The Western has always insulted Islam as an out of date, irrational, dogmatic, mystical, static, undemocratic religion and so on. Despite the fact, Islam is a religion that rahmatan lil ‘alamin, dynamic and democratic. But the Western negative assessment of Islam is very strongly attached to their memory. So it’s quite difficult to change the Western understanding of Islam. Furthermore, Islamic societies who are too fanatical tend to shut down and reject the modern era. That is what make the problem more complex. Therefore, Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals sought to overcome this problem by developing Neo-modernism/ Post-modernism (in the 20th century). This is in accordance with the purpose of this article which is to find out Islamic discourse and Neo-modernism/ Post-modernism in the perspective of Nurcholish Madjid and Abdurrahman Wahid. The Research was conducted using a qualitative approach of the type of library research. The results of this study indicate that according to these two figures Post-modernism can be used as a bridge to develop Islamic thought as a religion that will always exist in all space and time, but Islamic values must remain radiated in the modern era. Thus, as Muslims especially intellectuals must be able to balance religion and general science.

<span class="fontstyle0">This article aims to examine the Islamic reform project through the reconstruction of theology and thought carried out by Ḥassan Ḥanafī and Indonesian Muslim intellectuals. Ḥassan Ḥanafī considered the need to reconstruct classical theology, which is regarded as too abstract in describing theological terms and does not have a strong practical basis as a value for the action. In criticizing classical theology, Ḥassan Ḥanafī offers two theocentric theories, namely language analysis, and social reality analysis. Conducting library research that relies on written materials and analyzed with content analysis techniques, the present study shows that Ḥassan Ḥanafī’s theoanthropocentric theological ideas have intersections with the development of Islamic thought in Indonesia. This can be proven by the translation of Ḥassan Ḥanafī’s books and examining his thoughts in Indonesia. Apart from that, Ḥassan Ḥanafī’s thoughts find relevance in Indonesia because Indonesian Muslim scholars carry out similar reform projects.</span> <br /><br />

This paper explores the tolerance in the modern era. Tolerance is an important component in building a plural society aiming at living together without being distinguished from each other. Conversely, the lack of tolerance has the potential to threaten the unity especially in the context of the nation, like Indonesia. The awareness of diversity in thinking and acting will add harmonious life and tolerance, such as the <em>Murji'ah</em> group. This research used qualitative methods that are library research by using Islamic literature as the main reference. Therefore, it can be said that the difference in the world of Islamic thought has long been developed. It is in line with the teachings offered by the <em>Murji'ah</em> group. Although in its development this group is divided into two major groups namely the moderates (<em>Mutawasith</em>) and extreme (Mutasaddid). Since the Murji'ah no longer grew as a dynamic stream, but turned into a passive group. Nevertheless, the original character remains visible that is a tolerant attitude.

AbstractThis study discusses the comparison between the existence and the implementation of Islamic Education in Indonesia and Malaysia both fromreligious educational institutions and public educational institutions. The main problem focuses on: what are the issues that covered equality and differences based on the existence and implementation, and also what matters are dominantly and substantially considered as supporting factors for the cause of those two points (existence and implementation). Methodologically, this study uses library research with qualitative approach as sources in writing. The study describes the policy from the two countries toward Islamic Education including their goals and objectives. In addition, this study is also exploring the development of Islamic Education in the two countries based on the historical facts and current situation. The result of this study indicates that Islamic education plays an important role in developing both nations, and as such, it is granted a special position in the national educational laws of both of these states.AbstrakStudi ini membahas perbandingan antara keberadaan dan implementasi Pendidikan Islam di Indonesia dan Malaysia baik dari lembaga pendidikan agama maupun lembaga pendidikan umum. Masalah utamanya berfokus pada: isu apasaja yang mencakup persamaan dan perbedaan berdasarkan keberadaan dan implementasi, dan juga hal-hal yang secara dominan dan secara substansial dianggap sebagai faktor penunjang penyebab dua poin tersebut (keberadaan dan implementasi). Secara metodologis, studi ini menggunakan penelitian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan kualitatif sebagai sumber dalam penulisan. Penelitian ini menggambarkan kebijakan dari kedua negara terhadap Pendidikan Islam termasuk tujuan dan sasaran mereka. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mengeksplorasi perkembangan Pendidikan Islam di kedua negara berdasarkan fakta sejarah dan situasi saat ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan Islam memegang peran penting dalam mengembangkan kedua negara, dan karena itu diberikan posisi khusus dalam undangundang pendidikan nasional di kedua negara ini.

