This article seeks to contribute to the field of studies that, inspired in debates about ethnicity, discusses the forms and components of the notion of nationality. How and with what elements is "Brazilian culture" constituted? This question guides the study of landmark designation processes conducted by the National Artistic and Historical Heritage Institute, a federal agency operating since 1937. Considering landmark designation as a form of official recognition of a site as "cultural heritage", the article reflects on the impact of this policy on two religious universes: Catholicism and Afro-Brazilian religions. The conclusions point to distinct forms of recognition of religious universes and to transformations in ways of conceiving nationality

According to a number of myths, the cultural effects of globalization and modernization have not really impeded East Asian countries' efforts towards cultural heritage preservation. In tandem with this, many “fascinated” members of the African intelligentsia view Eastern Asian nations such as China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand among others as true models to be emulated by their nations in the realm of cultural heritage preservation. This chapter examines the extent to which this thesis is plausible, through a critical study of the impact of globalization and modernization on cultural heritage preservation in China and Nigeria. The chapter begins by exploring the question of cultural preservation in an era of modernization and cultural globalization and ends up assessing the degree to which China and Nigeria's efforts towards cultural heritage preservation have been affected by cultural globalization and a West-dominated model of modernization.

This empirical article is the first to consider tourism planning for tourism products based on intangible cultural heritage (ICH). It identifies two sets of factors that affect related tourism planning, the accessibility of ICH-based tourism products for visitor market(s), and the perceived appropriateness of ICH for use in tourism. The factors are derived using a qualitative, ethnographic method, implemented in the Qeshm Island Global Geopark in the South of Iran. Theoretical and practical implications address the requirements for tourism planners to extend the tourism planning arena, the integration of planning efforts for tourism and heritage preservation, and the need to involve stakeholders who co-create value from both tourism and heritage preservation perspectives. The impact of the article lies not only in its originality but also in its contributions to the literature on cultural (heritage) tourism as well as tourism planning.

Introduction. The aim of the study is the problem of protecting cultural and historic properties in the cities, that have been affected and damaged as a result of war. It is shown that the properties of cultural and historical heritage are significantly damaged, threatening their preservation, which can lead to their complete loss. In each case, the primary concern has been the impact of the reconstruction on the values for which the property was inscribed as a World Heritage site. The urgency of the problem is determined by the fact that cultural heritage sites that are not on the UNESCO list remain outside the attention of the authorities, the professional community and the public, which, as a result of reconstruction process, can lead to their loss, loss of urban identity, and not only negative humanitarian consequences, but also reduce significant economic potential. Utilization of historical relics in the Riau region has a foundation in Law No. 11 of 2010 in the spirit of preservation of cultural heritage. Preservation requires the use, utilization and necessity of community involvement. Every effort to use cultural heritage must pay attention to the preservation of nature and the surrounding environment. Educational aspects for each tourism policy must be included and included in the curriculum and learning in schools. In Riau, efforts have been made to make a complete cultural heritage with its eco-tourism as part of tourist destinations. These efforts are carried out by the community, both individually and in the form of communities. Various efforts that are growing in this area require guidance and assistance from the government. There are groups of people who are active in the utilization of historical heritage, but they have not received attention and have not been cooperated by the government in order to develop the people's economy through ecotourism. preservation of cultural heritage. There are focus and priority, such as Siak Regency, but there are some who still have not relied on the nature-based tourism sector as a regional asset. However, in various circles, both government and society, the desire to make historical heritage as an eco-tourism destination is growing.

AbstractThis essay presupposes a meaning of modernity as a moment in the history and as practice of domination and subjugation of African and Afro-diasporic bodies – and why not mention Amerindian bodies –, ended up overvaluing knowledge as something written and literate, discarding oral knowledge and identifying it as something less. The hypothesis to be defended is that by denying these beings the Word, they also denied the Being, a movement that I am calling here ontocide. It is also a hypothesis that Afro-Brazilian manifestations are understood as philosophies, called here arkhé philosophies, I intend to show them precisely as a form to confront colonial practices and as a site for reontologization. I believe that the discussion marked through a bibliographic review can promote new reflections for a less colonized knowledge. Keywords: Cultural manifestations; Modernity; African and Diaspora philosophies; Ontocide.

Participating in an archaeological heritage preservation can be done by anyone, including the community. However, the most important aspect is appropriate participation that will not cause new problems. The study in Tanjungredeb aimed to find out how the preservation operates, to understand the perspective of each archeological stakeholder, and the impact. This research used a descriptive-analytic method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was done by observations, interviews, and document studies. The analysis was conducted by compiling and classifying data to find patterns or themes; thus, their meaning can be understood. Results of the study indicate that there were efforts to preserve archeological remains in the study areas by governments and the communities. However, some preservation practises do not comply with the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia number 11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Heritage. Therefore, it can be concluded that the parties concerned with archeological remains must immediately mediate to inform the correct method of preservation. Also, it is necessary to change imprecise perspectives of preservation to prevent new problematic matters in the future.

Brazil is home for the largest African diaspora. In spite of that, until the end of the twentieth century, Brazil's Africanness tended to be hidden under the Eurocentric construct of a colour-blind national identity and the myth of racial democracy. Since the 1990s, Brazil's negritude or blackness has emerged as an important source of culture, knowledge, identity and public policy. Such a reconfiguration of Brazilian identity and culture to privilege black agency challenges common assumptions in the study of the religions of Brazil, including Christianity. This article examines the impact of Afro-Brazilian spirituality and religions upon Brazilian Christianity, shedding new light on Afro-Brazilian contributions to the formation of Brazil's cultural and religious mosaic. It highlights the often-overlooked agency of Afro-Brazilians as social, religious and cultural actors who have not only resisted colonial and neocolonial efforts to whitewash Brazilian culture, but have also positively contributed to the production of culture, knowledge and identities through a dynamic relation with their African roots. Finally, focusing on Afro-Brazilian spirituality as an important shaper of Brazilian Christianity, this article advances a decolonial perspective that draws attention to the ways Brazil's black Christianity contributes to the production of counter-hegemonic forms of knowledge and knowing.
