AbstractObjectiveTo adapt and test the relative validity of an instrument measuring the usual food intake of 6–10-year-old children.DesignAn FFQ encompassing the preceding 6 months was adapted and compared with the average of three 24 h dietary recalls.SettingPrivate and public schools in Porto Alegre, capital city of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil, with 1·5 million inhabitants.SubjectsChildren aged 6–10 years attending grades 1–4 in private and public schools in Porto Alegre.ResultsNinety-one children were studied. The FFQ overestimated all nutrients. Correlations with the values obtained by 24 h dietary recalls were mostly above 0·50. The deattenuated correlations increased for all nutrients. The κ coefficients for the adjusted nutrients varied from 0·12 (weak) to 0·34 (reasonable). Graphically, the FFQ was shown to underestimate some of the parameters and to overestimate others, with a wide CI for all nutrients.ConclusionsThe FFQ does not have the required relative validity to classify the intake levels of schoolchildren, and further investigation is required to understand the sources of error.

REFLECTIONS ON THE CHEMISTRY TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL: THE ELEMENTS OF ENADE 2011 Abstract: Many contemporary researches have pointed to the problems tied to Chemistry Teacher Training Programs, particularly those caused by the imbalance in the relationship between the theoretical and practical components in their curriculum framework. In this paper, we propose exploratory research on data from the National Survey of Student Performance 2011, focused on documentary analysis, which aimed to characterize the general profile of the Chemistry Teacher Training Programs in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Results showed that students are mostly from public schools, with family income up to 3 minimum wages. Analytic extracts also revealed that although most of the programs have obtained satisfactory scores in that exam, there was criticism directed by students to the lack of integration between disciplines presented in the curriculum frameworks and the weakness of professional preparation which arises from this feature. Abstract Faced with the refuted hypothesis of the reduction and the extinction of indigenous peoples in Brazil, new perspectives and demands have emerged. This research aimed to investigate the access of indigenous peoples to formal education, especially in relation to science education in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The indigenous schools of the Kaingáng and the Guarani ethnic groups were contextualized from the perspective of spatialization considering the Mesoregions, the municipalities, and the respective Regional Education Coordinators. The aspects investigated include number of enrollments (from 2011 to 2015), number of science teachers and their respective ethnicities, and the contribution of the school libraries. Thus, it is understood that there is a great reflection and consequent application of financial resources, aiming at the inclusion of indigenous peoples. However, demands have been identified, such as the adoption of principles of interculturality and bilingualism, the lack of adequate libraries and collections, the lack of science teachers, and the lack of indigenous teachers.
