The aim of the work, carried out within the framework of research on currently occurring rather than predicted climate changes, was to confirm or deny the hypothesis of increasing incidence of droughts in central Poland (the Bydgoszcz region) over the years 1986-2015. According to projections of climate change, the variability and extremity of weather conditions are expected to increase. In studies conducted under some climate scenarios, it was shown that atmospheric precipitation variability in central Poland will increase even to 20%, depending on the scenario. Some researches indicate that these changes are already taking place. The material was the data of precipitation measurements gained from weather station, located in a poorly urbanized area, at the Research Center of the University of Science and Technology. Totals of atmospheric precipitation in the 30-year period were analyzed (1986-2015). Dry periods in individual months, seasons, half-years and entire years were identified on the basis of the relative precipitation index (RPI). The precipitation totals in the years 1986-2015 were characterized by a very high temporal variability and thus increased the climatic risk of plants cultivation. The significant positive trend of precipitation totals was found only for the cold half-year, which is consistent with the projections of the IPCC report. The frequency of the occurrence dry months was 38.6%, of seasons 38.3%, half-years 35.0% and years 30.0%. There was noted no increasing frequency of dry periods with years; just to the contrary, a decreasing tendency was identified.

In recent years an increasing emphasis has been placed on the study of high temperature intermetallic compounds for possible aerospace applications. One group of interest is the B2 aiuminides. This group of intermetaliics has a very high melting temperature, good high temperature, and excellent specific strength. These qualities make it a candidate for applications such as turbine engines. The B2 aiuminides exist over a wide range of compositions and also have a large solubility for third element substitutional additions, which may allow alloying additions to overcome their major drawback, their brittle nature.One B2 aluminide currently being studied is cobalt aluminide. Optical microscopy of CoAl alloys produced at the University of Missouri-Rolla showed a dramatic decrease in the grain size which affects the yield strength and flow stress of long range ordered alloys, and a change in the grain shape with the addition of 0.5 % boron.


This paper deals with chemical analyses for hydrogen, sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, sulphate and nitrate ions in daily precipitation samples collected in the English Lake District, and examines the correlations of these analyses with ( a ) one another, ( b ) the amount of precipitation, ( c ) wind direction, ( d ) wind velocity, and ( e ) temperature. Highly significant correlations are found between estimates for H, K, Ca, NO 3 and SO 4 ions, and atmospheric pollution appears to supply much of the sulphate in Lake District rain, since it comes largely as sulphuric acid from the south-east. The correlation between Na and Cl is also extremely close, with the proportion between the two ions very similar to that in sea water. Since these two ions are supplied mainly from the south-west, in amounts which are greatly increased by high winds, sea spray may be inferred as the principal source. Nevertheless, evidence is presented for some small supply from atmospheric pollution, and it is furthermore suggested that mixed droplets of sea salt and sulphuric acid may, upon abstraction of moisture by freezing or evaporation, release gaseous hydrogen chloride to the air and so alter the balance of Na and Cl in precipitation. The supply of Na and Cl is also considerably higher in cold than in warm weather, a phenomenon possibly connected with stormier conditions and greater evaporation over the Atlantic Ocean. The atmospheric contribution of ions to natural waters via precipitation is shown to be of great importance, in particular to bog pools, to upland tarns on hard rocks, and to the soil solution in highly organic mor humus layers overlying heavily leached hillside soils. Sodium and chloride in most surface waters appears to be almost wholly supplied by sea spray, while calcium and magnesium bicarbonates are the main products of soil weathering. A net loss of rain acids is evident in all soil waters, although some may be more acid than normal rain water owing to considerable concentration by evaporation. The soil waters are relatively rich in potassium, presumably supplied from decaying vegetation.

