The ancient Indian gāthā – a proverbial, succinct type of single-stanza poetry, often collected in thematic sets – became a favoured form of expression among groups of ascetics from the middle to the end of the 1st millennium BCE. This poetry – contrasting with the magico-ritual chant or mantra of the priest and the artistic poem of the aesthete – functions as (self-)instruction for the ascetic/renouncer. Examples include gāthās that exhort him to be as untiring as the Sun in its daily course, or to “wander alone like the rhinoceros!” This chapter delineates the figure of the solitary, wandering renouncer in a selection of Brahmanic, Jaina, and Buddhist ascetic gāthā-verses from that period. Particular attention is given to the use of solar and heroic imagery for describing the ideal renouncer, and how this relates to the real-life conditions of wandering renouncers.

According to Islamic Jurisprudence, one of the most important requirements for a sound marriage is the total agreement of the woman under the guardianship of her father or any other mahram relative. In case of none, the ruler or the judge assume to be a guardian or Wali of a woman. A guardian or Wali is responsible for the selection of the righteous person for the woman and assures the protection and welfare of her Rights and interests. He has the authority to reject and refuse the proposal if the suitor did not deem a sound and sincere match. A marriage without a guardian is considered unlawful, as there is no concept of love affairs and courtship without a guardian in Islam. The guardian evaluates the religious, social and economic compatibility of the couple, while on the other hand a woman selects the spouse on physical attraction and romantic notion which vanishes out soon as the real life starts causing potential problems in relationship. That why Islam lays down principle and law of wilayat for a lady to protect her interests and rights and consider to be a shield and safeguard for her welfare in future marital life.

Beekeepers are faced with quite a number of challenges such as selection of fields and enhancement of honey production. In this paper crisp deterministic honey bee production model was formulated in an attempt to optimize the distribution of beehives in the apiary in order to maximize production of honey and minimize unhealthy competition among foraging bees which often arises as a result of overcrowding. The model was characterized using Weighted sum model (WSM) and Analytic Hierarchical Model (AHM). Finally the validity of the model was tested with the real life data and the results obtained shows that proper distribution of the bee hives in the apiary is important to maximize production and minimize unpleasant fields.

This study examines whether ethnic majority party selectors’ ethnic biases (e.g. beliefs about the political traits of ethnic minority aspirants) impede the selection of ethnic minority aspirants in a proportional representation system. To this end, a quasi-experiment was conducted among local party chairs in Flanders (Belgium). The participants were asked to evaluate both a hypothetical ethnic minority aspirant and an ethnic majority aspirant. When the participants were negatively biased against the ethnic minority aspirant, the selection chances of the ethnic minority aspirant vis-à-vis the ethnic majority aspirant declined. Additionally, the quasi-experimental data were linked to an analysis of the real-life candidate lists composed by the participants for the 2018 local elections in Flanders. The participants’ ethnic biases could not predict the percentage of ethnic minority candidates on the real-life candidate lists. Instead, the presence of ethnic minority voters, aspirants and co-selectors determined the diversity of the lists.

Selecting the right candidate for the right cause is similar to identifying the most compromising solution of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. In real life the selection criteriamay involve vague and incomplete data which cannot be expressed in precise mathematical form or numerical values. Apparently fuzzy-based technique can be applied to describe and represent these data in fuzzy numbers. This paper presents a MCDM fuzzy TOPSIS based model designed to solve the selection problemfor allocation of government staff quarters. Result shows that the proposed model is suitable and appropriate. It was also found that the MCDM model which uses single decision maker rating process can also be applied to multiple decision makers. It is recommended that the application of fuzzy TOPSIS can be extended to other selection processes such as vendor selection, training evaluation or group marking of project works.

