A trial was conducted for a period of 6 weeks to evaluate the effect of graded levels of nucleotide supplementation on serum biochemical parameters in Japanese quails. In the trial, 3 day old Japanese quail chicks were randomly distributed in completely randomized design into 4 treatment groups each with 3 replicates of 10 Japanese quails. The Japanese quails of treatment groups T1, T2, T3 and T4 were provided feed containing 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 per cent nucleotide respectively for a period of six weeks. At the end of experiment blood samples were collected for study of serum-biochemical parameters. The results indicated that decreased serum glucose, serum cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and increased HDL cholesterol was noticed in nucleotide supplemented groups at higher levels. Protein profile showed significant improvement in total protein, albumin and globulin while A/G ratio revealed no effect of supplementation. Serum creatinine and SGPT contents showed non-significance whereas, serum uric acid and SGOT contents were significantly (P<0.05) reduced in nucleotide supplemented groups of quails. It is concluded that nucleotide supplementation improves serum biochemical parameters without affecting liver and kidney functions.

Abstract Alumina nanoparticles (NPs) are among the most important nanomaterials and are widely used in diverse areas. In this study, we evaluated the bioavailability and toxicity of alumina NPs in mice after oral exposure, compared with traditional alumina powder. Our results indicated that negligible alumina NPs were absorbed post-exposure and alumina NPs did not influence the balance of essential trace elements, including Fe, Cu and Zn. Preliminary toxicological evaluations suggested that alumina NPs were of low toxicity. The body weights were similar among the mice exposed to alumina NPs, alumina powder and 0.9% NaCl aqueous solution. The low toxicity was also indicated by the unchanged serum biochemical parameters. The implications related to the ongoing safety evaluations and applications of alumina NPs are discussed.

The article presents analyses of biochemical parameters of blood serum in weaned piglets with non-contagious gastroenteritis and after their treatment with a probiotic (live spores of Bacillus cereus var. toyoi; silicic acid; calcium carbonate) and a phytobiotic (natural extracts of Oreganum vulgare, Cinnamomun cassia and Capsicum annuum; hydrogenated rapeseed oil) as part of the basic ration in combination with antibiotic (10% solution of enrofloxacin hydrochloride) on a modern pig farm. In animals of the experimental groups with gastroenteritis we established hypoproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypoglycemia, hypoureaemia, hypercreatininemia, hyperbilirubinemia and increase of enzyme activity compared to parameters of clinically healthy piglets. The study established that the use of probiotics and phytobiotics for weaned piglets had a positive influence on protein synthesis function of the liver, as indicated by the normalization of serum total protein and albumins. Also, we found a positive influence of probiotics and phytobiotics on intensity of protein metabolism, as indicated by an increase of serum urea to the level of clinically healthy piglets. Use of phytobiotics for piglets had a positive influence on the process of gluconeogenesis in their body, which is indicated by the normalization of serum glucose to the level of clinically healthy piglets. Also, the use of probiotics and phytobiotics had a positive influence on the pigment-forming function of the liver, as indicated by the reduction of serum total bilirubin to the level of clinically healthy piglets. The use of probiotics and phytobiotics reduced activity of serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferases in the piglets of the experimental groups, indicating the stabilization of hepatocytes’ cell structures (mitochondrial and cytosolic). The study established positive influence of probiotics and phytobiotics on the functioning of the liver and biliary tract, as indicated by decreased activity of serum alkaline phosphatase and gamaglutamiltranspeptidase to the level of clinically healthy piglets. So, addition of probiotics and phytobiotics to mixed fodder up to 45 days of age, normalizes functioning of the kidneys and liver in weaned piglets with gastroenteritis.

