Indonesian Tourism Industry was targeted as the second source of foreign exchange, but the negative impact from this industry has become an issue that needs to be resolved. The concept of tourism management in Indonesia is still outmoded due to focusing on the massive exploitation of resources for current needs instead of optimizing the resources for the future, certainly, this problem will be a threat for Indonesia's tourism industry continuance in the future. From the socio-cultural impact, economic impact, and environmental impact, altogether has some negative impact that was caused by the industry. The issue not only comes from the tourism producers but also the tourists. In this study, the authors explore the conceptual analysis of sustainable tourism management in Indonesia. Using literature synthesis, it is expected to produce a conceptual model for sustainable tourism management in Indonesia. Based on the literature review, we can conclude that there are three pillars of sustainability that need to be addressed: socio-cultural, economic, and environmental. Future research can be explored through qualitative and quantitative approaches to understand more about the effects of those three pillars in developing sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

This paper discusses contemporary issues in developing Batur toward a sustainable geotourism site. It is a result of a qualitative study using a combined method of document review, observation and direct participation as data collecting methods.   Natural conservation is one of the vocal points of Batur geotourism, as it uses natural environment as attraction and venue. Tourism brings benefits to people in Batur who used to have farming as the only major occupation; since tourism was introduced in this area people’s profession diversified. In general, the benefits of tourism reasonably reinforce a better living in Batur, these such as better economic, infrastructure and landscaping; more appreciation and attention to natural environment and culture; broader social interaction and wider perspective and horizon of the people. Nonetheless, more efforts need to be exerted for better tourism development results. Currently, Batur tourism management operates in fractions, to maximize the benefits from tourism, a systematic and integrated management needs to be devised with the collaboration of stakeholders that enables the provision of quality tourism products and services, an integrated promotion, the availability of tourism facilities and infrastructure that harmoniously coexist with nature, the establishment of network, and the application of regulations that support sustainable tourism.

Purpose This introductory paper aims to provide a broad overview of the significance and contributions of this theme issue. Design/methodology/approach This introductory paper draws from the papers presented at a conference on tourism and local development in the Alpine region (Courmayeur, Italy, June 26-27, 2017). Sustainable tourism from different perspectives was a core topic at this conference, and it is a theme widely discussed in the literature. Findings Sustainability in mountain tourism has many facets, and it involves many aspects of tourism management: mobility and mobility infrastructure; global warming, snow shortage and long-term viability of ski stations; pollution and clean air; price of accessibility; stakeholders’ involvement and networking; and cross-border partnerships. The tourism literature has always been in transition, with many disciplines contributing to its development. Sustainability adds new perspectives that enrich the field and broaden the horizon and discussion. Even though each paper has its own specific conclusion, there are several key themes that emerge from most of the papers. Among these, sustainability is stimulating a re-think of the “classical” products and services provided in mountain destinations, particularly in relation to the winter season. Snow, water and other physical resources typical of mountain regions can no longer be taken for granted, and their progressive scarcity requires a long-term view. Practical implications The findings indicate that it will be necessary to encourage tourists to try and explore the wider range of products and services that a mountain destination can offer. To facilitate this, tourism operators will need to configure a broader and richer experience in the future. The issue of sustainability involves many stakeholders, who can combine their knowledge, competences and activities to maximize the attractiveness of a location while preserving its resources for the future. Originality/value The value of this paper is that it highlights the key themes and perspectives that sustainable tourism is raising.

ABSTRACT Tourism development today is directed to achieve sustainable tourism development following the community-based empowerment principles. Sembungan village is one of the potential village to be developed with those principles. Qualitative research method is used for this research. The result shows that Sembungan village has potential natural resources, but unfortunately only two attractions are developed, they are sikunir hill and telaga cebong. There are more alluring tourism objects in Sembungan village that haven’t been explored. Sembunga village has not yet manage tourism activities based on sustainable tourism principles. Accordingly, there are many aspects that need to be fixed. Tourism management also has not achieved the seven community-based tourism developments principles. Sembungan village still needs more precise strategies and plans to force sustainable community-based tourism development.

