Ethno-ornithology is the study of the relationship between people and birds. It is a natural scientific approach that explains the relationship between people’s knowledge and the use of birds in their culture. Temuan community is one of the aborigine ethnics in Malaysia. They practice lifestyles that closely associated with nature. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the ethno-ornithology knowledge and practice by Temuan Community lived around the Gunung Ledang National Park, Johor, Malaysia. A set of questionnaires was distributed to 40 respondents from the Temuan community to gather the information of birds used in their daily activities. In addition, the information was also obtained from the interview session with the head of the village (Tok Batin). The identification of the birds obtained from the questionnaire and interview was further confirmed by using reliable resources. A total of 29 bird species was successfully identified. Temuan community used birds in their daily life in many ways such as, food, pet, folklore, entertainment, and many more. Understanding ethno-ornithology between local community and avifauna is good as it helps conservationists to keep track of bird species they use and identify the sustainable ways of this practice that align with the conservation of avifauna species.

<p><span lang="EN-US">There are considerably limited evaluations had dealt with the demand side of the Indonesian B20 biodiesel market. Thus, market research on product performance, product importance, and consumer awareness was performed. This research utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods. In-depth interviews with key informants were summarized in the word cloud form. The outcomes then became the ground for quantitative research. The results of 111 online questionnaires indicated that there was a gap in the level of awareness among respondents in Sumatra to that of outside Sumatra. The male, higher education background, and heavy-user of bio solar cohort were tended to vote a sizeable number in the performance evaluation. Especially for the performance of biodiesel that caused sedimentation on the filter engines (73.08%, 72.35%, and 73.08%). Meanwhile, biodiesel performance that supports the nation's energy security is the most important attribute to be highlighted as the product main entity. The policy implication through multifaceted strategies such as incentive provision for automotive companies that are adaptive to market demand is one of a kind. In the long run, the return to investment from these policies are expected to not only increase the multiplier effects of the oil palm plantation but also national energy security.</span></p><p><span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></p><p><span lang="EN-US">Abstrak</span></p><p><span lang="EN-US">Sejauh ini belum ada evaluasi ilmiah yang mempelajari aspek permintaan produk biodiesel Indonesia dari sisi konsumen (pasar), sehingga studi mengenai evaluasi produk dan kesadaran konsumen biodiesel B20 menjadi tujuan dari penelitian ini.

Abstract The development of high way that crosses wildlife habitat will inevitably cause wildlife casualties. The purpose of this study was to identify wildlife road mortality in Rawa Aopa Watumohai National Park, Southeast Sulawesi (mostly consisted of savanna). Road kill data was collected by driving along the 22.4 km highway in February and March 2020 (n=28). Traffic volumes were recorded by taking traffic samples in 5 different times of the day, an hour duration each (totaling 70 h). There were 37 species being killed (totaling 529 individuals, of which 49.3% happened along km 0-10), consisted of 19 bird species, 3 small mammal species, 10 reptile species, and 5 amphibian species. Based on taxa, the highest number of road mortality was amphibians (dominated by Ingerophrynus biporcatus), followed by birds (mostly Lonchura malacca), mammals (dominated by Rattus argentiventer), and reptiles (dominated by Varanus salvator). Among mammals, no big mammal (booted macaque Macaca ochreata, wild boar Sus scrofa) was killed. Landscape transformation clearly has impacted wildlife in the study area. To reduce the occurrence of road kills, it is recommended to create corridors for wildlife crossings, limiting vehicle speed in the hot spots locations, create speed bumps, as well as adding more signage and road signs along the highway.

Sermo Reservoir is a multipurpose reservoir. Due to its natural beauty and being the only reservoir in Yogyakarta Special Region, it is visited by many tourists. Tourism activities in the reservoir may cause environmental impacts and disaster risks for the tourists. This study aims to determine the potential of Sermo Reservoir as a natural tourism object and, in general, analyze the environmental impacts and disaster risks caused by tourism activities. The study was conducted by field surveys, observations and interviews with the local community. Reservoir water samples were collected for physical and chemical parameter analysis and were evaluated against the standard requirements of water for tourism activities. Data analysis was performed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods, using tables and diagrams of the processed data. In general it was found that the Sermo Reservoir has high potential for tourism. However, due to the lack of supporting facilities, the number of tourist coming to the Sermo Reservoir is still not yet optimal. The environmental impacts caused by tourism activities have occurred. The positive impacts that arise are the emerging business opportunities and the increased revenue of the local people, while the negative impacts are the pollution caused by solid waste and the water quality degradation. The risk of disaster may come from accidents when conducting activities in the reservoir, and it should be considered in the development of Sermo Reservoir for tourism.

ABSTRACT Different vegetation types are distributed in mountains according to altitude, topography and soil. The composition and structure of bird communities in these areas can change in relation to the vegetation gradient, with particular communities occupying each habitat type. In this study we present the changes in composition, species richness and bird abundance over the gradient of forests, savannas and altitudinal grasslands of Maciço do Urucum, a mountainous region located in the Chiquitano Dry Forests domain in western Brazil. We recorded 165 bird species through qualitative and quantitative methods. Forested savannas, riparian forests and submontane forests presented the highest richness and abundance of birds, while arboreal savannas and altitudinal grasslands had intermediate and low values, respectively. The bird composition was similar between riparian and submontane forests, while other vegetation types present more dissimilar bird communities. Our results show differences in composition, richness and bird abundance among the vegetation types present at Maciço do Urucum, and highlight an important function of vegetation gradients for the conservation of bird communities in mountains. Additionally, this is the first study of the bird communities in the Brazilian Chiquitano Dry Forests, an important domain in the west of Brazil which has been poorly studied.
