Rewriting books was a widespread phenomenon during the Baroque period of the Czech literature. The manuscripts were not always „honest copies”, on the contrary, scribes often compiled several sources or added their own texts to the original. The famous book Golden Key of Heaven by Martin of Cochem is compared with a manuscript Key of Heaven from a Regional museum in the town of Náchod. We use two statistical methods, both of them strongly indicate that the manuscript is a copy of some chapters from the Golden Key of Heaven rather than a compilation.

The article attempts to present a set of spatial data in appropriate tables with the ways they might be used in both spatial and structural research as well as in functional one. Dynamic and structural research allows for investigating a constantly changing reality. Collected numerical information is often ineffectively used in the research in a more complex reality. Organising collected spatial data in such tables makes it possible to apply various kinds of quantitative methods for the analyses. The article also presents certain principles of variable selection allowing not only for correct application of specific statistical methods, but also for the achievement of reliable results. Uni- and multivariate structural tables, functional tables and relational ones (interactive) are presented in the article, indicating simultaneously operations that can be carried out on the data collected in these tables with specific methods of quantitative analysis.

This chapter describes the goals and general approach of this book. The general purposes of the chapters contained in Parts I and II are presented. A brief statement about how quantitative research can feel foreign to those coming from a classroom setting and suggestions for expanding one’s sense of identity is provided. A basic orientation to quantitative research design and analysis is provided. A brief commentary on data, variables, and quantitative analysis is provided as a prelude to the materials that follow in the rest of the book. Statistical methods are put forward as tools that can be used to discover patterns and trends within the complexities of music teaching and learning phenomena.

Alabastern, a multicultural rental housing area in the Växjö city of Sweden, was identified as poor at recycling household waste compared to other housing areas in the town. In this paper, a qualitative and quantitative analysis is conducted to understand the underlying causes of waste recycling behaviour of the tenants. Results showed that majority of the studied participants perceived themselves to be environmentally friendly. They reported that they recycled household waste quite often, but it was the other tenants who did not sort their waste properly. The respondents identified the causes of the improper waste recycling as lack of attitude and awareness, limitation of communication, sense of insecurity, lack of means to transport bulky waste, limitation of the recycling room, and inadequate action by the housing company Växjöbostäder.

Abstract Impoliteness is a common phenomenon across various democratically elected parliaments. However, in multilingual legislative bodies such as the European Parliament speakers have to rely on interpreters to transfer pragmatic meaning, including face-threatening acts and impoliteness. The existing research in the field of Interpreting Studies offers much evidence of the filtering effect that interpreting may have on impoliteness, through facework strategies introduced by interpreters. The main question here is whether female interpreters tend to mitigate grave, intentional impoliteness to a greater degree than male interpreters. My analysis of a large corpus composed of English-Polish interpretations of speeches by Eurosceptic MEPs shows that mitigation of impoliteness by interpreters is a widespread phenomenon. The illocutionary force of original statements is often modified by means of diverse interpreting strategies. However, the quantitative analysis of interpreter facework does not reveal a statistically significant gender-based difference in the distribution of approaches towards impoliteness.

The recent years in Poland have brought some particular interest in Czechs, who have been for many years indicated as the most liked nation in the studies conducted by the Centre for Public Opinion Research (CBOS). Due to its political and administrative determinants, borderland is a space of sociocultural diversification. The intensity of contacts is regulated by legal solutions of international character. Borderland residents have much more possibilities of getting acquainted with their neighbours, also owing to the opportunity of obtaining transfrontier projects. Exploring the Polish-Czech borderland in her studies for many years, the author notices that the tendency towards the interest in Czechs, present in other regions of Poland, is not as strong in the borderland itself. The easy access to information and to establishing formal and informal contacts does not result in stronger interest. In the article, the analyses are presented of the results obtained in the studies carried out among teachers from the Polish-Czech borderland in the county of Cieszyn. The results were subjected to quantitative analysis and the provided empirical data were processed with the use of statistical methods. The research focus was on the surveyed teachers’ activity in undertaking the participation in transfrontier projects and in seeking the knowledge concerning the neighbours. The author also wanted to find out how the teachers evaluated their own knowledge of Czech culture, art, tradition and cuisine.
