This article aims to identify and analyze small-scale salt production business potential in Aceh as one of the areas of salt production support in Indonesia. It is important to discuss in order to be a good and strategic capital to develop and improve Aceh coastal community welfare, of which the poverty rate is the second highest in Indonesia. By applying observation method, comprehensive interview, and focus group discussion, it can be determined that Aceh factually has the potential of marine and fishery resources including small-scale salt production business sector that can be used as a means to overcome the poverty of coastal communities because this sector provides employment for 45.59% productive age population. With quite high production area and small-scale salt production business potential and the number of entrepreneurs of 1,135 people in several regions like Aceh Besar, Pidie, Aceh Utama, East Aceh, etc., it is very rational if the small-scale salt production business becomes one of the gateways to overcome the poverty of coastal communities in Aceh. The development that can be performed is changing the entrepreneurs’ mindset to be the entrepreneur that can develop group business or cooperative by the supports of coaching, advocacy, and technology facilities as well as business capital.

Coastal communities and small-scale fisheries are highly vulnerable to climate change. In this study, we aimed to examine fishers’ decisions to adapt to climate change and their expectations for their children to pursue the same profession. Data were obtained from fisher households covering 8 districts and 22 sub-districts in the coastal area of Chumphon Province, Thailand, using participatory observation, focus group discussion, and in-person field surveys. A binary logistic regression model was used to determine factors influencing the fishers’ decisions and their expectations for their children to inherit their occupation. Results showed that the fishers are aware of the increasing trends in air temperature, sea water temperature, inland precipitation, offshore precipitation, and storms. Increased fishing experience and fishing income increased the likelihood of the fishers applying adaptations to climate change. Looking to the future, fishers with high fishing incomes expect their children to pursue the occupation, whereas increased fishing experience, non-fishing incomes, and perceptions of storms likely discourage them from expecting their children to be fishers. Of the fishers interviewed, 58.06% decided to apply adaptations in response to climate change by incorporating climate-smart agriculture, particularly by cultivating rubber, oil palm, and orchards as a second income source. The adoption of climate-smart fisheries should be considered in relation to the body of local knowledge, as well as the needs and priorities of the fisher community. To cope with the impacts of current and future climate change on coastal communities, the national focal point of adaptation should be climate change, and related governmental agencies should pay more attention to these key factors for adaptation.

ABSTRACT
Climate change provokes various problems on coastal community’s life such as reduction in the quantity and quality of the catch, sea-water flood, storms, tidal waves, and drought. Many impacts of climate change will not lead to the vulnerability of coastal communities when a community has sufficient adaptive capacity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the adaptive capacity of coastal communities to food insecurity as the impacts of climate change. Mix method approach such as survey, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and observation was applied to collect the data. The unit analysis was community level (n = 100 poor fishery households, beneficiaries of government’s poor rice program). The adaptive capacity of communities to food insecurity is relatively low due to low institutional memory, unable to conduct innovative learning and especially the lack of connectedness with others outside the community. There is no Collective action to cope with food insecurity due to poverty, community’s culture and lack of local leadership.
Keywords: Climate change, adaptive capacity, coastal community, food insecurity

This paper analyses the way in which a particular newspaper report constructs ‘public opinion’ based on data from small-scale qualitative research. Using as a case study a report of a focus group discussion of Clinton's grand jury testimony, we show how these data are ‘worked up’ as representative, generalisable, and valid. By capitalising on the advantages of focus group data, while attending to and countering their disadvantages, the newspaper report is able to suggest that the views of ten people in San Francisco offer an authoritative indication of public opinion about Clinton across the USA. Finally, we sketch out some of the implications of this case study in relation to the construction of facticity more generally.

Harmful Algae Bloom (HABs) causes various impacts on sea life, especially the incidence of fauna death and indirectly affects the health of humans who consume seafood sources. This research is essential to do because coastal communities depend their lives on marine products and consume seafood sources. In general, Lampung coastal communities are aware of the existence of HABs, but not all understand why and how these events occur in-depth and the impact on human health. The research objective is to determine the level of public understanding of the dangers of HABs that have an impact on food sources. The data used in this study are survey data supported by focus group discussions. The results of the study showed that more than half of respondents had known information and hazards regarding HABs (57 per cent). Dissemination of information about the incidence and handling of HABs in Lampung is not very good. When there were HABs, only 54 per cent of the people were aware of fish deaths due to these events. The media which is expected to disseminate information on the HABs incident has not yet played a significant role, most of the people who know about the news of fish deaths have seen it firsthand. Very few people know about the news of fish deaths due to HABs through print and electronic media.

Adoption of solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems has been accelerating around the world, contributing to the debate about the future of policy and regulation in a high distributed energy resources future. As one of the leaders in solar investment in Southeast Asia, Thailand has recently shifted its policy framework for the support of small scale, distributed solar PV systems from subsidizing power export through feed-in tariff toward a policy that is focused on self-consumption. This paper investigates stakeholder perspectives of the detailed design options for self-consumption schemes for supporting rooftop solar PV installations. The research methodology employed questionnaires and focus group discussion in order to capture stake-holder perspectives for each element of rooftop solar PV self-consumption schemes. In all, the data derived from questionnaires and focus group discussion involved a total of 72 stakeholders. The results indicate that most stakeholder groups expressed a strong desire for compensation for excess generation of PV electricity from rooftop PV systems. While the majority of electric utilities prefer a system of net billing with real-time buyback, designed to minimize revenue losses, consumers and policymakers preferred a net-metering-based compensation scheme for supporting use of rooftop PV electricity in Thailand.
