Abstract Improving the technological properties of a ceramic product without affecting its aesthetic quality is a daily challenge of the regional ceramic companies. To achieve this objective, analyzes were performed on an illitic-kaolinitic clay by adding corundum as an additive. The corundum content varied from 5% to 20% by weight with a particle size of less than 75 μm, being able to obtain products with low porosities and high mechanical resistance. This research is part of a series of studies carried out on an argillaceous raw material from the region of Norte de Santander (Colombia). The influence of the corundum content on the technological properties was evaluated. The results showed that corundum, when mixed with traditional raw materials, offers the conditions to be used as an additive in the production of ceramic products with increases of up to 67% in mechanical strength and a reduction of porosity of 46%, which can contribute to the development of value-added ceramic products for use in other technological applications.

The purpose of this article is to study border trade in the regions of Russia and the provinces of China. It is shown that in recent years there have been negative trends in border trade, leading to its reduction. Therefore, Russian regions bordering with China should transform into separate objects of regional policy, while also forming a legislative framework for border interaction in all its main spheres: trade, humanitarian cooperation, science and education, and others. In border cooperation with China, special emphasis should be placed on cooperation in the innovation sphere, as well as on improving the quality of exported goods and services and promoting infrastructure projects. Border trade between the regions of Russia and China is built mainly on trade and export of labour resources from China to Russia, as well as China’s receipt of additional sales channels for the confidently growing sales markets for consumer goods and sources of raw materials and primary products. The interaction of Russian regions with neighbouring provinces on the border with China not only preserves the raw material orientation of these regions, but also hinders the development and strengthening of the manufacturing industry in the structure of their regional economies, since border interaction for Russian regions immobilizes those stages of value-added production observed in the very first stages. In general, for the Chinese provinces there is a similar problem associated with such exports to border regions that have common borders with Russia, which does not contribute to the diversification and structural development of the regional economies of the Chinese provinces. That is why building an effective mechanism for border interaction between Russia and China is a strategically important issue for both countries.

An actual problem of the alcohol industry development is the expansion of the raw material base through the use of new, cheaper types of carbohydrate sources. Recently, glucose-fructose syrup has been of increasing interest to producers of ethanol. Among the producers of craft drinks, in particular rum-based drinks, cane molasses is in increasing demand. The article presents the technological aspects of the fermentation process of nonconventional sugar-containing raw materials on the example of glucose-fructose syrup and cane molasses in ethanol by different yeast strains. It is determined that glucose-fructose syrup and cane molasses are raw materials depleted of nitrogen, phosphorus and growth substances necessary for the yeast activity. To improve the technological properties of raw materials in the molasses, nitrogen, phosphorus nutrition and corn extract as a growth substance shall be added to a mash. Glucose-fructose syrup is of pH 3.68 and of acidity 0.12, which negatively affects the fermentation. It is established that in order to create optimal living conditions for yeast, it is necessary to add substances to the glucose-fructose syrup that will contribute to the safety of development and prevent the pH 3.5. It was determined that the alcohol yield from 1 ton of glucose-fructose syrup is 31.0 dal, from 1 ton of cane molasses is 24.0 dal on the yeast 46ED and 22 dal on the TegaYeast without the use of growth substances and vitamins necessary for the reproduction of yeast biomass. Under conditions of improving the technological properties of the mash from the glucose-fructose syrup and cane molasses by adding biologically active substances promoting the synthesis of yeast biomass, the ethanol content in the fermented mashes increases up to 11.9 12% vol.

This study developed a technology of low-lactose semi-finished products, based on fermented whey and pumpkin pulp puree, and offered a possibility of its use in the technology of structured culinary products. This research carried out the required substantiation of the methods of preliminary processing of raw materials, and studied the technological properties and structure of model compositions with their use. During the experiment, a number of studies were carried out, which substantiated the method and modes of condensation of whey, and provided a comparative analysis of the homogeneity of lactose-free and lactose-containing samples of whey under various modes of condensation. The study obtained the results of calculations of the equivalent diameter of the studied samples of lactose-containing and low-lactose whey, condensed by the contact method and in vacuum. It was found, that the structure is homogeneous at a number average crystal diameter of up to 5 μm. The restriction is valid for CLLWV with a calculated diameter of about 3.84 μm with a coefficient of variation of 1.35 % with an increase of 10,000 times. The study revealed the alternation of smooth and granular sections of the micron level (0.1 ... 5 μm) in the structure of the studied low-lactose semi-finished product with an increase of 300 times. It was determined, that the extremum of the differential curve of the particle size distribution of CLLWV corresponds to the number average crystal diameter of 3.84 μm. It was established, that the most homogeneous fractional composition is inherent in the studied sample of CLLWV, for which the values of fraction diameters are in the range from 1.46 μm to 4.96 μm. The optimal ratio of the components of the model CLLWV: FPPP system was determined as 70 % to 30 % respectively. With this composition, the model system is characterized by the formation of protein-pectin complexes, which is confirmed by microscopy with a magnification of 90 times

