Preventive analysis of implications of a trauma in the elderly Abstract: This work aims to present an analysis that aims at reporting through the literature review of the evidence for risk prediction in older trauma. Also seeks to identify the causes that contributed to the incidence of trauma and its risk factors in the senior citizen population. The theoretical framework emphasizes a discussion about the concept of population aging and the subject of trauma in this population. This study provides an opportunity for critical reflection, which allows for the acquisition of theoretical knowledge for differentiated performance with the elderly trauma victims, as well as the struggle for the strengthening of this population by ensuring their rights. Finally, we chose this essay by a strictly bibliographical methodology, which presents the dialogue of authors covering the topic.

Background: Research shows that there is a high prevalence of suicide among nurses. Despite this, it has been 15 years since the last literature review on the subject was published. Aim: The aim of this article is to review the knowledge currently available on the risk of suicide among nurses and on contributory risk factors. Method: A search was conducted in electronic databases using keywords related to prevalence and risk factors of suicide among nurses. The abstracts were analyzed by reviewers according to selection criteria. Selected articles were submitted to a full-text review and their key elements were summarized. Results: Only nine articles were eligible for inclusion in this review. The results of this literature review highlight both the troubling high prevalence of suicide among nurses as well as the persistent lack of studies that examine this issue. Conclusion: Considering that the effects of several factors related to nurses' work and work settings are associated with high stress, distress, or psychiatric problems, we highlight the relevance of investigating work-related factors associated with nurses' risk of suicide. Several avenues for future studies are discussed as well as possible research methods.

INTRODUCTION Postoperative vomiting occurs more frequently after tonsillectomy than any other commonly performed paediatric operation. Postoperative vomiting is also the commonest cause of morbidity and re-admission following tonsillectomy. We present a successful completed audit cycle and literature review on the subject. PATIENTS AND METHODS Data on the risk factors for postoperative vomiting, whether the patient vomited and details of the patient's vomitus were collected prospectively on consecutive patients and compared with a gold standard. Changes in practice were agreed and a second cycle performed. RESULTS Two cycles and a total of 107 patients were included in the audit. A significant reduction in vomiting from 27% to 11% was achieved following the introduction of routine use of intravenous dexamethasone during surgery. CONCLUSIONS This simple prospective audit of paediatric post-tonsillectomy vomiting has resulted in a statistically significant reduction in vomiting which would appear to be due to use of intra-operative steroids.

The problem of “population aging” in the countries of the first world and its expected consequences are the subject of active discussion in the scientific community. However, estimates of such effects are generally calculated at the national level for a particular country. Estimates for all countries are calculated by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, but the most commonly used “average” scenario is calculated based on a fixed and fairly small set of hypotheses and patterns. In this work, forecast scenarios of the dynamics of the demographic burden of the elderly in developed countries are calculated and analyzed in connection with the dynamics of the birth rate of these countries, as well as the dynamics of migration flows. The main goal of the work is to identify for each country the scale of the forthcoming increase in the demographic burden by the elderly and to assess how much the increase in the birth rate and the growth of migration can reduce or slow down the growth of this burden.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide. The risk of developing pancreatic cancer increases with age. Pancreatic cancer is seen mostly in the elderly; patients under the age of 30 years are rare. Known risk factors for pancreatic cancer include genetic mutations, smoking, chronic pancreatitis, and diabetes mellitus. We report a case of pancreatic cancer in a 27-year-old man without the PRSS1 mutation. Chronic pancreatitis and smoking may have contributed to the development of pancreatic cancer in this patient. We also conducted a literature review on early onset pancreatic cancer.

Creating healthy, independent, quality and productive older adults can be performed through routine health care efforts, namely the need to pay attention to risk factors to improve the health of the elderly. This study aims to explain the process of empowering the elderly, explain the supporting and inhibiting factors in the process of allowing the elderly, and explain the outcomes of the elderly empowerment program through the posyandu. This qualitative study uses the subject of Posyandu management, posyandu’s cadres for elderly and elderly families. Data analysis is shown in an interactive model by describing complete description data. The results showed that the process of empowering the elderly starts from preparation, assessment, planning alternative programs, formulating action plans, implementation and evaluation; while supporting factors are enthusiastic elderly who are high enough to know the health and support of the elderly family. Awareness is still low even there is a lack of infrastructure. The implication of this research for the field of community empowerment studies is to provide the benefits of preliminary studies for the development of betterquality empowerment models.

