Background: To determine the effects of an educational playful intervention on nasal hygiene behaviors among preschool (3-4 years old) children. Methods: A quasi-experimental before-after study was conducted with 39 children attending public daycare center in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A group-based intervention consisted of two educational sessions to promote healthy behaviors for nasal hygiene. It was adopted playful strategies such as a story told by puppets, card games and simulation of nasal hygiene in front of the mirror. The outcome was evaluated by observing six healthy behaviors for nasal hygiene one week before and after the intervention. Differences in the outcome before and after the intervention were tested using Wilcoxon signed rank test and McNemar’s test. Results: The median of healthy nasal hygiene behaviors went from 3.0 to 4.0 after the intervention, with a significant statistical difference (P=0.0004) and a difference of behaviors. After the intervention, forcing the air out of one opened nostril increased from 5.1%to 30.8% (P=0.001, CI 95%: 0-0.440), forcing the air out of the other nostril increased from 5.1% to 28.2% (P=0.003/CI 95%: 0-0.50), throwing the piece of toilet paper in the garbage increased from 53.8% to 87.21% (P=0.04, CI 95%: 0.035-0.65), and sanitizing the hands with soap and water increased from 15.4% to 43.6% (P=0.039-0.76). Conclusion: the educational playful intervention improved the autonomy of preschoolers to adopt healthy nasal hygiene behaviors.

<p>This research aims to determine the effects of brainstorming on students’ engagement in learning about probability. The method used in this research is the quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group. The sampling technique is in the form of a census. The data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed by using non-parametric tests -- the Mann-Whitney U-test and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test with alpha level of 0.05. The results show that: 1) there was no significant difference on students’ engagement before and after the experiment in the group that was taught without brainstorming; 2) there was significant difference on students’ engagement before and after the experiment in the group taught with brainstorming; and 3) there was no significant difference on students’ engagement between the group that was taught with brainstorming and the group that was taught without brainstorming. The result of this research indicates that implementing brainstorming produces a positive effect on students’ engagement in learning about probability in math classes in grade XI IPA at SMA ABC Cikarang.</p><p><em><span class="showMoreLessContentElement" style="display: inline;">BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK</span>: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaruh penerapan brainstorming terhadap keterlibatan siswa dalam mempelajari topik peluang.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi-eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent control group. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuisioner dan dianalisis dengan uji non-parametrik, yaitu uji Mann-Whitney U dan uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank dengan taraf signifikansi 0.05.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam keterlibatan siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan di grup yang diajar tanpa brainstorming (hasil uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank: ); 2) ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada keterlibatan siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan di grup yang diajar dengan brainstorming (hasil uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank: ); dan 3) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada keterlibatan siswa antara grup yang diajar dengan brainstorming dan tanpa brainstorming (hasil uji Mann-Whitney U: ). Hasil dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa penerapan brainstorming memberikan pengaruh yang positif terhadap keterlibatan siswa dalam mempelajari peluang di pelajaran matematika kelas XI IPA SMA ABC Cikarang.</em></p>