This journal describes the Evaluation of Islamic Perspective Education. Assessment is intended to determine educational decisions, which consist of planning, management, process and follow-up of education, both involving individuals, groups and institutions. In this context, the assessment in Islamic perspective education is aimed at making decisions related to education truly in accordance with Islamic values so that the educational goals proclaimed can be achieved to the fullest. This evaluation system is based on the evaluation system outlined by Allah SWT, in the Koran and explained in the Sunna, which was carried out by the Prophet Muhammad in the process of fostering Islamic treatises. This research is a type of library research (library research), because the data source that will be explored is more focused on the study of literature: the written texts. Therefore this researcher will emphasize a qualitative approach.

<p>This research focuses on the leadership of the A’wam Council, group of young religious scholars or <em>kyai</em> (<em>Lora</em>) at the Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata Pamekasan Madura Islamic Boarding School, in carrying out institutional transformation of the pesantren (traditional Islamic boarding schools). As the protector of religious-culture, <em>Lora</em> not only preserves the various acpects of religion such as marriage and security (by performing the rituals of <em>tahlil</em>, or <em>yasinan</em>) but also maintains public morality and good social and political relations in the community. <em>Lora</em> functions as the a protector of culture and religion (<em>amanah </em>or public trust) in order to increase the social capital of the pesantren (enriching social networks). Using the collective leadership theory by O’Neill &amp; Berinkerhoff and a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation, this article finds that <em>Lora</em> leadership made use of Islamic values in transforming this institution from a traditional pesantren (<em>salaf</em>) to modern one (<em>khalaf</em>). This process was coupled with the development of an interconnective-integralist paradigm that led to a new pesantren model that not only preserves the traditional methods but also adopted new developments in contemporary thought, namely combining and integrating religious knowledge with general science</p><p> </p><p><em>Riset ini memfokuskan pada dinamika kepemimpinan Dewan A’wam –yang merupakan kumpulan kyai muda (Lora) di Pesantren Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata Pamekasan Madura- dalam melakukan transfomasi kelembagaan pesantren. Sebagai pelindung budaya-agama, Lora tidak hanya memposisikan diri untuk menjaga berbagai dimensi agama seperti pernikahan dan keselamatan (tahlil, atau yasinan), namun juga menjaga moralitas budaya masyarakat serta dinamika sosial politik. Konsistensi dalam peran sebagai pelindung budaya-agama difungsikan oleh Lora untuk menumbuhkan modal sosial pesantren (amanah dan jejaring sosial). Dengan menggunakan teori kepemimpinan kolektif oleh O’Neill &amp; Berinkerhoff dan pendekatan kualitatif melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumtasi, artikel ini menemukan bahwa kepemimpinan Lora didasarkan pada nilai-nilai religius Islam di dalam melakukan pengelolaan pesantren hingga mampu bertransformasi dari pesantren tradisional (salaf) ke modern (khalaf). Proses tersebut dirangkai dengan perkembangan paradigma interkonektif-integralis yang berimplikasi pada model pesantren yang hanya mengajarkan ilmu agama akan diganti dengan nuansa baru, yaitu memadukan dan mengintegrasikan ilmu agama dengan ilmu umum</em></p>

Abstract The “Ayo Mondok” Movement is part of the pesantren's response to modernity. In the modern era like this, there are still many Muslim societies in Indonesia that make pesantren a reference for formal and informal educational institutions. Indeed, initially the pesantren was only traditional and only aimed to explore the science of religion. However, along with the modernization of the times, Islamic boarding schools have not only become institutions to explore religious sciences but also general science. This paper explains the history and development of pesantren, and how the system of pesantren education answers the challenges of modernity. To get the desired results, the research library was chosen by researchers as the research method in this study. The results of this study reveal that Islamic boarding schools are a gathering place for santri to get religious knowledge from a cleric. The beginning of the pesantren was only a simple hut which was built as a makeshift with the aim of getting closer to the kyai or the teacher intended for the purposes of studying religion. While the system of pesantren education is still using the book of salaf or more familiarly called kitab kuning.   Keywords: Islamic Boarding School, Modernity and Islamic Education   Abstrak Gerakan Ayo Mondok merupkan bagian dari respon pesantren menghadapi modernitas. Di era modern seperti ini, masyarakat Muslim di Indonesia masih banyak yang menjadikan pesantren sebagai rujukan lembaga pendidikan formal maupun informal. Memang pada awalnya pesantren hanya bersifat tradisional dan hanya bertujuan untuk mendalami ilmu agama saja. Akan tetapi seiring dengan modernisasi zaman, pesantren tidak hanya menjadi lembaga untuk mendalami ilmu agama saja tetapi juga ilmu umum. Tulisan ini menjelaskan tentang sejarah dan perkembangan pesantren, dan bagaimana sistem pendidikan pesantren menjawab tantangan modernitas. Untuk mendapatkan hasil yang diinginkan, maka  library research dipilih oleh peneliti sebagai metode penelitian dalam studi ini. Hasil dari kajian ini mengungkapkan bahwa pesantren merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para santri untuk mendapatkan ilmu agama dari seorang kyai. Awal mula pesantren hanya berupa pondok sederhana yang dibangun seadanya dengan tujuan untuk mendekatkan diri kepada kyai atau guru yang dituju untuk keperluan menimba ilmu agama. Sedangkan sistem pendidikan pesantren sampai sekarang masih tetap menggunakan kitab salaf atau lebih familiar disebut kitab kuning.   Kata Kunci: Pesantren, Modernitas dan Pendidikan Islam