Background: All countries have to face the population aging sooner depending on their degree of development; however, elderly care is predicted to soon become a major concern for developing countries such as Nepal. Methodology: A qualitative study was conducted in a senior citizen home of Tanahun district. General health check up of the 30 elderly followed by 2 focus group discussion and one Kll with provider was done to know the status of elderly and their perception towards senior citizen home. Results: Majority of the elderly were abandoned by their family members due to financial sufferings, and some of them left their home in search of their own comfort zone. Majority of them got old aged allowance which is the only way of financial security. They were living happily in the home though they missed their family in some occasion because they could have spent their leisure time by sharing their emotions and feelings with same age groups. Conclusions: Concept of senior citizen home has to be broaden up from the living home of poor old people to relaxing comfort home for elderly. Good management and facility should be incorporated with multi disciplinary team to take care of elderly to spend dignified life in senior citizen home as well.

Environmental and/or work risk factors, lack of basic knowledge related to voice, its incorrect use, and a defective vocal model can lead teachers to develop occupational dysphonia. This study aimed to analyze studies focusing on occupational vocal disorders through a literature review. Articles published over a period of 11 years in periodicals indexed in the ScieLO library were searched according to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Twenty articles related to teachers' vocal occupational disorders were found. We argue that intense vocal use should not harm professionals; the voice has to be pleasant to the speaker and correctly produced. The conclusion is that there is a scarcity of articles available at the studied library relating to teachers' voice disorders. Further studies need to be developed and disseminated so as to increase knowledge in the subject.

AbstractDespite the aging of the population, little attention is paid to the development of specific care protocols appropriate to the skin and even less to the scars in the elderly. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight common clinical problems with scar and scarring in older adults and provide appropriate advices on protocols for managing them. The literature review was carried out to look for the evidence-based elements, but, if the subject of scars is sometimes found, the elements relating specifically to scars in old age are nonexistent. Unsurprisingly, practices vary widely and are carried out according to habit rather than science. Based on our clinical experience of dermatologist and geriatrician and some literature data, some pathways for future research on scars in elderly are proposed.

Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a worldwide health problem among aging populations. However, epidemiological information on Chinese elderly people with CKD is still lacking. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological features and associated risk factors of CKD in aging population in China. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 37,533 individuals aged ≥65 years were enrolled in Binhai from January to December 2018. The crude and standardized prevalence of CKD were calculated. Associations of metabolism-related indicators with CKD were examined using univariate and multivariate analysis. The overall prevalence of CKD was 17.7% (95% confidence interval [CI], 17.3%-18.1%) in this Chinese elderly population. The prevalence was 17.5% among men (95% CI, 17.0%-18.1%) and 17.8% among women (95% CI, 17.3 -18.4%). The mean eGFR was 84.22 (SD ± 12.87) mL/min/1.73 m2, with the median value higher for women than for men. Aging, pre-HTN, HTN, elevated triglyceride and FBG were found to be independent risk factors for CKD. Our study shows a high prevalence of CKD among Chinese elderly population. Aging, pre-HTN, HTN, elevated triglyceride and FBG were all independent risk factors associated with CKD. More attention should be paid to metabolic diseases to prevent CKD in the elderly.

The population increase of the elderly in Chile, as well as worldwide, has caused the appearance of phenomena specific to older adulthood, including Geriatric Depression. The aim of this review is to describe the main concepts and risk factors of Geriatric Depression. This review is structured in three main sections: “Older adulthood”, “Geriatric Depression”, and “Factors associated with Geriatric Depression”, the latter is subdivided into “Psychosocial Components” and “Physical Components”. Finally, in the discussion it is highlighted that for future investigations, as well as for professionals, it is key to include an approach to older adulthood as a complex evolutionary cycle that is in a constant relationship with its social context.