Abstract. The core aim of the present study is to compare the effects of a safety campaign and a behavior modification program on traffic safety. As is the case in community-based health promotion, the present study's approach of the attitude campaign was based on active participation of the group of recipients. One of the reasons why many attitude campaigns conducted previously have failed may be that they have been society-based public health programs. Both the interventions were carried out simultaneously among students aged 18-19 years in two Norwegian high schools (n = 342). At the first high school the intervention was behavior modification, at the second school a community-based attitude campaign was carried out. Baseline and posttest data on attitudes toward traffic safety and self-reported risk behavior were collected. The results showed that there was a significant total effect of the interventions although the effect depended on the type of intervention. There were significant differences in attitude and behavior only in the sample where the attitude campaign was carried out and no significant changes were found in the group of recipients of behavior modification.

We are witnessing the emergence of an information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled platform capitalism in which traditional corporations are being displaced. Railing against traditional firms to rescue capitalism would, under these circumstances, seem like misdirected effort. The “working anarchies” (e.g. Uber, Wikipedia) and “pop-up firms” (e.g. Vizio) of this new world use “labor on demand.” Here too there is risk that platform owners exploit their power and become rapacious. Yet, ICT can enable platform capitalism to create community-based, locally controlled alternatives to corporations and states. Cooperatives and democratic software platforms (e.g. Linux) must be important business forms in the future.

Temporal focus is the individual tendency to characteristically think more or less about the past, present, and future. Although originally rooted in early work from psychology, research on temporal focus has been steadily growing in a number of research areas, particularly since Zimbardo and Boyd’s (1999) influential article on the topic. This chapter will review temporal focus research from the past to the present, including how temporal focus has been conceptualized and measured, and which correlates and outcomes have been tested in terms of well-being and behavior. Based on this review, an agenda for research is created to direct temporal focus research in the future.

Abstract Background Adolescents' images of the future emerge from knowledge built on experiences of the past and present and their age-related developmental tasks. Images of the future direct adolescents' decision-making, choices, and behavior. The images of the future can act as a mirror of our times, reflecting the political values and ethos of society. The aim of this study was to examine the fears for the future among Finnish adolescents in the era of climate change. Methods Data from a nationwide survey on the health and health behavior of 12-, 14-, 16-, and 18-year-olds (n = 3520, the response rate 37 %) in 2019 in Finland. An open-ended question on fears for the future was employed as a final question on the survey. The data was analyzed first by inductive content analysis and then by statistical methods. Altogether 7829 fears were reported. These were constructed into 12 main categories. Results Fears for the social relationships and loneliness were the most common (35 %). Fears related to death (33 %), physical health and wellbeing (25 %), life management and success (19 %) and working life (17 %) were next common. Only 9 % of the adolescents reported climate and the environment related fears. In age group comparisons, 12-14-year-olds reported more global and social fears, while 16-18-year-olds reported more personal fears, such as study, working life and relationships. The most common fears among boys and girls were similar in all age groups. Conclusions The most common fears among Finnish adolescents are related to personal life and less to global issues. Against our hypothesis, climate and environmental related fears were not among the top fears, even these topics are figured prominently in media and other research has also reported high proportions of climate change related fears among adolescents. The inconsistencies might be explained by the differences in the research methodologies: whether open-ended questions or structured questions are used. Key messages Most common fears for the future are related to personal issues like relationships, health and work. Fears for climate change were not among the most common ones when open-ended questions were used.

This paper deals with innovative fruition modalities of cultural heritage sites. Based on two ongoing experiments, four pillars are considered, that is, User Localization, Multimodal Interaction, User Understanding and Gamification. A survey of the existing literature regarding one or more issues related to the four pillars is proposed. It aims to put in evidence the exploitation of these contributions to cultural heritage. It is discussed how a cultural site can be enriched, extended and transformed into an intelligent multimodal environment in this perspective. This new augmented environment can focus on the visitor, analyze his activity and behavior, and make his experience more satisfying, fulfilling and unique. After an in-depth overview of the existing technologies and methodologies for the fruition of cultural interest sites, the two experiments are described in detail and the authors’ vision of the future is proposed.
