Abstract The current study uses an adapted version of Cameron and Quinn’s OCAI questionnaire to test the organisational culture of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Debrecen, Hungary, as it is perceived by its students, and also to discover what type of organisational culture the same students think would be ideal for them. An additional objective of this paper is to identify possible gaps between the perceived and the ideal cultures expressed by the students. Our sample includes 128 questionnaires completed by bachelor students from 6 different majors at the faculty. According to our results, the respondents perceive to a significant degree that the faculty’s organisational culture is at an average level of clan, market and hierarchy cultures, while it also exhibits a relatively low level of the adhocracy culture. Their ideal faculty culture would be one with average adhocracy, average hierarchy, high clan and low market features. Significant gaps are identified between the perceived and ideal cultures in all the four types: students would prefer an increase in clan and adhocracy cultures, and a decrease in the other two cultures.

This paper describes a study case of the Science and Technology Museum “Pedagogical Competence Programme” for students of the Department of Geology. It highlights an experimental approach of the museum for designing museum educational programmes with students. The museum succeeded from one side to develop a new program to offer to schools using participatory design and from the other to offer university students pedagogical experience through innovative, non-formal educational programmes, new ways to approach school students at all levels, cultivate their special skills, and enhance their knowledge, in order to familiarise them with the popularisation of science.

This study establishes strategies for the science and technology park (STP) operators to develop the support their hosted companies/startups (HCs) need to improve their performance at different stages of maturity. Unlike most of the research concentrated on the STP's viewpoints or used the after-the-fact results to create the policy guidelines for the operators, our paper uses the opposite approach by directly asking the HCs regarding what they need. From our survey results, we have identified two different strategies for improving HCs' performance. A comprehensive internal incubation network is necessary for any startup in a relatively mature development stage but with short settled years. On the other hand, a robust external incubation network is crucial for small-size startups in a low level of development stage but with long-settled years at STPs. We hope that the methodology underpinned in this study could open a new window for future research to better aid HCs in an STP.

There’s a new academic meta-field, centered on digital life, that doesn’t look anything like a traditional discipline. The field is more like an estuary, fed by a number of existing disciplines—library and information science, law, sociology, science and technology studies, and communication. It’s an interdisciplinary mashup of fields whose domains (“media”, “information,” “technology”) have merged. What makes the new, nameless formation interesting is its place in the university: the new field is seeded by institutes that—crucially—exist outside the established department system. It is a resolutely cross-disciplinary field, whose brick-and-mortar centers, like Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, are designed for idea exchange. The academics who populate the field, they reside in established departments and schools; it’s when they have thinking to share that they travel to Cambridge or to one of the other institutes.

As a response to the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) recommendation that the University of the Immaculate Conception conduct a program evaluation to assess the relevance and effectiveness of its Computer Engineering (CpE) curriculum, this study was ventured into to draw out the significant insights of faculty, alumni industry practitioners, and upper-class students regarding their expectations of the said curriculum, to level up its content and instruction for competitiveness and efficacy. Employing a focus group discussion (FGD) involving 3 faculty members, 3 alumni industry practitioners, and 6 upperclass students from the CpE program, queries bordering on the relevance and responsiveness of the curriculum, expectations of the industry from CpE graduates, as well as the level of competence of these graduates, were addressed by the researchers. Findings revealed that majority of participants believed that a relevant curriculum is one that is responsive to the needs of the present times. Alumni industry practitioners pointed out the significant gap between theory and practice--- a missing link between vision and reality. This result implies strongly that the framework upon which the program was founded does not assure competence in application. On the other hand, the peripheral views of the students highlighted the inadequacies of instruction eclipsing the ideal nature of subject sequencing and evolution.

Condition monitoring of machines (systems) is the science and technology for the assessment of condition of running machine by means of observation of machine phenomenal field, where some symptom of condition can be captured and measured (see for example [Collacott 77]). This means that we are trying to determine the fault space of the machine, its dimensionality and fault advancement, by some observed symptoms of condition, creating in this way our observation space. The fault space of a system (machine) can be assumed by some prior knowledge taken from the experience with the other running machines, and the same concerns with symptom observation space with some redundancy.

The present study traces the dynamics of personal characteristics in youth and the manifested neurotic symptoms in the training process. These facts are the reason for the low levels of school results in the context of the existing theoretical statements of the problem and the empirical research conducted among the trained teenagers. We suggest that the indicators of neurotic symptomatology in youth – aggression, anxiety, and neuroticism, are the most demonstrated, compared to the other studied indicators of neurotic symptomatology. Studies have proved that there is a difference in the act of neurotic symptoms when tested in different situations, both in terms of expression and content. At the beginning of the school year, neurotic symptoms, more demonstrated in some aspects of aggressiveness, while at the end of school year, psychotism is more demonstrated. The presented summarized results indicate that at the beginning of the school year, neurotic symptoms are strongly associated with aggression. There is a tendency towards a lower level of social responsiveness, both in the self-assessment of real behavior and in the ideal “I”-image of students in the last year of their studies. The neurotic symptomatology, more demonstrated due to specific conditions in the life of young people and in relation to the characteristics of age.

The relationship between Islam and state raises a controversy that includes two main groups;formalists and substantialists. Both of them intend to achieve a good social condition which is inaccordance with Islamic politics. The ideal form of good society to be achieved is principallydescribed in the main source of Islamic law, Al Qur’an and As Sunnah, as follows. A form of goodsociety should supprot equality and justice, egalitarianism, and democracy in its social community. The next problem is what the needed methods and instruments to achieve the ideal Islamic politicsare. In this case, the debate on the formalization and substance of Islamic teaching is related to therunning formal political institution. Each group claims itself to be the most representative to the ideal Islam that often leads to anescalating conflict. On the other hand thr arguments of both groups does not reach the wholeMuslims. As a result, the discourse of Islam and state seems to be elitist and political. As a result,Both groups suspect each other each other and try to utilize the controversy on the relationshipbetween Islam and state to get their own benefit which has no relation with the actualization ofIslamic teaching.

Skills and competencies are highly regarded in todays global market. Different agencies specifically those seeking for technologists, technicians, and engineers, have stressed out that skills and competencies as major components for individual workers. This aimed to determine the relevance and appropriateness of acquired skills and competencies by industrial technology graduates, and determine the extent of use of skills and competencies in the current employment. Review of related literatures and studies have been considered in the realization, understanding, analysis, and interpretation of this research exploration. A descriptive method of research was used with 78 graduates from 2015-2016 and 117 graduates from 2016-2017, who participated in the study survey process. The BatStateU Standardized Questionnaire was used to gather data. A brief interview and talk during the visit of alumni in the university was also considered, as well as the other means of social media like email, facebook, messenger, and text messaging. Results show that skills and competecnices acquired by industrial technology graduates are all relevant and appropriate. The study also found that there is some to great extent use of acquired skills and competencies to their current employment. The study implies that the acquired skills and competencies from the university significantly provided the graduates the opportunities ins the national and global markets and industries.

The non-protein nitrogenous constituents of muscle of migrating sockeye salmon were investigated. These constituents were found to be the same in both male and female fish and were present in approximately the same amounts in both sexes. The histidine content of the muscle in all fish decreased to one fifth of the original value during the early stages of the migratory journey and remained at the low level thereafter. Some of the other constituents changed to a smaller extent, usually increasing in the later stages of the migration. This was especially noticeable in female fish. However, the increase in the concentration of these constituents in the muscle was due to a decrease in the amount of muscle in the fish rather than to an increase in the amounts of the compounds themselves.