The present study was undertaken to estimate the costs and returns structure of maize cultivation and identifying the prominent production constraints in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. A sample of 60 farmers was randomly drawn from six villages of Mawthadraishan and Nongstoin block of the selected district. The costs and returns per hectare were calculated on the basis of cost concepts and Garett ranking method was used for employed for determination of constraints in maize production. The overall cost of cultivation was found to be ` 37185.22 per ha and the major cost components were manures (48.25%) and human labour (34.73%). The overall net return was evaluated at ` 19038.20 with small, medium and large farmers having similar returns with the exception of marginal farmers gaining a net return of only ` 13889.83 which was 27.04 per cent lower than the average return among the sample farmers. It may be attributed to their heavy dependence on labour and lack of investment on irrigation, plant protection and better-quality seeds. The realised average yield was found to be 23.65 q/ha which was abysmally low compared to other maize producing states of India. A positive trend between the return over cost ratio and the operational holding was observed with an average of 1.51. The prominent constraints as perceived by the farmers were unfavorable weather conditions, the incidence of pests and diseases and costly fertilizers and manures with the Garrett’s score of 64.70, 62.75 and 54.40 respectively

A broad research of the impact of PTSD diagnosis and presenting symptoms of this disorder on social reactions to persons with PTSD has been undertaken to test the prediction that the relative absence of fairly recognizable symptoms of this disorder promotes less positive social evaluation. This paper presents the effects of manipulating with the PTSD label and the recognizability of presented symptom pattern on ratings of the target person responsibility and elicited affective reactions and support giving intention in subjects.Three vignettes, differing in recognizability of presented symptoms of PTSD, were given to the subjects (228 students at the University of Mostar), and about a half of the subjects in each of these symptom pattern conditions was told that the target is a PTSD casualty. Subjects responded to the vignettes by rating target’s responsibility and their own reactions to him (pity, anger and willingness to give him support) on a five-point scale.The results showed significant effect of the symptom pattern manipulation, which was most pervasive in responsibility judgments and reported support intentions. The pattern of differences in judgments of responsibility suggests that the prevalence of less recognizable symptoms of PTSD might result in ascription of some responsibility to a target person for causing actual conditions. The relative absence of these symptoms appears to reduce, in particular, the variability in the subject's willingness to give support to the person, which is generally reported as being very high. Unlike these responsibility and support ratings, the effects of the symptom pattern on reported affective experiences of pity and anger do not match the pattern predicted from the attribution model of B. Weiner and an extension of this model made by Lopez and Wolkenstein. The absence of the predicted Label x Symptom pattern interaction was explained in terms of some drawbacks in the construction of the stimulus material.

The paper analyzes spatiotemporal features the indices of hot, cold and precipitation that are related to weather conditions. The temperature in Ukraine tends to be higher, which is the main regional feature of global climate changes. The North Atlantic Oscillation had an influence on the precipitation in Ukraine – weather is rainier during its negative phases. Also, colder night and hotter days were more frequent during negative phases of the NAO. This fact can be explained by enhancing meridional flows in Ukraine. The wavelet analysis also revealed an impact of the NAO on temperature anomalies – positive phases determined increasing monthly minimum temperatures before the 1980s and decreasing ones after 1980s. Also, the wavelet analysis showed that the Nor-th Atlantic Oscillation influenced the precipitation in northern and southern parts of Ukraine in different ways.

