ABSTRACT Objective To describe children food consumption in the five municipal schools in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, and their main characteristics. Methods Cross-sectional study of children enrolled in five municipal schools. The mothers were interviewed at the school. The questionnaire about habitual food consumption was based on the guidelines of the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System. The data were entered in EpiData 3.1 and reviewed in Stata 14.0. The consumption frequency was reported according to each exposure category. Statistical tests based on Chi-Square test with 5% significance level and adjusted analyses through Poisson regression were used. Results A total of 548 children were included. Females represented 51.1% of the total sample; the average age was 48.3 months. Children up to two years of age were those who consumed the most fruits and vegetables while sweets were mostly consumed by older children, aged between three and four years. Unhealthy foods had a high frequency of consumption, with sweet being the most consumed (58.8%), followed by packet snacks (53.3%). In the adjusted analysis, eating meals in front of the screens remained associated with lower consumption of vegetables. Conclusion Eating meals in front of the screens reduces children’s vegetables consumption. At the same time, the child’s age and maternal education seem to have some influence on the consumption of unhealthy foods, indicating the need for nutritional education interventions.

Background: Life in a Prison or a closed Penitentiary always attracts researchers or academics to discuss because of the many problems of life, how to adapt, and how to socialize with a new life in prison. The problems often faced are Self-acceptance and anxiety. Self-acceptance is someone's satisfaction with sleep, so that someone does not show feelings of fatigue, lethargy and anxiety. Poor Self-acceptance can result in decreased activity of the prefrontal cortex which plays an important role in regulating emotions, one of which is anxiety. Aim: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Self-acceptance and anxiety levels in women-assisted residents in correctional institutions. Method: This type of research is Cross Sectional with a sample of 59 respondents with purposive sampling technique. Data collection using the questionnaire sheet Pittsbrugh Self-acceptance Index and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, with Chi Square statistical tests using manual calculations with SPSS Aplication. Results: The results showed 50 respondents (85%) had poor Self-acceptance and 36 respondents (62%) had mild anxiety. significance level or α = 0.05 is obtained Pvalue = 0.015 so that Pvalue <value α or 0.015 <0.05. Means there is a relationship between the level of Self-acceptance with the level of anxiety in women fostered citizens in prison. Conclusion: Good Self-acceptance makes the anxiety level low or doesn't experience anxiety. Conversely, if the quality of sleep is poor, the level of anxiety experienced by women-assisted citizens is being experienced even with severe anxiety.

Background: The child feed in the first two years of life is of fundamental importance for a healthy growth and development. Aims: To verify the association between food consumption indicators and overweight in children under the age of two, followed up by primary care health professionals. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 children assisted by primary care. A structured questionnaire was used with questions on sociodemographic data of mothers or guardians and food intake and anthropometric data of children. The analysis of the association between excess weight and food intake indicators was performed using the Pearson’s chi-square test (χ2) and Fisher’s exact test (f ˂ 5). Results: Regarding food intake in children under 6 months of age, 35.1% of the children were exclusively breastfed. Among children at the age of 6 to 23 months: 66.3% were on continued breastfeeding; 16.7% consumed adequate foods at the age of 6 to 8 months; 90.4% consumed foods that belonged to the six food groups; 76.3% consumed food at the minimum frequency and with adequate consistency; 88.9% consumed iron-rich and vitamin A-rich foods, and 59.3% consumed ultra-processed foods. Regarding nutritional status, 24.5% of the children were overweight. Conclusion: There was no statistically significant association between overweight and food consumption indicators among the surveyed children. However, exclusive breastfeeding was below the recommended level, a low percentage of the introduction of complementary foods at the appropriate age and high consumption of ultra-processed foods reveal the need to improve the assistance provided by primary care to this group.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Facial skeletal asymmetry is commonly found in humans and its main characteristic is menton deviation. The literature suggests that occlusal and masticatory problems arising from tooth absence could be related to the development of such asymmetries. Objective: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to estimate the prevalence of mandibular skeletal asymmetries and to investigate its association with posterior tooth absences. Methods: Tomographic images of 952 individuals aged from 18 to 75 years old were used. Asymmetry was the analyzed outcome, and it was categorized into three groups according to gnathion displacement in relation to the midsagittal plane (relative symmetry, moderate asymmetry, and severe asymmetry). Patients were sorted by the presence of all posterior teeth, unilateral posterior tooth absence, or bilateral posterior tooth absence. Chi-square test with a significance level of 5% was used to verify the association between posterior tooth absence and asymmetry. Results: Results show relative symmetry present in 55.3% of the sample, as well as the prevalence of 27.3% for moderate mandibular asymmetry and 17.4% for severe asymmetry. Moderate and severe mandibular asymmetries occurred in a higher proportion in patients with unilateral posterior tooth absence. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the analyzed groups (p = 0.691). Conclusions: In this study, mandibular asymmetries did not present any association with the absence of teeth on the posterior area of the arch.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to evaluate C-section rates, before and after the implementation of the Project Appropriate Birth based on the Robson 10-group classification system. DESIGN: An observational, cross-sectional study. SETTING: Maternity hospital in South Brazil. POPULATION: All pregnant women attending, April 2016 through April 2017 (phase 1, pre-implementation of the Project Appropriate Birth) and June 2017 through June 2018 (phase 2, post-implementation of the Project Appropriate Birth). METHODS: Maternal and obstetric characteristics were evaluated, including Robson’s classification, based on the characteristics of pregnancy and childbirth. Chi-square test and crude and adjusted prevalence ratios were used to analyze study variables. The significance level was set at 5%. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: C-section rate for each group, their contribution to the overall c-section rate and the differences in these contributions before and after PPA implementation. RESULTS: C-section rates decreased from 62.4% to 55.6%, which represented a 10.9% reduction after the implementation of the Project Appropriate Birth. Pregnant women in Robson classification groups 1 through 4 had the greatest decrease in C-section rates, ranging from 49.1% to 38.6%, which represents a 21.5% reduction. The greatest contributors to the overall C-section rates were group 5 and group 2, accounting for more than 60% of the C-section deliveries. CONCLUSION: The Project Appropriate Birth had an important impact on the reduction of C-section rates, especially in Robson classification groups 1 through 4, which indicates that providing mothers with evidence-based interventions for labor and childbirth assistance will contribute to reduce C-section rates.

The objective of the study was to investigate the food consumption and the nutritional status of students of the Nursing course through practical activity in a curricular discipline related to nutrition. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with the information obtained during the development of an activity of the discipline called "Nutritional Aspects in Nursing Care", in which 76 students older than 18 years participated. The nutritional information was obtained by a paired interview, recording a food pattern and applying a Food Frequency Questionnaire. The study participants were mostly female (80.3%) and the mean age of the sample was 25.3 ± 7.3 years. Many subjects presented insufficient water intake, which correlated negatively with the soda consumption (r = -0.254 p = 0.029). 48.8% of the sample was overweight and 75% were sedentary. The number of meals was considered satisfactory, but consumption of fruits and vegetables was below the recommendations (0.6 ± 0.9, 1.7 ± 1.2 portions). There was high consumption of sugar and fat, identified by items such as soda and fried foods. It is believed that the discipline related to nutrition, present in the curriculum of the course, can serve as an important tool to stimulate better life habits, starting from more appropriate eating practices. Keywords: Food consumption.
