently healthy students; 2 (experimental, n = 27) – students from a special medical group with vascular dystonia (VVD): 1st experimental (n = 12) – students diagnosed with VVD of the hypertensive type, 2nd experimental (n = 15) – students with VVD of the hypotonic type. The functional status of the hypothalamic-pituitaryadrenocortical and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal systems was revealed by the concentration of cortisol (K), testosterone (T) and estradiol (E) in saliva and the E / T ratio. Results. The content of cortisol in saliva in females with VVD in both experimental groups was significantly higher (P < 0.001, P < 0.05) than in the control group. Cortisol levels are higher in females with hypertensive VVD than in females with hypotonic VVD (P < 0.05). In females with VVD of the hypotonic type, the level of estradiol is higher by 24% than in the control group, and in females with VVD of the hypertensive type, estradiol is more than twice higher. The concentration of testosterone was significantly higher in both experimental groups compared to the control group (P < 0.001), an increase in T was observed in females with VVD of the hypertensive type. The E/T ratio in students with VVD in both groups showed no significant changes compared to the control group. Significant positive differences were revealed in females with VVD of the hypertensive type compared with VVD of the hypotonic type (P < 0.01). Conclusion. The results of the study showed that changes in hormone secretion can be considered as a chain of closely connected reactions in the regulatory mechanisms of the cardiovascular system for maintaining self-regulation of the body and ensuring adaptation under stress. Therefore, the disruption of any link requires the use of reserve capacities of the body, which affects the performance of the leading adaptation systems.

Background Students' perception of their educational environment has a significant impact on their behavior and academic progress. The recent worldwide usage of innovative problem-based learning (PBL) medical programs requires major changes in medical schools and their environments. Therefore, measuring students' perceptions of the complex PBL environment has become a critical necessity as a determinant of students' academic success and as a part of attaining the quality standards of education. Ours being a new medical college employing the PBL curriculum, it was important to measure the students' perception of the educational environment in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the curriculum and to plan for any future improvements. Aim and Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate students' perceptions in the preclinical phase of the PBL educational environment in the College of Medicine, Sharjah Medical College, United Arab Emirates, and to recommend remedial procedures. Material and Methods In this cross-sectional study, the English version of the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) inventory was submitted to 250 students in years 1, 2, and 3. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20 software, and significance was taken at P ≤ 0.05. The survey was performed in a mid-semester week, ie, in March 2014. No ethical issues were encountered during the process of this study. Results Two-hundred and fifty students responded to the questionnaire (100% response rate). The overall DREEM score was 113.4/200 (56.7%). First-year students expressed higher overall significant level of perception (119.4/200) than second-year (107.4/200) and third-year (112.7/200) students. In addition, first-year students perceived their learning, teaching, and academic climates as more significant than the other two batches. The scores obtained in the five domains were as follows; 28/48 in perception of learning, 26/44 in perception of teaching, 18/32 in academic self-perceptions, 27/48 in perceptions of atmosphere, and 15/28 in social self-perceptions. First-year students achieved the highest score (18.7/32) in the academic self-perception, and second-year students achieved the lowest (16.5/32). The total score was significantly higher in female students than in male students (115.9 vs 108.1). Conclusions The present study revealed that the PBL environment is generally perceived positively by our medical students. Female students exhibited higher perception than male students. Nevertheless, areas such as curriculum overload and inadequate student support still require further fine-tuning and remedial measures.

The aim of this research is to study the ball throwing velocity at different phases of teaching handball elements to female students in their first year of study at Faculty of Kinesiology, Zagreb. The set of variables contains three throwing velocity tests: 1. handball throwing velocity from the standing position (ST), 2. basic shot throwing velocity (RT) and 3. jump shot throwing velocity (JT). The speed of the ball was estimated by a radar gun (Stalker ATS) three times for each shooting type and it was expressed in km/h unit. Measuring was conducted twice in the course of the summer semester of the academic year 2017/2018. The first measuring was carried out after the first lesson and the second one a month later. The average throwing velocities recorded during the first measuring were: ST - 59.25 km/h, RT - 61.60 km/h and JT 61.62 km/h. On the following occasion, the average results were: 59.36 km/h (ST), 61.33 km/h (RT) and 61.33 km/h (JT). No statistically significant differences in the observed set of variables were found by using the t-test for the dependent samples on either occasion. The obtained results can be interpreted in regard to the methods of directing and evaluating the teaching process, as well as in regard to an effective program for improving explosive throwing power.
