Objetives: this study aimed to fabricate electrospun-based polyetherimide (PEI) fibers, under controlled parameters, and to perform a diameter analysis for potential mechanical improvement of dental materials. Material and Methods: PEI pallets (0.75 g) were dissolved in 2 mL of chloroform and then processed by electrospinning, under a flow rate of 1mLh1 , three different electrical voltages (10kV, 15kV and 20kV) and three distances (10 cm, 15 cm and 18 cm) between the needle tip and collector. These parameter combinations resulted in nine experimental groups that were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image processing program for diameter measurement. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way ANOVA with post-hoc Tukey (5% significance). Results: from SEM images it was possible to observe formation of solid, misaligned and flawless defect-free fibers. And from the statistical analysis, distance (p = 0,0026) and the electric tension (p = 0,0012) showed a significant difference, but not for interaction between then (p = 0,4486). Conclusion: thus, it can be concluded that there is a possibility of the morphology control of PEI electrospun fibers, such as diameter, that can be used for a variety of applications such as incorporation in dental materials in order to improve its properties. Objective. To evaluate the color stability of a new organic rice husk nanocomposite as compared to four conventional composites after exposure to commonly consumed beverages in Malaysia. Methods. One hundred and twenty-five disk samples were prepared from a new rice husk-based composite and four other conventional methacrylate-based light-cured composites of shade A2. The samples were immersed in four commonly consumed beverages: coco-based drink, kopi, Chinese tea, and teh tarik for four weeks. The color measurements were carried out every week using the reflectance spectrophotometer according to the CIE L∗a∗b∗ color system. Color changes of samples (ΔE) in each week were calculated. Statistical analysis was carried out by performing a mixed ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test in order to analyse the differences in ΔE. Results. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference of ΔE reading (p<0.05) among all composites immersed in all four beverages after four weeks. Rice husk composites exhibited lesser color stability as compared to Ceram.X One Universal (p<0.001) and G-aenial Universal Flo (p<0.001) but showed higher color stability compared to Solare-X (p<0.001) and Neofil (p<0.001). Coffee and Chinese tea had the most significant impact on color changes (p<0.05) observed in all composites over four weeks of study. Conclusion. Rice husk composite showed acceptable color stability. It can be considered as an alternative to conventional composites due to its eco-friendly properties.

The purpose of this report is to comment the results from long-term growth hormone (GH) treatment of Bulgarian patients suffering from rare genetic disease-Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) with reference to the age, body composition, complications and genetic etiology. Statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA with post hoc Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's multiple comparison tests. In 90% of the patients maternal uniparental disomy (mUPD) was found to be the cause of the disease. No cases due to imprinting defects are found. The BMI data shows no statistically significant difference between BMI at diagnosis (21.850), at the beginning of the GH therapy (21.852) and current BMI (24.09) - measured under the GH background. Early GH treatment allows to overcome arising obstacles in time and to improve the quality of life for PWS children and their families. During the fourteen years study period only ten patients were diagnosed with the disease. Ninety percent (n=9) of the children were found to be with maternal UPD (mUPD) and only one case was due to deletion in 15q11-13. These results are in agreement with other studies in the field which shows the need for reassessment and new robust statistical analysis of the frequency of genetic mechanisms for PWS.

SUMMARY Clinical Relevance: Accurate reproduction of the jaw relationship is important in many fields of dentistry. Maximum intercuspation can be registered with digital buccal scan procedures implemented in the workflow of many intraoral scanning systems. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of buccal scan procedures with intraoral scanning devices for the registration of habitual intercuspation in vivo. The hypothesis was that there is no statistically significant difference for buccal scan procedures compared to registration methods with poured model casts. Methods and Materials: Ten individuals (full dentition, no dental rehabilitations) were subjects for five different habitual intercuspation registration methods: (CI) poured model casts, manual hand registration, buccal scan with inEOS X5; (BC) intraoral scan, buccal scan with CEREC Bluecam; (OC4.2) intraoral scan, buccal scan with CEREC Omnicam software version 4.2; (OC4.5β) intraoral scan, buccal scan with CEREC Omnicam version 4.5β; and (TR) intraoral scan, buccal scan with Trios 3. Buccal scan was repeated three times. Analysis of rotation (Rot) and translation (Trans) parameters was performed with difference analysis software (OraCheck). Statistical analysis was performed with one-way analysis of variance and the post hoc Scheffé test (p&lt;0.05). Results: Statistical analysis showed no significant (p&gt;0.05) differences in terms of translation between groups CI_Trans (98.74±112.01 μm), BC_Trans (84.12±64.95 μm), OC4.2_Trans (60.70±35.08 μm), OC4.5β_Trans (68.36±36.67 μm), and TR_Trans (66.60±64.39 μm). For rotation, there were no significant differences (p&gt;0.05) for groups CI_Rot (0.23±0.25°), BC_Rot (0.73±0.52°), OC4.2_Rot (0.45±0.31°), OC4.5β_Rot (0.50±0.36°), and TR_Rot (0.47±0.65°). Conclusions: Intraoral scanning devices allow the reproduction of the static relationship of the maxillary and mandibular teeth with the same accuracy as registration methods with poured model casts.

