Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the impact of university tradition, justice perceptions and quality of leader-member exchange (LMX) on the faculty members’ tendency to engage in organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) from the perspective of social exchange theory (SET). Attention is drawn to the need to contextualize the established relationships between OCB and its antecedents, as direction and strength of relationships may vary in different contexts. Design/methodology/approach The study uses a sequential mixed method design comprising a survey of 203 faculty members, and 15 semi-structured interviews both undertaken in several universities in Turkey. Hierarchical regression and discriminant analyses were used for the quantitative phase, followed by the qualitative phase that includes compiled quotes and content analysis. Findings Analyses provide strong support for the impacts of university tradition and LMX on OCB. The compiled quotes largely support the quantitative findings. Additionally, content analysis reveals sources and consequences of injustice and mechanisms to cope with it among academics. Practical implications The findings have implications for university administrators who are looking for ways to increase OCB and enhance justice perception. LMX emerges as a significant factor in encouraging OCB regardless of university tradition. In order to enhance justice perceptions, Continental European-modeled universities should allocate workload and resources in a fair manner, while American-modeled universities should apply procedures consistently across people and time. Originality/value The inclusion of university tradition as an independent variable is a contribution as it contextualizes the relationship between OCB and its antecedents, verifying SET for both contexts. Using a mixed method design, the study provides an enriched understanding of OCB.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of firm ' s reputation and ethnocentrism on young consumer ' s attitude toward products with foreign origin. Design/methodology/approach – To attain the above objective “Mixed Method Approach” is employed. In the present study mixed method research is proposed by integrating qualitative and quantitative technique for data analysis for better breadth and depth of understanding. Findings – Reputation of the firm is found to have a significant impact on young consumers as it minimizes animosity and develops positive attitude toward products with foreign origin. Research limitations/implications – To collect data from the respondents vignettes/story boards were used which led to certain manipulation and hence it could be a limitation. Practical implications – The findings will be useful for the marketers to design their positioning strategies more specific to their target segments for better results. Originality/value – The present study made two significant academic contributions. First, the present study added to the literature of consumer behavior by studying young consumer ' s product preference using an integrated model that depicts variables relevant to the context of globalization, with better predictability. Second, by integrating qualitative research method and quantitative research method to develop better breadth and depth of understanding on customer ' s product preference, the study also contributed to the literature of advanced research methodology in consumer behavior.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to investigate the relationship between office redesign and employee productivity; and second to highlight the impact of privacy on work productivity across different generations. Design/methodology/approach This study examines open-office policy more comprehensively by integrating socio-behavioral and physical aspects of the office, and by using a mixed-method approach that incorporates most significant change, factor analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. Using a census method, the respondents were all consultants and trainers in an educational institution who were experiencing office design changes from a combi, cellular-like office to a more open, non-territorial office. Findings Three variables emerged as impacts of office redesign perceived by respondents: friendship, collaboration and privacy. Collaboration and privacy exert a positive influence on work productivity, while friendship does not. The relationship between privacy and work productivity is stronger for the Generation Y than for senior employees, namely, the Baby Boomers and Generation X. Research limitations/implications This study examines the impacts of office redesign in one organization. Future studies should advance the findings by empirically testing the theoretical model in broader contexts. Future studies could also enrich the literature by bringing cultural aspects into the discussion and comparing Asian-based and European or Western-based findings. Practical implications For Gen Y employees who prefer freedom, mobility and flexibility to personalization in their workplace, the open office could be a better solution for organizations that aim for both work productivity and efficiency. Originality/value This study provides an empirical value by using a mixed method of qualitative and quantitative research. This study further contrasts the different perspectives of an office redesign between younger and older generations.

Research in the field of Social Sciences is an interesting and complex academic study. Social Science research becomes more and more careful when researchers are not stuck with the only focus on the relationship between variables, but more than that is also deeply reviewed dimensions or indicators or items. For those researchers need a complex method that is a mixed method. One form of the Mixed method is called Neuroresearch. Basically, this Neuroresearch method uses content analysis method as qualitative research (exploratory), then deepens the result of content analysis with quantitative research method (explanatory and confirmatory research). Further explanatory and confirmatory research results are deepened through qualitative research in the form of implications of research results to create new policies, new strategies and new efforts through focus group discussion.

In Indonesia, many types of motorcycle are produced and marketed. Most of them are made by foreign manufacturers. The manual books which are printed in foreign languages such as English may cause some problems for the motorcycle owners and users in the country. One of the problems is the translation of the technical terms in the manual books. It is thus challenging to analyze the translation techniques applied in the translation of the automotive technical terms in Yamaha Nmax Owner’s Manual, and the impact of translation techniques on the accuracy, acceptability and readability. Yamaha Nmax is one of the motorcycles with high sales rate in the country. The methods of data collection consist of content analysis and in-depth interview with the raters and respondents. The results show that there are 8 techniques used to translate the technical terms and the use of the techniques result in a translation which is in general accurate, acceptable, and readable. The technique which produces translations with high level of accuracy, acceptability and readability is established equivalent. Meanwhile, generalization tends to produce translations with low level of accuracy, while borrowing produces translations with low level of acceptability and readability.

This study employs the news values theory and method in the examination of a large dataset of international news retrieved from Instagram. News values theory itself is subjected to critical examination, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. Using a mixed method that includes content analysis and topic modeling, the study investigates the major news topics most ‘liked’ by Instagram audiences and compares them with the topics most reported on by news organizations. The findings suggest that Instagram audiences prefer to consume general news, human-interest stories and other stories that are mainly positive in nature, unlike news on politics and other topics on which traditional news organizations tend to focus. Finally, the paper addresses the implications of the above findings.

The media was accorded the status of the fourth estate with the objective of making it autonomous of society players like the government and corporate entities. However, its funding questions the independence of these entities. Using an exploratory mixed method that combines semi-structured interviews with the content analysis of newspapers, this study investigated the impact of media funding on the independence of government and private print media outlets in Ghana, tagging advertising as a revenue-generating source to determine agenda-setting patterns. In Ghana’s media economy, government and corporate entities influence editorial autonomy and favour state-owned papers than private outlets.