This research aims to study the effect of inquiry learning by critical thinking practice followed by a conceptual change efforts to reduce misconceptions on acid-base learn. The research design using one-group pretest-posttest design with students of SMAN 2 Ngawi as sample research. The student conception  status finding by knowing concept (TK), not knowing concept (TTK), and misconception (MK), whereas intensity of misconception be analized by CRI. Results and analysis of research data found that there is a shift in conception after inquiry learning p rocess. Based on Wilcoxon’s signed rank test, the T value of test TK, TTK, and MK is less than T table at α = 0.05 , so it was concluded that inquiry learning increase TK and decrease TTK and MK. The influence of inquiry learning for understanding the influence was strengthened by the results of the t test tests before and after understanding the concept of inquiry learning that indicate a significant difference.  t-test results on tests of critical thinking before and after the inquiry learning also showed a significant difference. Inquiry learning can not reduce all of misconceptions. Reduction step again is with conceptual change. Based on Wilcoxon’s signed rank test was concluded that conceptual change learning can reduce misconception significantlyPenelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh pembelajaran inkuiri terbuka disertai latihan berpikir kritis yang dilanjutkan dengan conceptual change sebagai upaya mereduksi miskonsepsi pada materi asam basa. Penelitian eksperimen semu ini menggunakan metode one group pretest-postest design dengan subyek penelitian  siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 2 Ngawi. Profil konsepsi siswa dinyatakan dengan status tahu konsep (TK), tidak tahu konsep (TTK), dan miskonsepsi (MK), sedangkan intensitas miskonsepsi diperoleh dari hasil analisis CRI jawaban siswa.  Hasil dan analisis hasil tes pemahaman konsep menemukan bahwa terjadi pergeseran konsepsi setelah proses pembelajaran inkuiri terbuka. Berdasarkan wilcoxon’s signed rank test diperoleh T hitung untuk semua status TK, TTK, dan MK kurang dari nilai T tabel pada α = 0,05 dan n = 25, sehingga   disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran inkuiri meningkatkan jumlah TK dan menurunkan TTK dan MK.  Pengaruh pembelajaran inkuiri terhadap pemahaman konsep serta kemampuan berpikir kritis diketahui dari uji t hasil tes pemahaman konsep serta tes berpikir kritis sebelum dan setelah pembelajaran. Hasil uji t pada α = 0,05 menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan pemahaman konsep serta kemampuan berpikir kritis antara sebelum dan setelah pembelajaran inkuiri. Miskonsepsi yang masih tersisa setelah pembelajaran inkuiri direduksi kembali dengan strategi   conceptual change. Berdasarkan wilcoxon’s signed rangk test disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran conceptual change dapat mereduksi miskonsepsi secara signifikan.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan argumentasi maha­siswa sesudah mengikuti perkuliahan yang menerapkan model berpikir induktif dengan metode probing-prompting learning pada materi subgrup. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian adalah 38 mahasiswa angkatan 2016/2017 Prodi Pendidikan Matematika UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Instrumen yang digu­nakan adalah lembar tes kemampuan argumentasi. Kemampuan argumentasi mahasiswa diiden­tifikasi berdasarkan komponen argumentasi McNeill dan Krajcik yang terdiri dari claim, evidence, reasoning, dan rebuttal. Peningkatan kemampuan argumentasi mahasiswa dianalisis dengan statistik non parametrik menggunakan uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank pada taraf signifikan 5% (α = 0,05). Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan argumentasi mahasiswa setelah perlakuan lebih baik dibandingkan sebelum perlakuan dan terdapat perbedaan signi­fikan (Z = -7,397, p = 0,000) kemampuan argumentasi mahasiswa sebelum dan setelah diterap­kan model berpikir induktif dengan metode probing-prompting learning pada materi subgrup. This type of research was quasi-experimental with a quantitative approach. The study sample was 38 students of Mathematics Education Department of State Islamic University Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. The instrument used was the argumentation ability test sheet. The student's argumentation ability was identified based on McNeill and Krajcik's argumentation component consisting of claims, evidence, reasoning, and rebuttal. Improved student argumentation skills were analyzed by non-parametric statistics using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results of data analysis showed that the students’ argumen­tation ability after treatment was better than before treatment and there was a significant difference (Z = -7,397, p = 0,000) the ability of students' argumentation before and after the inductive thinking model with the probing-prompting learning method was applied in the subgroup material. Thus, the implementation of inductive thinking models with probing-prompting learning methods in subgroup material was effective for improving students' argu­men­tation abilities.