Introduction: Hemodialysis is a process of removal of waste products andtoxic substances from the body using an extracorporeal system. During the procedure, lotsof hemodynamic and metabolic changes occur in the body as a result of which patientsundergoing hemodialysis may suffer from complications both acutely during or just after dialysisas well as in long term. Objective: To determine the frequencies of various acute intradialyticcomplications in our hemodialysis patients. Study Design: Cross sectional survey. Setting:Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. Period: 3 months from May 2017 to July 2017. Method:End stage renal disease patients on regular hemodialysis in the dialysis unit of a tertiary carehospital. A total of 81 patients were included in the study. Patients with acute renal failure andacute on chronic renal failure were excluded from the survey. Results: Common complicationsobserved in our studied population included muscle cramps (70.7%), post dialysis fatigue(57.3%), back ache (56.1%), intradialytic shivering (57.3%), hypoglycemia (21.4%), hypotension(37.8%), hypertension (8.5%), headache (13.4%), vomiting (13.4%) and anaphylaxis in 2.4%.Conclusion: Hemodialysis is a complex procedure and can cause many complications mostof which are not life threatening. With proper monitoring and immediate treatment thesecomplications can be overcome without causing interruption in hemodialysis.

Background : Renal failure is a clinical condition which irreversible reduction in renal function and need hemodialysis as replacement for kidney function. Hemodialysis is a dialysis that perform outsite the body. Indonesian Association Of Nephrology (Pernerfi) stated that new hemodialysis and active hemodialysis patients in Indonesia since 2007-2018 increased, 14.644 new hemodialysis patients and 7.276 active hemodialysis patients.Method : This is a descriptive analysis study with cross-sectional design and multiple logistic regression to identify dominant factor related to quality of life hemodialysis patients. Location of this research was Tabanan General Hospital. The sampling technique was nonprability sampling with total population were 166 patients. Data collected using insomnia questionnaire, family support questionnaire, quality if life questionnaire and complication observation form. Result : The result showed that, higher OR found in intra hemodialysis variabel (OR:180,917), which mean that intra hemodialysis complication is a dominan factor related to quality of life hemodialysis patients. Patients who had complication were more likely to have low quality of life. Further study are needed to identify factors related to intra hemodialysis complications.  Keywords : Dominan factors, intra hemodialysis complications, quality if life, end stage renal failure, hemodialysis.

Several reproductive hormones were reported to be involved in regulating egg yolk precursor synthesis in chickens; however, the mechanism that shows how the liver-blood-ovary signal axis works in relation to age changes has not been reported yet. Therefore, in this study, we observe the morphology and histology of the liver and ovary and determine the serum biochemical parameters and the expression abundance of the critical genes from d90 to 153. Results show that the body weight and liver weight were significantly increased from d132, while the ovary weight increased from d139. Aside from the increase in weight, other distinct changes such as the liver color and an increased deposition of large amounts of yolk precursors into the ovarian follicles were observed. On d139, we observed small fatty vacuoles in the hepatocytes. The results of serum biochemical parameters showed a significant increase in the estradiol (E2) level, first on d125, and then it reached its peak on d132. Meanwhile, the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) increased initially and then remained at a high level from d146 to d153, while the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) increased significantly on d132 and reached the top level on d153. Moreover, the levels of lecithin (LEC), vitellogenin (VTG), very low density lipoprotein y (VLDLy), triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (TC) were significantly increased at d125 and were close from d146 to d153. The mRNA and protein expression of estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-α) and E2 levels in the liver and serum, respectively, showed similar changes. Moreover, with reference to an increase in serum E2 level, the mRNA expression of genes related to yolk precursor synthesis (very low density apolipoprotein-II, ApoVLDL-II) and vitellogenin-II (VTG-II), lipogenesis (fatty acid synthase, FAS), and lipid transport (microsomal triglyceride transport protein, MTTP) in the liver showed up-regulation. These results suggest that the correlation between liver-blood-ovary alliances regulate the transport and exchange of synthetic substances to ensure synchronous development and functional coordination between the liver and ovary. We also found that E2 is an activator that is regulated by FSH, which induces histological and functional changes in the hepatocytes through the ER-α pathway.

The results of hematological studies to determine the impact of the pathogen of trichurosis of pigs on blood serum biochemical parameters infested animals are presented. We established that trichurises’ parasites in the body of pigs leads to a significant reduction of total protein, albumin and increase of total bilirubin, indirect bilirubin and enzyme activity in blood serum. These data suggest about involvement of liver parenchyma in the pathological process, cardiac muscle and smooth muscles of the intestine.
