AbstractFood security becomes an aspect that needs to be considered, especially when the population and degradation of agricultural land are increasing. Many variables that affect the measurement of the food security index, and what is often used is the availability, affordability, and utilization of food. This study aims to determine the effect of food availability, affordability, and utilization variables on the food security index. This study uses a correlational design and multiple regression analysis techniques. All regions in Central Java Province were the objects of this study, there are 35 districts/cities. The results from this study showed that the three variables did not significantly influence the increase of the food security index. The result shows that the current food security index has been influenced by other variables.  Therefore, the government needs to examine more closely the new variables that affect the food security index in order to develop a strategy to improve the food security index in Central Java Province, especially in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. Keywords: Food Security Index; Food Affordability; Food Availability; Food Utilization

ABSTRACT Objective: To measure the impact of the government efficiency and the life quality both as factors of the competitiveness in the municipalities of the state of Campeche from 1998 to 2007 under socioeconomic variable structures. Material and method: This research shows both a quantitative approach based on numerical measures and a statistical analysis that establish patterns of behavior whose results can be observed in competitiveness. However, these results are not explanatory of the variables, so even though they are not used as main observations, there are qualitative elements that support the quantitative result of this work. The methodology used provides a territorial competitiveness indicator at a municipality level considering socio-economic elements related to the context of the southeast region of Mexico. Results: The results show that the life quality of the inhabitants of the municipalities that have agricultural activities and less population is higher than the one obtained in those inhabitants who live in the capital of the state where there is more concentration of population and public services. Conclusions: The highest values regarding the efficiency of the government in the state of Campeche are not necessarily obtained by the administration of the state capital as they are normally expected, due to the fact that the financial allocation is generally distributed according to the number of inhabitants and its financial collection.

In Canada, grocery stores and supermarket shelves display a wide variety of food for consumers. However, newcomer refugees face different challenges in terms of the availability and accessibility of sufficient, nutritionally adequate and culturally familiar foods for consumption upon arrival to Canada that interrupt their integration process in a new society. This study will provide a review of the literature on food insecurity among newcomer refugees in Canada from 2009-2019. This review, demonstrates that refugees in Canada suffer higher incidents of food insecurity than immigrants and Canadians. Existing research also indicate that food security in the case of refugees need to be perceived more than availability and accessibility of safe and nutritious foods, require provision of culturally acceptable foods. Access to culturally familiar foods may not be possible in many instances, but the negative effects of such challenges put refugees in situations of stress and anxiety in their new home. Key Words: Newcomer; Refugees; Settlement; food insecurity; food security; food availability; accessibility; culturally acceptability.

Food security is very much needed during the Covid-19 pandemic, where all activities are limited due to lockdown. The government advocates maintaining distance from each other and avoiding crowds. This socialization is to create a contribution to society in facing the Covid-19 pandemic to maintain food availability independently by inviting people to independently create living pharmacies and nutritional plants. So the hope is that residents do not need to shop for food needs outside the home because of the availability of various vegetables in the yard of the house. Student learning is also hampered. Because it is replaced by online learning, students have difficulty understanding the material, so parental guidance is needed.

South Africa’s past policy of apartheid has contributed to some of the socio-economic challenges the country faces today. Some of the challenges include grinding poverty levels, increasing inequality and unemployment among large sections of the population. The constitution of the country makes provision for property and land rights as strategies for addressing some of the past injustices, ensuring food insecurity and sustainable livelihoods. A number of polices have been drafted in this regard, but it is acknowledged that some of the policies that have been adopted by the government have not yielded the desired result leading to the fear that if the situation is not radically addressed may lead to unintended consequences. This paper assesses a number of polices, programs, approaches and strategies regarding land reform policies have that been put into place, most of which have not worked as expected including the fact that the youth have not been factored into most of these programs and policies. This article advocates for the youth to be factored into all land reform and food security policies and programs as a way of capacitating them and getting the youth to see agriculture as a career choice to ensure future food security for the nation, while at the same time addressing youth unemployment and rural poverty. Keywords: land reform, youth, food security, livelihoods, development, policy. JEL Classification: Q15, Q18, O2