Исследования интродуцированного японского сорта винограда Кёхо выполнены в нестабильных погодных условиях умеренно континентального климата юга России, в Черноморской зоне виноградарства Краснодарского края в условиях температурного и водного стрессов 2018 года. В период активной вегетации (май - август) сумма активных температур воздуха была на 197 °С больше среднемноголетней нормы, количество атмосферных осадков было меньше нормы в 3,7 раза и составило 47 мм. В аномальных погодных условиях интродуцированный сорт винограда Кёхо показал высокую адаптивность к нестабильным погодным условиям в форме активного роста и прохождения фенологических циклов. При остром дефиците атмосферных осадков и повышенной инсоляции продолжительность вегетации винограда Кёхо от распускания почек до полной физиологической зрелости ягод была равна 119 дней, на 5 дней меньше, чем у контрольного сорта Бригантина и на 3 дня меньше, чем в среднем по большой группе столовых сортов разного эколого-географического происхождения, расположенных рядом на Анапской ампелографической коллекции. Начало фазы распускания почек, роста побегов и соцветий наблюдалось 15 апреля, у контрольного сорта на 4 дня раньше, у сортов ампелографической коллекции на 6 дней позже. Продолжительность этой фазы вегетации у изучаемого сорта составила 54 дня, больше на 11 дней чем у контрольного сорта и на 9 дней чем у столовых сортов ампелоколлекции. Цветение у сорта Кёхо начиналось 7 июня, на 15 дней позже чем у контрольного сорта Бригантина и на 3 дня чем у группы столовых сортов на ампелоколлекции. Продолжительность периода от начала цветения до начала созревания ягод у сорта Кёхо в экологических условиях 2018 года составила 50 дней, что на 4 дня короче, чем у контрольного сорта и на 3 дня короче, чем у сортов на ампелоколлекции. Интенсивность роста ягод была более высокой по сравнению с контролем и группой столовых сортов в ампелоколлекции. Полная физиологическая зрелость ягод у изучаемого сорта наступила 11 августа, практически одновременно с контролем - 12 августа.The study of introduced Japanese grapevine cultivar ‘Kёho’ was carried out in unstable weather conditions of moderately continental climate of the South of Russia, in the Black Sea viticultural zone of the Krasnodar Krai under temperature and water stress of 2018. During the active vegetation season (May - August), the accumulated effective temperatures made 197 ° С above the long-time average annual, the amount of precipitation was 3.7 times less than normal, and amounted to 47 mm. Under the effect of abnormal weather conditions, the introduced grapevine cultivar ‘Kёho’ demonstrated high adaptability to erratic weather conditions during the active growth phase and passage of phenological cycles. Under acute atmospheric precipitation deficit and increased insolation, the duration of ‘Kёho’ grapevine vegetation from bud break to full physiological berry ripeness made 119 days, which is 5 days less as compared to control cultivar ‘Brigantina’ and 3 days less than the average for a large group of table cultivars of various ecological and geographical origin, located in the nearby Anapa ampelographic collection. The start of the bud break, shoot and inflorescence growth phase was observed on April 15; it happened 4 days earlier for the control cultivar, and 6 days later for the cultivars in the ampelographic collection. The duration of this vegetation phase for the studied cultivar was 54 days, which by 11 days exceeded that of the control cultivar and by 9 days that of the table cultivars in the ampelographic collection. The bloom of ‘Kёho’ began on June 7 - 15 days later than that of the control cultivar ‘Brigantina’ and 3 days later as compared to the group of table cultivars in the ampelographic collection. Duration of the early bloom to veraison period of ‘Kёho’ grapes in the ecological conditions of 2018 made 50 days, which was 4 days shorter than that of the control cultivar and 3 days shorter as compared to the cultivars in the ampelographic collection. The berry growth was more intensive as compared to the control and the group of table cultivars in the ampelographic collection. Berries of the studied cultivar reached full physiological ripeness on August 11, almost simultaneously with the control - on August 12.

The paper presents the results of research to assess the efficiency of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivation in adaptive crop rotations on typical chernozem. The crop yield have analyzed for three different crop rotations (grain-fallow, grain-grass-row, and grain-grass) in comparison with a monoculture on a stationary multifactorial field experiment on physical modeling of the farming system of the FSBSI “Kursk FARC” (Kursk region, Medvensky district). It was determined that the maximum yield was obtained in grain-and-row crop rotation; on average, over three years of research, the increase in it was 1.71 t/ha. Statistical data processing has carried out and correlations between the weather conditions of the year and the yield of winter wheat has revealed. Thus, a moderate direct relationship (r = 0.65) was established with atmospheric precipitation, and a moderate inverse relationship with the sum of effective temperatures (r = 0.58). Indicators of economic efficiency of winter wheat cultivation have calculated, both for monoculture and for three types of crop rotations. The lowest cost of winter wheat grain – 5926.94 t/ha – was recorded in grain-fallow crop rotation, which provided the highest net income of 12056.26 and the highest profitability among all options – 68.72%.

