PurposeSocial capital, understood as intangible community values available through a network of connections, is a factor in the development of societies and improving quality of life. It helps to remove economic inequalities and prevent poverty and social exclusion, stimulate social and regional development, civic attitudes and social engagement and build a civic society as well as local and regional identity. Many of these tasks may be implemented by libraries, which, apart from providing access to information, may also offer a number of services associated with social needs. The purpose of this paper is to present the roles and functions that libraries may serve in local communities in terms of assistance, integration and development based on classical social capital theories.Design/methodology/approachThe paper reviews the classical concepts of social capital in the context of libraries. It analyses the findings of Pierre-Félix Bourdieu, James Coleman, Francis Fukuyama, Robert Putnam, Nan Lin, Ronald Stuart Burt, Wayne Baker and Alejandro Portes. Based on their respective concepts, the paper analyses the role of the contemporary library in the social life of local communities. In particular, it focuses on the possible new functions that public libraries may serve.FindingsA critical review of the concept of social capital revealed certain dependencies between libraries and their neighbourhoods. With new services that respond to the actual social needs, libraries may serve as a keystone, namely they may integrate, animate and engage local communities. This, however, requires a certain approach to be adopted by the personnel and governing authorities as well as infrastructure and tangible resources.Originality/valueThe social engagement of libraries is usually described from the practical perspective (reports on the services provided) or in the context of research on the impact of respective projects on specific groups of users (research reports). A broader approach, based on original social theories, is rarely encountered. The paper draws on classical concepts of social capital and is a contribution to the discussion on possible uses of those concepts based on an analysis of the role of libraries in social life and in strengthening the social capital of local communities.

Based on historical and theoretical analysis of the development of social functioning of musical communication, as well as some problems of its management, the author attempts to theoretically justify the ways and means of optimizing music and communication processes that contribute to enhance the social and cultural role of musical art. The article describes fundamental concepts, which should be taken as the basis for the organization of musical life in modern society. The author puts forward such a conceptual theoretical statement as the principle of multi-factor audience differentiation. Consequently, the paper considers important facets of the theory of musical communication management in society, namely the target programming, scientific forecasting and long-term planning. The ways and methods of implementing these principles aimed at the achievement of a certain level of control over the music communication processes in society are also considered. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the impact of current social and economic changes in Russia on the formation of marketing and management in the social life of musical art.

The use of mobile devices and smartphones is increasingly becoming a critical part of many people’s lifestyle. Such usage can vary from playing games to accomplishing work-related tasks. Being able to use organizations’ persuasive technologies via mobile business services or to achieve work-related tasks ubiquitously at any time means that such devices provide a valuable service, especially for employees who are working online. This paper explores the impact of mBusiness on the social life of employees. In the research, structural equation modeling was applied to validate the research model. Employees in Saudi organizations were surveyed to test the research hypotheses. The research results confirmed that there are some negative effects of using mBusiness technologies on the social life of employees. Based on the analysis, the findings revealed that addiction to mBusiness technologies significantly increases the perceived work overload, which also significantly increases work-family conflict. The paper concludes with some implications of this research.

The Kite Runner is a novel by Khaled Hosseini and one of the literary works that presents the social life of Afghan people in each political era of Afghanistan. The aim of this paper is to discuss the impact of the Afghan conflict since the end of 1970’s until the 2000’s, the author describes the impact of the conflict of Afghanistan since the time of Daoud Khan’s coup, the Soviet Invasion, the Civil War Afghanistan, and the Taliban regime. This study used a mimetic approach that compares the actual occurrence with what is found in the novel. In analyzing this novel, the author uses sociological theory of literature by Alan Swingewood, first perspective regard literature as historical documentation and the time of the literary works made. Then the author uses qualitative methods, where the research described in a descriptive form of words or experts from novel and other sources related to the Afghan conflict. This paper focuses on the condition of Afghan society’s life during the Afghan conflicts and the impact of Afghan conflicts as reflected in the novel, The Kite Runner.