The aim of this study was to quantify the morphological variation of nectaries among 14 populations of Jovibarba heuffelii based on multivariate statistics, and to establish whether nectaries possess taxonomic significance for differentiating taxa within the J. heuffelii complex. To this end, we measured the width of the nectary, its height, the angle between the carpels and nectary, the shape of the nectary and the distance between nectaries were measured and analyzed. Descriptive statistics, the Tukey HSD (honest significant difference) of homogenous groups for the unequal N post-hoc test, canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) were used. Morphometric analysis showed that the quantitative and semiquantitative characteristics of nectaries in the J. heuffelii complex are highly morphologically variable, both within and between populations, and that they are unreliable as taxonomic characters for taxon differentiation within the J. heuffelii complex.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of pretreatment with commercial sodium hypochlorite, 5.25%, with a self-etch adhesive (Optibond Versa) in its original formula and with the incorporation of silver nanoparticles (NaAg) on fluorotic dentin. 240 human molars were classified according to fluorosis severity with Thylstrup-Fejerskov Index (TFI) and subdivided into three study subgroups according to the adhesive technique: (1) self-etch (SE) control subgroup; (2) NaOCl/SE subgroup; (3) NaOCl/SE + NaAg subgroup. The nanostructural characteristics were observed by AFM, μTBS was tested, and hybrid layer formation was observed by SEM. One-way analyses of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey-Kramer post hoc tests were used. No statistically significant differences were found in roughness values in any of the subgroups and subgroups studied. Remnants of smear layer were detected in areas devoid of resin tags in SEM images of samples bonded with subgroup 2, in contrast to subgroup 3. No statistically significant difference between any of the results was found in μTBS and a greater number of adhesive failures were observed. The results show that the pretreatment technique of 5.25% NaOCl and the incorporation of NaAg to the self-adhesive system do not produce a surface more adequate for a better adhesion.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this experimental study was to compare retention of frameworks cast from wax patterns fabricated by three different methods. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six implant analogs connected to one-piece abutments were divided randomly into three groups according to the wax pattern fabrication method (n = 12). Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) milling machine, three-dimensional printer, and conventional technique were used for fabrication of waxing patterns. All laboratory procedures were performed by an expert-reliable technician to eliminate intra-operator bias. The wax patterns were cast, finished, and seated on related abutment analogs. The number of adjustment times was recorded and analyzed by Kruskal–Wallis test. Frameworks were cemented on the corresponding analogs with zinc phosphate cement and tensile resistance test was used to measure retention value. Statistical Analysis Used: One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc Tukey tests were used for statistical analysis. Level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: The mean retentive values of 680.36 ± 21.93 N, 440.48 ± 85.98 N, and 407.23 ± 67.48 N were recorded for CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and conventional group, respectively. One-way ANOVA test revealed significant differences among the three groups (P < 0.001). The post hoc Tukey test showed significantly higher retention for CAD/CAM group (P < 0.001), while there was no significant difference between the two other groups (P = 0.54). CAD/CAM group required significantly more adjustments (P < 0.001). Conclusions: CAD/CAM-fabricated wax patterns showed significantly higher retention for implant-supported cement-retained frameworks; this could be a valuable help when there are limitations in the retention of single-unit implant restorations.