El estudio de los perfiles motivacionales proporciona información detallada sobre los hábitos de los grupos de personas hacia la práctica de la actividad física, permitiendo poder fomentar una motivación más positiva y conseguir una mayor adherencia a la práctica. Así el objetivo de este estudio ha sido clarificar cuáles son las motivaciones frente a la práctica de actividad físico-deportiva de una muestra de jóvenes universitarios, incidiendo especialmente en las actividades náuticas. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 1011 estudiantes de la Universidad de Almería (España). El instrumento utilizado fue el cuestionario de hábitos físicos-deportivos y de práctica de deportes náuticos. Los resultados obtenidos apuntan que los principales motivos para desarrollar la práctica deportiva fueron la flexibilidad horaria y una adecuada a la disponibilidad de su tiempo libre, seguido de la cercanía a su domicilio de las instalaciones. Otros motivos son por diversión, o estar con su grupo de amigos. Respecto a las actividades náuticas, se decide practicar o no sólo porque les gustan, seguido del interés por estar en contacto con el medio natural y acuático. Las modalidades náuticas más practicadas son el piragüismo y la natación. En relación al abandono de la práctica deportiva, claramente se produce por la falta de tiempo por el estudio o el trabajo. Es evidente que la falta de tiempo por los estudios o por el trabajo, perjudica gravemente la adherencia a la actividad física, pero existen porcentajes muy altos de personas (62%) que admiten no practicar por pereza y desgana, por lo que se deben buscar nuevas estrategias de motivación para que aumente la adherencia a la actividad físico deportiva.Palabras clave: Motivación, práctica de actividad física y deportiva, actividades náuticas, hábitos físicos y deportivos, universitarios. The nautical activitiesABSTRACTThe study of motivational profiles provides detailed information on the habits of groups of people to the practice of physical activity, allowing fostering a more positive motivation and achieving greater adherence to practice. So the aim of this study was to clarify the motivations are against the practice of physical and sporting a sample of university students, with special emphasis on water sports activity. The sample consisted of 1011 students from the University of Almeria (Spain). The instrument used was the questionnaire physical - sporting habits and water sports. The results indicate that the main reasons for developing sport and flexible hours were adequate to the availability of leisure, followed by proximity to your home facilities. Strawberries are one of the most important food crops grown in Florida, with a harvested area of ≈10,000 acres. The University of Florida strawberry breeding program develops cultivars adapted to this region and its particular weather conditions, with a major aim of increasing overall quality. The objective of this study was to compare the fruit of advanced breeding selections to those of commercial cultivars, for compositional attributes. Seven different strawberry genotypes were compared at harvest and after 7 days at 4 °C across multiple harvest dates during two consecutive years. Compositional attributes were highly influenced by year, harvest date within a year, genotype, and storage. Overall, compared with other genotypes, selection FL 09-127 exhibited consistently higher soluble solids and total sugar (TS) contents at harvest and after cold storage. Higher ascorbic acid (AA) and phenolic contents at harvest were observed in selection FL 07-193. However, its anthocyanin content was among the lowest. In contrast, FL 10-47 exhibited relatively low AA content at harvest but consistently high total anthocyanins (TACs) and total phenolic (TP) contents after storage. Overall, results from this study provide valuable information to the breeding process by identifying new genotypes with improved compositional attributes combined with suitable quality characteristics after cold storage.

Abstract Background The northern spotted owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) is an Endangered Species Act-listed subspecies that requires forests with old-growth characteristics for nesting. With climate change, large, severe wildfires are expected to be more common and an increasing threat to spotted owl persistence. Understanding fire severity patterns related to nesting forest can be valuable for forest management that supports conservation and recovery, especially if nesting forest functions as fire refugia (i.e., lower fire severity than surrounding landscape). We examined the relationship between fire severity and nesting forests in 472 large wildfires (> 200 ha) that occurred rangewide during 1987–2017. We mapped fire severities (unburned-low, moderate, high) within each fire using relative difference normalized burn ratios and quantified differences in severity between pre-fire nesting forest (edge and interior) and non-nesting forest. We also quantified these relationships within areas of three fire regimes (low severity, very frequent; mixed severity, frequent; high severity, infrequent). Results Averaged over all fires, the interior nesting forest burned at lower severity than edge or non-nesting forest. These relationships were consistent within the low severity, very frequent and mixed severity, frequent fire regime areas. All forest types burned at similar severity within the high severity, infrequent fire regime. During two of the most active wildfire years that also had the largest wildfires occurring in rare and extreme weather conditions, we found a bimodal distribution of fire severity in all forest types. In those years, a higher amount—and proportion—of all forest types burned at high severity. Over the duration of the study, we found a strong positive trend in the proportion of wildfires that burned at high severity in the non-nesting forests, but not in the two nesting forest types. Conclusions Under most wildfire conditions, the microclimate of interior patches of nesting forests likely mitigated fire severity and thus functioned as fire refugia. With changing climates, the future of interior forest as fire refugia is unknown, but trends suggest these older forests can dampen the effect of increased wildfire activity and thus an important component of landscape plans focused on fire resiliency.