AbstrakUpaya meningkatkan cakupan pemberian ASI eksklusif sudah banyak dilakukan, diantaranya dalam bentuk promosi kesehatan. Namun demikian hingga saat ini kegiatan tersebut belum menunjukkan hasil yang optimal terutama dalam hal penggunaan media. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh media promosi kesehatan terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan menggunakan media leaflet dan media film. Ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi-experimental) dengan rancangan pretest-posttest group design. Dilaksanakan di wilayah kerja puskesmas Lubuk Begalung Padang tahun 2014. Subjek penelitian adalah ibu hamil sebanyak 42 orang yang dipilih dengan cara simple random sampling. Subjek dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, kelompok pertama menggunakan media leaflet dan kelompok kedua dengan media film. Data dianalisis dengan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test untuk mengetahui perbedaan pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah promosi kesehatan dan uji Mann-Whitney membandingkan kedua media promosi kesehatan. Rata-rata pengetahuan responden sebelum diberikan promosi kesehatan dengan media leaflet 8,71 dan setelahnya 11,52. Pada media film sebelum diberikan promosi kesehatan 7,90 dan setelahnya 13,19. Selisih nilai pengetahuan responden dengan media leaflet 2,81 dan media film 5,29. Ada peningkatan pengetahuan ibu sebelum dan sesudah diberi promosi kesehatan dengan media leaflet dan media film. Media film lebih efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan dibanding dengan media leaflet.Kata kunci: ASI eksklusif, leaflet, filmAbstractVarious attempts have been taken to improve the granting of exclusive breastfeeding, one of them is health promotion. Nonetheless, the health promotion has not shown the optimal result especially on the use of media. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of health promotion regarding exclusive breastfeeding on the knowledge improvement of pregnant mothers either by using leaflet or film media. This was a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest group design. This study was conducted in the area of Lubuk Begalung health center Padang in 2014. The subjects were 42 pregnant women, choosen by using simple random sampling. The subject were divided into two categories. The first category was given a health promotion by using leaflet as the media and the second category was given by using film as the media. The data analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to compare the knowledge of respondent before and after being given promotion and Mann-Whitney test to compare both of media. The average of respondent knowledge before being given health promotion by using leaflet was 8.71 and after being given health promotion was 11.52. In media film, the average of knowledge before was 7.90 and after was 13.19. The deviation of knowledge value of leaflet was 2.81 and film was 5.29. There is a significant knowledge improvement before and after being given the health promotion either by leaflet or film. Film is more effective in improving the knowledge of pregnant mothers compare than leaflet.Keywords:Exclusive Breastfeeding, leaflet, film

Endometriosis is a gynaecological disorder that is often characterised by dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia and or infertility. These symptoms are very common and often found as a symptom of other diseases so that endometriosis is more difficult to diagnose or often diagnosed late. Therefore, diseases like this would be better if we prevent them before they suffer. Although endometriosis is caused by multifactor, we can still do simple prevention and be positive. However, several other factors cause this prevention not to be applied in daily life such as lack of knowledge, inadequate facilities or an environment that does not support. Therefore, health promotion as a medium of information and the establishment of community self-reliance is expected to shift bad habits or form new good habits to be more vigilant and prevent endometriosis. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with the pretest-posttest method and was processed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Based on the results of data analysis, there is a significant increase in the behaviour of female students before and after health promotion.

This study aims to describe SEFT and treatment in the treatment of anxiety. This study used rapport cases on three clients. The research instrument used is rapport Client Case, observation and depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. The data obtained were analyzed by T-Test Statistic Nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The findings from the study showed that before treatment, the level of anxiety at very heavy levels and after the treatment became mild and normal. Based on T-test results found that there is a significant difference in anxiety level of clients before and after treatment. This means SEFT is effective for reducing client anxiety.

The working practice of the engineering students is part of the learning process that is irreducible and indispensable. The composition of  lecturing between theoretical and practical one is 40% to 60%. With this condition, the students spend more time at the laboratory. Generally, the students perform in the laboratory work by standing position. The design of research is observational cross-sectional. The method applied is observation, interview and measuring. The subjects of research are practicing students amounting to 21 students. Referring to the analysis of statistical test or Wilcoxon signed ranks test, the difference of effect of work position is significant, namely p < 0.05 towards musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) before and after working. The quantity of the average complaint after working is score 44.62 ± 9.47. The result of Wilcoxon signed rank test shows that there is significant different effects of standing work position, namely p < 0.05 towards fatigue generally before and after working. The degree of the working pulse is on the average of 110.78  ± 17.80 bpm (beats per minutes) which can be categorized into the medium workload. Using paired t-test, the result is p < 0.05.