In the processing of any particulate system (including refractory castables), the finer sized particle fraction (matrix or filler) is mostly responsible for the final system properties. Alumina fine powders were used in this work as raw materials, namely two tabular alumina fractions (–500 mesh and –230 mesh) and a commercial reactive alumina. Statistical modelling and the Response Surface Methodology (Statistica, Mixtures Designs and Triangular Surfaces module) were used to optimise the particle size composition of the three-component mixtures leading to matrix maximum flowability. The mixing methodology, aimed at minimising the water content, was kept constant. No-cement alumina castables produced with the various fine size powder mixtures, were used to prepare test-pieces. After drying and sintering, their mechanical resistance (MoR), density, porosity, water absorption, thermal shock behaviour and microstructure were evaluated. The results obtained evidenced the relevance of variables such as the water content per unit specific surface area, needed to reach the self-flow “turning point”, and validated the statistical optimisation method used. Moreover those results showed the existence of a matrix composition range, which favours the formation of a flow-bed that enables the aggregate self-flow.

Archaeological ceramics refers to products made primarily of clay and containing variable amounts of lithic and other materials as well. The term ceramic is derived from the Greek keramos, which has been translated as "earthenware" or "burned stuff." Ceramics include products that have been fired, primarily pottery but also brick, tile, glass, plaster, and cement as well. Since pottery is by far the most important archaeologically, and the methods of sampling and study are largely applicable to the others, this chapter is devoted primarily to pottery. Pottery then is the general term used here for artifacts made entirely or largely of clay and hardened by heat. Today, a distinction is sometimes made between pottery, applied to lower-quality ceramic wares, and the higher-grade product porcelain. No such distinction will be made here, so the term pottery alone will be used. Raw material that goes into the making of a pot includes primarily clay, but also varying amounts of temper, which is added to make the material more manageable and to help preserve the worked shape of the pot during firing. Of primary interest in ceramic studies are 1. the nature and the source of the raw materials—clays, temper, and slip (applied surface pigment)—and a reconstruction of the working methods of ancient potters; 2. the physical properties of the raw materials, from their preparation as a clay-temper body through their transformations during manufacture into a final ceramic product; 3. the nature of the chemical and mineral reactions that take place during firing as a clue to the technology available to the potter; and 4. the uses, provenance, and trade of the wares produced. Much of the information needed to answer these questions is available through standard geochemical and petrographic analysis of ceramic artifacts. Insight into the working methods of ancient potters also has been obtained through ethnographic studies of cultures where, because of isolation or conservative traditions or both, ancient methods have been preserved.

Introduction. Common sorrel (Rumex acetosa L.) is a biennial herb from the Buckwheat family (Polygonaceae L.). In our previously studies of phenolic compounds composition of alcohol extraction and ethereal, ethyl acetate, butanol fractions of common sorrel herba and flavonoids of the flavonol group was found. From the literature sources it is known that flavonoids are one of the groups of biologically active compounds with anti-inflammatory action. In this regard, the actual task is to assess the quantitative content of flavonoids in common sorrel herba.Aim. Is the development and validation of a method for the quantitative determination of flavonoids in common sorrel herba.Materials and methods. It has been established that the flavonoid complex of common sorrel herba includes rutin, therefore, the reference sample (RS) rutin was used as a standard for calculating the amount of flavonoids. Alcohol extract of common sorrel herba and a solution of rutin RS were prepared. The complexation reaction with aluminum chloride was carried out. The resulting solutions were investigated by the method of differential spectrophotometry. The spectral characteristics of the test and standard samples were compared. Then we studied the effect of extraction conditions on the yield of flavonoids from the raw material: the extractant, the particle size of the raw material, the ratio of «raw material – extractant», temperature, frequency and duration of extraction. Purified water and ethyl alcohol of various concentrations (20%, 40%, 70%, 90%) were used as the extractant. Next, carried out the selection of the optimal conditions for the complexation reaction (the complexation reaction time, the ratio of «aliquot – aluminum chloride alcohol solution»). The method was validated according to GPM.1.1.0012.15 of the State Pharmacopoeia (SF) XIII edition and generally accepted methods for the following indicators: specificity, analytical field, linearity, accuracy, precision. Results and discussion. The optimal parameters for extracting flavonoids from raw materials were determined (threefold extraction with ethyl alcohol 70% in a water bath, the ratio of «raw material – extractant» – 1:30 for 30 minutes, the particle size of the raw material – 2.0 mm). The conditions for the complexation reaction were selected (the ratio «aliquot: aluminum chloride alcohol solution» – 1: 2.5, the complexing agent – aluminum chloride solution 5% alcohol, the appearance of a stable solution color after 40 minutes). When carrying out the validation of the developed method, it was established that the validation characteristics under study are within the acceptance criteria. When analyzing the raw materials harvested in the Altai Territory in different years, it was found that the content of flavonoids in common sorrel herba ranges from 0,596 to 0,632%.Conclusion. The optimal parameters of extraction of flavonoids from raw materials were determined, the conditions for the complexation reaction were selected, and the developed method was validated. The quantitative content of flavonoids in terms of rutin in sorrel sour grass harvested in the Altai Territory in different years has been established.