Quite frequently one has to solve variant synthesis multicriterial selection problems in construction. These problems consist of many technical-organisational solutions interacting with each other. The solution of each problem can be made of two or more alternatives. In each step k according to j, the effectiveness criterion is selected from variants i. Using the entropy method the weights of effectiveness indices in each step are calculated. By the criterion k(1) the effectiveness of variants in each step is determined. From the row of priorities obtained the first two variants are selected and they are repeatedly calculated by the same methods. The selection of variants (branches) synthesised is made by the criterion Ωs (2). A priority row of variants is determined according to the rule that the greater value of Ωsmeans the best variant (3). The second algorithm is used when there are more than two variants in the steps of problem. A joint matrix between separate steps of solutions is determined. Weights of criteria for each step are determined using the entropy method. It is necessary to regulate the values of importance according the number of variants. The weights obtained by the method of entropy are multiplied by the coefficient considering the number of alternatives analysed (4). The final valuation of branch is obtained according to the formula No 5. The best synthesis result is the one, having the largest Ωs value. The values of criteria effectiveness of each step of each net program branch are summed, when priorities are determined using the same coefficients of effectiveness. The weights are summed using formula 6. It is possible to calculate the priorities of alternatives using the ideal point method. The methods mentioned above were used to solve real life construction problems.

After storming the Bastille on 14 July 1789, Joseph Arné had little time to take in the significance of his actions. Earlier that day, the twenty-something soldier from Franche-Comté had led a daring assault, neutralized several Swiss Guards with his bare hands, and supposedly disabled a cannon that was pointed at his charging comrades. As the sun set, Arné was greeted by throngs of cheering Parisians, who joined the young grenadier in patriotic songs, chants, and dancing. What Arné perhaps did not understand when he finally went to sleep that night was that he was about to become a theatrical star and a public figure. The next morning, Arné was back in the streets, this time “drawn through Paris in a triumphal chariot.” Several weeks later, he was portrayed as the protagonist in La Fête du grenadier, the first play dedicated to the July events, which premiered at the Théâtre de l'Ambigu on 3 September. That evening, the real-life Arné, and not the actor who was playing him, was “enthusiastically celebrated by the spectators and at the end of the piece went onstage to standing ovations.”

Silence speaks louder than verbal speech, penetrating deeper into the hearts of those to whom it is directed. Marriage, as any other institution, is often surrounded by moments of silence between couples, which leads to thoughtful suffering. Contextualizing the theory of Spiral of Silence of Noelle-Neumann in the Bena context in Tanzania, this article provides a reading of the text in the Gospel according to John to discern the way in which it enlightens the real life situations of the church in regard to the role of silence. The article argues that the silence of Jesus in the text, as was his silence in the passion narratives, is a form of expression of his urgency and the communication of his power against the public opinion. In this case, the reading intents to look at the implication of silence within the prism of gender with specific reference to emotional abuses exerted by the church to marginalized people.

The purpose of the article is to reveal the particularities of special tactical training of future officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in the departmental institutions of higher education. The Special Tactical Training is understood as training of the officers of the State Border Service of Ukraine to act with weapons in various situations of operational and service activity. The discipline allows to perform comprehensive assessment of cadets’ readiness to carry out service duties for the protection of the state border, including the specifics of mobile units’ missions. To create real-life conditions, airsoft equipment and interactive shooting complexes of the "Laser Tag" type, multimedia shooting complexes, etc. are widely used. The results of the study confirm that the conditions for conducting such training in the border guard higher education institutions should be brought closer to the real situations, taking into account the specifics of operational and service activity at the border.

Beginning with the author's own experiences, this article examines the plight of graduate students in the current academic job market. After surveying such fields as literary criticism and culture studies for engaged responses to the pressures facing North American graduate students and non-tenure track instructors in the humanities and social sciences, the author indicts colleagues in the study of religion for the manner in which their general preoccupation with describing and interpreting things eternal and immaterial has allowed them to remain aloof from the real-life conditions of the academy in general and their graduate students in particular.

The high detection quantum efficiency (DQE) is the main requirement for an imagerecording system used in electron microscopy of radiation-sensitive specimens. An electronic TV system of the type shown in Fig. 1 fulfills these conditions and can be used for either analog or digital image storage and processing [1], Several sources of noise may reduce the DQE, and therefore a careful selection of various elements is imperative. The noise of target and of video amplifier can be neglected when the converter stages produce sufficient target electrons per incident primary electron. The required gain depends on the type of the tube and also on the type of the signal processing chosen. For EBS tubes, for example, it exceeds 10. The ideal case, in which all impinging electrons create uniform charge peaks at the target, is not obtainable for several reasons, and these will be discussed as they relate to a system with a scintillator, fiber-optic and photo-cathode combination as the first stage.