OBJECTIVE: Currently none of the irrigants used in endodontic therapy tested so far either alone or in combination could satisfy all criteria of ideal irrigant. Search for such a single agent which is more biocompatible along with other properties of irrigant continues. This study is aimed to evaluate pulp dissolution, antimicrobial activity, smear layer removing ability, and change in the Ca/P ratio of root dentin by using experimental formulation combining 3 % & 5 % Sodium hypochlorite with 40% Salvadora Persica & comparing it with 3 % Sodium Hypochlorite & 17%EDTA Materials and Methods: Pulp dissolution: Human pulp tissue weighing 0.9g was dissolved in each experimental group G1:3%NaOCl,G2:3%NaOCl+40% S.persica, G3: 5%NaOCl +40% S.persica and weighed after the passage time of 10 min , 20min , 30 min. The difference in weight of the tissue sample before and after exposure to the test solution was assessed. Antibacterial activity: Antimicrobial efficacy of 3% NaOCl, 3% NaOCl + 40% S.Persica,5%NaOCl + 40% S.persica as experimental group against E.fecalis was assessed using direct contact test. Statistical Analysis for both the test was carried out using Kruskal Wallis and Post Hoc Mann Whitney Analysis Smear layer removal& Ca/p ratio analysis: Single rooted premolars were divided in 3 groups (n=33) and irrigated with G1: 17% EDTA , 3% NaOCl, G2 : 3% NaOCl+ 40% S. persica, G3: 5% NaOCl + 40% S.persica. Each tooth was then split longitudinally. One half of sample from each group were subjected to scanning electron microscope to assess smear layer removal and second half for EDX analysis to check Ca/P ratio. Statistical Analysis: SEM – Kruskal Wallis and Post Hoc Mann Whitney EDX – ANOVA and Tukey’S HSD Post hoc Analysis RESULTS: • Pulp dissolution by freshly mixed G3 was superior to G1 & G2. There is no difference in pulp dissolution efficacy of G1 & G2. • No statistically significant difference was seen with respect to smear layer removal among the groups tested. EDX analysis showed significantly low Ca/P ratio for G1 compared to other groups and no statistically significant difference was seen b/w G2 &G3 • In both the time interval tested (5 min, 10min) G3 showed maximum antimicrobial efficacy followed by G1 and G2 in terms of mean value. CONCLUSION: The combined formulation of 5% NaOCl + 40 % S.Persica was most effective root canal irrigant among the groups tested in terms of pulp dissolution, antimicrobial &chelating action. 3% NaOCl + 40% Salvador persica was found to be as effective as 3% NaOCl and 17% EDTA. Experimental irrigants were found to be less erosive to root dentin in both combinations tested.

Background: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is one infectious disease of the middle ear, most commonly caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A high number of patients come to the ENT outpatient clinic with active benign type of CSOM. The bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa is capable of producing biofilm which protects itself from penetration of antibiotics, and therefore creates resistance towards antibiotics and difficult to eradicate. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the sensitivity levels of chloramphenicol, polymyxin-neomycin, cyprofloxacin and ofloxacine against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with active benign type CSOM in ENT clinic. Method: The method used was across sectional study on 25 patients, from August 2010 until December 2010. Samples were taken withear swab and then put on sensitivity test to chloramphenicol, polymyxin-neomycin, cyprofloxacin andofloxacine using the diffusion disc method. The analysis used in this study was Cochran test. Results: Results showed a significant difference in sensitivity among chloramphenicol (38,70%), polymyxinneomycin(83,87%),cyprofloxacin(90,32%)andofloxacin(58,06%)withp=0,000(p<0,05).PostHocanalysisusing the Mc Nemar indicated that there were significant differences in sensitivity betweenpolymyxin-neomycin to chloramphenicol with p=0,000 (p<0,05), ciprofloxacin to chloramphenicol andciprofloxacin to ofloxacine with p= 0,002, but there were no significant differences between cyprofloxacinto polymyxin-neomycin with p=0,687, polymyxin-neomycin to ofloxacin p=0.057 and ofloxacin tochloramphenicol p=0,109.   There were significant differences in antibiotic ear dropssensitivity to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with active benign type of CSOM. Cyprofloxacin andpolymyxin-neomycin were more sensitive than ofloxacin and chloramphenicol. Penyebab tersering OMSK adalah bakteri Pseudomonasaeruginosa. Pseudomonas aeruginosa mempunyai kemampuan untuk membentuk biofilm yangmelindunginya dari penetrasi antibiotik sehingga menimbulkan resistensi terhadap antibiotik dan sulituntuk eradikasinya. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui perbandingan tingkat sensitivitas kloramfenikol,polimiksin-neomisin, ciprofloksasin dan ofloksasin terhadap isolat Pseudomonas aeruginosa padapasien OMSK benigna aktif di klinik THT RSMS. Metode: Metode yang digunakan adalah crosssectional terhadap 29 pasien OMSK di klinik THT RSMS periode bulan Agustus 2010 - Desember2010. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan swab telinga. Uji sensitivitas terhadap kloramfenikol,polimiksin-neomisin, ciprofloksasin dan ofloksasin dilakukan dengan metode cakram secara difusi.Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Cochran dan analisis post hoc. Hasil: Didapatkansensitivitas kloramfenikol sebesar 38,70%, polimiksin-neomisin sebesar 83,87%, ciprofloksasin sebesar90,32% dan ofloksasin sebesar 58,06% dengan p=0,01 (P<0,05), yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaansensitivitas yang bermakna antara kloramfenikol, polimiksin-neomisin, ciprofloksasin dan ofloksasinterhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Analisis post hoc menggunakan Mc Nemar menunjukkan bahwaterdapat perbedaan sensitivitas yang bermakna antara tetes telinga polimiksin-neomisin terhadapkloramfenikol, dan ciprofloksasin terhadap kloramfenikol p=0,000 (p<0,05), serta terdapat perbedaanyang bermakna antara tetes telinga ciprofloksasin terhadap ofloksasin, p=0,002, tetapi tidak terdapatperbedaan yang bermakna antara ciprofloksasin terhadap polimiksin-neomisin, p=0,687, polimiksinneomisinterhadap ofloksasin p=0,057, dan kloramfenikol terhadap ofloksasin p=0,109. Kesimpulan:Terdapat perbedaan sensitivitas yang bermakna tetes telinga antibiotik terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa pada pasien OMSK benigna aktif. Ciprofloksasin dan polimiksin-neomisin tetes telinga mempunyai sensitivitas yang lebih baik dibanding ofloksasin dan kloramfenikol. The aim was to assess the influence of moderate cigarette-smoking on the clinical (bleeding on probing [BoP] and probing depth [PD]) and radiographic (crestal bone resorption [CBR]) around cement- and screw-retained dental implants at 5 years’ follow-up. A questionnaire was used to collect information about age, gender, smoking history, duration of implants in function, jaw location of the implant, and daily toothbrushing and flossing. Peri-implant BoP, PD and CBR were measured in all groups. Group comparisons were performed using one-way analysis of variance and for multiple comparisons, the Bonferroni Post hoc adjustment test was performed. Level of significance was set at P&lt;0.05. Forty-eight patients (25 smokers and 23 non-smokers) had cement-retained dental implants; and 48 (24 smokers and 24 non-smokers) had screw-retained dental implants. Among patients with cement and screw-retained dental implants, PD (P&lt;0.05) and CBR (P&lt;0.05) were significantly higher among smokers than non-smokers. The peri-implant sites that demonstrated BoP were statistically significantly higher among non-smokers (P&lt;0.05) than smokers among patients with cement- and screw-retained dental implants. There was no statistically significant difference in peri-implant PD and CBR among smokers with cement- and screw-retained dental implants. Among non-smokers with cement and screw-retained dental implants, there was no statistically significant difference in BoP, PD and CBR. Cigarette-smoking is associated with an increased PD and CBR around cement- and screw-retained dental implants. Cigarette-smoking increases peri-implant soft tissue inflammation as well as loss of crestal bone and this relationship is independent of the type of implant retention protocol used.The author recommends that cement- and screw-retained dental implants are suitable for prosthesis restoration in non-smokers. Further studies on dual-smokers (individuals smoking cigarettes and other forms of tobacco products) are needed related to the clinicoradiographic inflammatory parameters around cement- and screw-retained dental implants

Background: Clobazam (CLBZ) metabolized primarily by Cytochrome P-450 isoenzyme CYP3A4 than with CYP2C19, Whereas Levetiracetam (LEV) is metabolized by hydrolysis of the acetamide group. Few CYP enzymes are inhibited by Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) Pantoprazole, Esomeprazole, and Rabeprazole in different extents that could affect drug concentrations in blood. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of these PPIs on the plasma concentrations of LEV and CLBZ. Methods: Blood samples from 542 patients were included out of which 343 were male and 199 were female patients and were categorized as control and test. Plasma samples analyzed using an HPLC-UV method. Plasma concentrations were measured and compared to those treated and those not treated with PPIs. One way ANOVA and games Howell post hoc test used by SPSS 20 software. Results: CLBZ concentrations were significantly 10 folds higher in patients treated with Pantoprazole (P=0.000) and 07 folds higher in patients treated with Esmoprazole and Rabeprazole (P=0.00). Whereas plasma concentration of LEV control group has no statistical and significant difference when compared to pantoprazole (P=0.546) and with rabeprazole and esomeprazole was P=0.999. Conclusion: The effect of comedication with PPIs on the plasma concentration of clobazam is more pronounced for pantoprazole to a greater extent when compared to esomeprazole and rabeprazole. When pantoprazole is used in combination with clobazam, dose reduction of clobazam should be considered, or significance of PPIs is seen to avoid adverse effects.
