Culture specifics, i.e. the manifestation of culture in language, are unique and their translation is also quite complicated compared to other ordinary lexical items. The culture of the source language may not necessary have equivalence in the target language culture. However, it is believed that there are several alternative ways, or translation techniques, to solve the problem. The techniques such as choosing more common words, borrowing, translation by adaptation, or free translation by the culture of the target language (Indonesian), in addition to several other alternatives, can be used. The translation techniques for those culture specifics should be chosen on the basis of the text the translators are dealing with, and so they need to be careful in choosing the most appropriate one.

The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the translation strategies of metaphors are used in The Magic of Thinking Big and (2) to describe the translation strategies maintain metaphors in The Magic of Thinking Big. The research was conducted by using qualitative design. The data of this study were sentences. The data were collected through documentary technique and the instrument was the documentary sheet. The technique of data analysis was descriptive. The finding of this study revealed that: (1) The metaphor in The magic of Thinking Big were translated by applying six translation strategies, namely: word for word Translation (5.3%) lieral translation (4.3%), faithful translation (57.5%), Free translation (3.2%), communicative translation (30.5%) and discursive creation was found (2.2%). (2) The metaphors are maintained that found in the Magic of Thinking Big are original metaphors turned into another original metaphors, stock metaphors turned into another stock metaphors, adapted metaphors turned into adapted metaphors, dead metaphors turned into dead metaphors, original metaphor turned into stock metaphor, stock metaphor turned into original metaphor, meanwhile, 10 original metaphors and 1 dead metaphor are no longer classified as metaphors. The title of this research is “Method and Procedure of Translation used in Anime Quotes from Japanese to Indonesia at Official Account LINE Bahasa Jepang Bersama”. The purpose of the research is to identify the types of technique, procedure, and method of translation applied in translating anime quotes. Theories used in this research are the theory of translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002), the procedure of translation by Vinay and Darbelnet (1995), and the translation methods by Newmark (1988). The research data was analyzed by translational equivalence method and glossing. The result of the data analysis indicates that there are several translation techniques applied, they are literal translation, amplification, modulation, linguistic amplification, established equivalence, reduction, and transposition. The most found translation technique is literal translation because its aim is to produce a translation that stick to the originality of the language source text content and form. Then, there are procedures of translation applied, they are literal translation, transposition, and modulation. Thereafter for the method of translation applied they are literal translation, free translation, communicative translation, and idiomatic translation. The most found translation method is free translation because its aim is to produce a translation that fit to the need of target language readers. The translation methods applied tend to be oriented towards the target language.

This study discusses the translation of imperative sentences contained in a literary work in the form of a novel. In general, the use of imperative sentences is characterized by the meaning of orders and prohibitions. However, there are differences between the imperative sentences of one language and another. Methods of data analysis are using translational equivalent method and glossing technique. The data were analyzed in two stages. First, categorizing the translation techniques used based on the theory of translation techniques according to Molina and Albir (20002), and second, determining the translation method using the theory of the translation method according to Newmark (1988). Based on the analysis, there were eight types of translation techniques found, namely 1) adaptation techniques; 2) amplification techniques; 3) established equivalent techniques; 4) generalization techniques; 5) linguistic compression techniques; 6) literal translation techniques; 7) modulation techniques; and 8) reduction techniques. Furthermore, translation method classified based on the orientation of the source language and target language is found. The translation method which is oriented to the source language consists of two translation methods, namely the semantic translation method and the literal translation method. Meanwhile, the translation method which is oriented towards the target language consists of three translation methods, namely the free translation method, the idiomatic translation method, and the communicative translation method. The results of this study indicate the translation method that is most widely used in this research is free translation method so that the translation of the imperative sentences applied in translating the novel Girls in the Dark by Andry Setiawan tends to be oriented towards the target language.

Translation is one of communication, therefore, the translator must be able to find the equivalence between the text translated with the translation. A translator other than claimed to be able to solve problems in translation, is also required to theory, methods, techniques and translation strategies. Based on the observation, there are still many translations in the exercise instruction and vocabulary in the high school Mandarin / MA textbook published by Depdikbud which misrepresents the purpose of the source language (Mandarin) to the target language (Indonesian). Failure of translation will result in the textbook is not communicative because the meaning or message conveyed is not understood by teachers and students, so the textbook is less able to help and motivate teachers and students in the learning process. The results show that the method used by many translators is the method of free translation, the rest using the method of literal translation and word by word that causes the translation to be unequal and less acceptable.---Terjemahan merupakan salah satu bentuk komunikasi, oleh karena itu, penerjemah harus mampu mencari kesepadanan antara teks yang diterjemahkan dengan terjemahannya.

This study aims to find the translation techniques used by the translator in translating sentences of the bilingual destination map. The researchers used descriptive qualitative method to describe the translation techniques applied in the bilingual destination map “Peta Wisata Jawa Tengah” which is translated into “Central Java Tourist Map”. This study starts by finding the problem, collecting data, classifying data, analyzing data, and drawing the conclusion. The mostly used in translation techniques is literal translation technique to make the translation work clear for the tourists domestic even international. This technique is used when the target language (TL) is applied through the sentence without observing the differences of context or meaning in the source language (SL), whereas the discursive creation and description are rarely used.

The purpose of conducting this study is to identify and handle the problems arising from translating conversational words and phrases rooted in culture from English into Kurdish and vice versa. To achieve the objectives of the current research, source language conversational texts associated with greetings, politeness terms, kinship terms, address terms and words and phrases used on different occasions are translated into their counterparts in the target language. The results obtained from the translations show that translating cultural concepts is problematic and burdensome, and the problems identified result from cultural differences between the two languages and from literal translation which often leads to unnatural and incomprehensible expressions although this technique is used to borrow a source language expression. The results also indicate that translating culturally-bound conversational words and phrases requires good knowledge and mastery of both languages and cultures and proper use of various translation techniques. This research paper is an attempt to identify the problems that arise in translating culturally-specific conversational words and phrases from English into Kurdish and vice versa. It also aims to find out effective ways of overcoming the problem through implementing appropriate techniques for translating culturally-loaded words and phrases associated with greetings, terms of address, politeness terms, family relationship, in both languages.