This research found that the Norma of Riba in Islamic Economics is a khilafiyah problem as well as the law of Bank Interest, in principle, mutual tolerance and mutual respect and respect for inter-opinions must be put forward. <p>The issue of comfort women that has occured since 1932 continues to impact bilateral relations between Japan dan South Korea. Various efforts have been made by two countries to deal with this issue, one of which is the agreement in 2015 that stating the comfort women issue has been completed and this agreement cannot be canceled. Instead of solving the problem, this agreement marked as the beginning of a worsening relation between the two countries. Poor relations led to several implications which then became a new problem to Japan and South Korea relations. This research finds that the comfort women issue has given three implications for the relations between Japan and South Korea. First is the Japan-South Korea Trade War in 2019, second is the withdrawal of South Korea from General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) and the last is the boycott of Japanese products conducted by South Korean society. The unresolved issue has affected the economy, national security and the social life of the people of both countries.</p><p><strong>BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK:</strong> Permasalahan <em>comfort women</em> yang terjadi sejak tahun 1932 terus memberikan implikasi yang kuat kepada hubungan bilateral antara Jepang dan Korea Selatan. Berbagai usaha telah dilakukan oleh kedua negara untuk menangani permasalahan ini, dimana salah satunya adalah perjanjian pada tahun 2015 yang menyatakan permasalahan comfort women telah selesai dan perjanjian ini tidak dapat dibatalkan. Bukannya menyelesaikan masalah, perjanjian ini menjadi awal dari hubungan kedua negara yang semakin memburuk. Hubungan yang buruk kemudian menimbulkan beberapa implikasi yang menjadi masalah baru di dalam hubungan Jepang dengan Korea Selatan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, ditemukan bahwa permasalahan comfort women memberikan tiga implikasi kepada hubungan Jepang dan Korea Selatan yaitu Perang Dagang Jepang-Korea Selatan 2019, penarikan Korea Selatan dari General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) dan pemboikotan produk Jepang yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat Korea Selatan. Permasalahan comfort women yang tidak kunjung terselesaikan telah mempengaruhi perekonomian, keamanan nasional, hingga kehidupan sosial masyarakat kedua negara.</p>

<p>Human life cannot be separated from a communication, because human is a social creature whose lives depend on one another and communication is an intermediary between humans with one another. Through communication the attitudes and feelings of a person or group of people can be understood by other parties. In proportion to communication and language, a culture called Mawewangsalan emerged, which of course contained both elements, namely the use of language in communication systems as outlined into an art, namely the art of spoken words. Mawewangsalan culture is found in Abang Batu Dinding Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency. Mawewangsalan related to the form and nature in communication community in Abang Batu Dinding are two sentences that experience reduplication (lengkara kalih palet). The first sentence is like an insinuation, about heart of someone who says it, but has a hidden meaning behind words that are said. The second sentence is the true meaning of intend words. based on its nature Mawewangsalan can be divided into three, namely are jokes, advice, and figures of speech.<br />The process of communication in Mawewangsalan conducted by the community in Abang Batu Dinding Village takes place in every situation and every place in the community's social environment. Mawewangsalan as a form of communication process in life of the community of Abang Batu Dinding Village has communication elements namely communicator, verbal code, and non-verbal code. In community of communication Mawewangsalan in Abang Batu Dinding Village has a cognitive impact, because in Mawewangsalan there are several things of educational values are contained. Affective effects also occur in this authority because it is able to influence attitudes and paradigm of people. As well as the impact of behavior is the next impact associated that changes in community behavior caused by the process of Mawewangsalan in the social life of the community.</p>

The article presents the results of an anthropological analysis of the social life of a modern family. It is immersed in deep socio-economic and demographic problems, which are complicated by the impact of globalization and information technology. Analyzing the transformational processes of family relations, the author comes to the conclusion that in the modern family there is “alienation” of generations, the gap between parents and children, which affects the traditional ethno-confessional foundations of the family. We are talking about the foundations of the national mentality of the peoples of the region about intergenerational relationships between children and their parents, the transformation from a macro-family to a nuclear one.

This article focuses on how Kurdish returnees experience the process of returning “home”, how they imagine and (re) negotiate their future, through the discussion of my documentary film, Haraka Baraka: Movement is a Blessing, which tells the story of my parents’ return to Iraqi Kurdistan after living in the Netherlands for more than 20 years.  While over the past decade, the Kurdistan Region has developed into a safe-haven situated within a conflict-laden area, the recent tension around the Islamic State’s (IS) expansion has changed the social and political landscape significantly in the Middle East, leading to new considerations for potential returnees. Based on the fieldwork I conducted through filming my own family during their return journey, I argue that using visual anthropological tools can open a window onto diasporic movements and illuminate social life in times of crisis by challenging the representation of Kurdish migrants and addressing the impact of uncertainty in their lives. Keywords: Kurdish diaspora; social navigation; visual Anthropology.Filmandina malbatê û behsa vegerê di çêkirina Haraka Baraka: Movement is a Blessing de Babeta vê nivîsarê Kurdên vegerayî û serhatiya wan di pêvajoya vegera bo ‘malê’ da ye.
