Local wisdom is a set of value that community members refer to for preventing and handling various issues. Local wisdom that still lives in the society is retained and practiced in daily life by some members of the community. Community members also continue to listen and respect customary, religious and indigenous leaders. As an example, in some areas, children from poor families can continue their education, due to encouragement from traditional, religious and community leaders as well as support from other community members. Once these children graduated school, they can contribute to their community. Literatures have reported that community has an important role in preventing human trafficking. Community also adheres to value system put higher emphasis on women and children and their rights. Families that abandon their female family members and children will be considered as irresponsible families.

This is a chapter of a book containing the results of a study entitled ‘Old and New Forms of Poverty—The Lifestyles of Poor Families,’ which was conducted under the direction of Elżbieta Tarkowska in the second half of the 1990s. The author presents the social world of poor people in Poland, and two of its aspects in particular: the limitation of interhuman contacts to the family circle, and the role of institutions such as parishes, schools, and especially social support, in resolving the ongoing problems of daily life. Social policy, as reconstructed from the statements of people living in poverty, is oriented toward temporary activities and not toward shaping aspirations and behaviors, and yet the sole method of overcoming the apathy and helplessness accompanying long-term poverty is to arouse aspirations in the sphere of education.

One of them is the seblang tradition which is only practiced by the Osing community in Banyuwangi, that is, Bakungan Village and Olehsari Village in Glagah District, Banyuwangi Regency. This research was a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach with 15 informants consisting of community leaders, government, members of community. The results of this study indicated that belief in implementing customs generated the behavior from the results of self-perception which are supported by social perceptions aimed at cleaning the village and rejecting reinforcements. The community's belief in the Seblang tradition is still ingrained and carried out well so that it forms community behavior if it is not carried out, disaster will take place. In the self-perception of the Bakungan and Olesari community, the assumption is that the community members do not celebrate it, they will be ostracized by other communities. However, in its development, the role of government is in hegemony of the community so that custom continue to develop into one of the contestation of customs and tourism.</span></p></div></div></div>