A research has been done to compare the differences on the enzyme creatine phosphokinase (CPK) level and muscle soreness before and after 4-weeks swim practices on swimmers of College swimming club. Eighteen healthy male swimmers (mean ± SD; age: 19,94 ± 1,86 years; weight: 65,28 ± 6,14 kg; height: 1,72 ± 0,43 m) participated in this study. All subjects performed their 4-weeks swim practices which consist of 2x120 hours per week with 500 meters average daily swim distance and weight training. Blood was collected before and after the practices and CPK were analyzed. Questionnaires concerning muscle soreness were filled put before each blood draw. Results were analyzed using normality test and Wilcoxon signed rank test (p<0.05). There was significant increase in CPK level during 4-weeks swim practices by 59.41% (p=0.044). Whereas for muscle soreness (overall and specifically in arms and thighs), there was no significant differences between before and after the 4-weeks swim practices. As a conclusion, participation in 4-weeks swim practices resulted in significant serum CPK enzyme elevation, but there was lack of significance in muscle soreness differences on swimmers of College swimming club.

Background: Infant tongue-tie can cause breastfeeding problems, which may be improved by frenotomy. However, controversy exists among the medical community. Research aim: To examine the influence of frenotomy on infants with posterior ankyloglossia, by quantifying the changes in breastfeeding and maternal nipple pain using standardized tools. Methods: Newborns ( N = 30) below 12 weeks of age were recruited from the Herzl–Goldfarb Breastfeeding Clinic between April 2014 and April 2015. Diagnosis of posterior ankyloglossia was made clinically. Frenotomy was performed. Mothers received breastfeeding counseling before and after the procedure. Pain and breastfeeding were assessed before the procedure, immediately after the procedure, and after 2 days, 7 days and 14 days. Breastfeeding was assessed using the LATCH Tool and by subjective questioning. Maternal nipple pain was assessed using the Numeric Rating System. Results: No complications were reported with frenotomy. There was a significant improvement in LATCH score immediately post-frenotomy, with an increase in median scores from 7.5 to 8.5 ( p < .0001, Wilcoxon signed rank test). There was a significant decrease in median pain score immediately post-frenotomy, from 3.0 on the left nipple and 3.25 on the right nipple, to 0 bilaterally ( p < .0001, Wilcoxon signed rank test). Subjective improvement in breastfeeding was reported by 90% of mothers immediately after frenotomy and 83% of mothers at Day 14. Conclusion: Frenotomy for posterior ankyloglossia may improve breastfeeding and nipple pain.

The aim of this study is to investigate 8 weeks Thera-Band trainings' effects on male swimmers' 100 m freestyle swimming performance.The study group is created by 20 (n = 20) licenced male athletes that had trained at least 3 days in a week and have been active in swimming sport at least 3 years in Gebze Genclerbirligi Swimming Club 20 (n = 20). Athletes were divided into experiment group (n = 10) and control group (n = 10) randomly. Training programme was applied to the study group for 55-60 minutes for 3 days on alternate days and times when the club does not have swimming training. 12 different Thera-Band trainings were applied for 40-45 mins and each set was 15 minutes.Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze differences between groups and Wilcoxon signed rank test was applied for analyzing the differences of intra-groups. SPSS 21.0 Statistics package software was used for statistical analyzes. The results show that there are no significantly differences between experimental group's and control group's post test results. (p>0.05). Statistically significant differences are found as a result of intra-group comparison of the experimental group's pre-test and post-test results (p<0.05).Depending on the results obtained after reviewing the literature, it can be concluded that Thera-Band training is effective on the performance improvement of swimmers aged 13-15 years.