Abstract[English]: This paper describes the mediation of religion as seen in the important role of the As'adiyah pesantren. This paper used descriptive research method (descriptive research) obtained from the results of qualitative data processing through library data collection (library research), with an interdisciplinary approach method. The analysis was using a critical analytical method with descriptive aspects, namely content analysis using deductive, inductive and comparative analysis techniques on a number of theories, especially in producing scholarship and cadre of scholars in Southeast Asia in the 20th century in Bugis cultural and contextual setting. -Makassar South Sulawesi. This papere explains that in the 20th century there has been an intellectual dynamic that culminated in the formation of the Bugis ulama network of the 20th century. This intellectual network of scholars has a link with the source of scientific authority in Makkah-Medinah which was formed at the beginning of the 20th century. The scientific link between Bugis scholars, especially Gurutta HM As'ad (1907) with K.H. Hasyim Asyari (1871), Anwar Musaddad (Garut, 1903), Zain Mun'im (Probolinggo, 1906), Zainuddin Abdul Madjid (Sumbawa, 1908), Ali Maksum (Rembang, 1915). This proves that Gurutta H.M. As'ad was one of the links of the archipelago scientific network which contributed to the birth of 20th century Muslim intellectuals in the Bugis-Makassar Land of South Sulawesi.Abstrak[Indonesia]: Paper ini menjelaskan tentang mediatisasi agama sebagaimana tampak dalam peran penting pesantren As’adiyah. Paper ini menggunakan metode descriptive research (penelitian deskriptif) yang diperoleh dari hasil pengolahan data secara kualitatif melalui pengumpulan data secara kepustakaan (library research), dengan metode pendekatan antar disipliner. Sedang analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode analitis kritis dengan aspek deskripsi, yakni analisis isi (content analysis) dengan menggunakan tehnik analisis deduktif, induktif dan komparatif terhadap sejumlah teori, Khususnya dalam memproduksi keilmuan dan pengkaderan ulama di Asia Tenggara abad ke 20 dalam latar budaya dan konteks Bugis-Makassar Sulawesi Selatan. Artikel ini menjelaskan bahwa pada abad 20 telah terjadi dinamika intelektual yang mengerucut pada terbentuk jaringan ulama Bugis abad ke 20. Jaringan intelektual ulama tersebut mempunyai mata rantai dengan sumber otoritas keilmuan di Makkah-Medinah yang terbentuk pada awal abad ke 20. Network keilmuan inilah yang mempertemukan mata rantai keilmuan antara ulama Bugis, khususnya Gurutta H.M. As’ad (1907) dengan K.H. Hasyim Asyari (1871), Anwar Musaddad (Garut, 1903), Zain Mun’im (Probolinggo, 1906), Zainuddin Abdul Madjid (Sumbawa, 1908), Ali Maksum (Rembang, 1915). Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa Gurutta H.M. As’ad merupakan salah satu link jaringan keilmuan Nusantara yang turut melahirkan intelektual muslim abad ke 20 di Tanah Bugis-Makassar Sulawesi Selatan.

This study discusses the paradigm of islamization and integration of science in discourse of epistemology as a tradition of islamic thought, to initiate a conceptual islamization of science. The method used was literature study with a historical approach to observe heuristic aspects, source criticism, and hypotheses. The Islamization of science can be seen from the methods used in a pluralistic, valid, and comprehensive manner, it is considered to exist if it is connected hierarchically as a multidimensional reality. The linkages of knowledge in Islam is an important aspect in Islamic epistemology, where the seeking for knowledge itself is not only an obligation, it is even a form of worship and is related to the values of al-Quran. The integration of Islamic science is a accommodation and absorption of islamic values in general science, as a reintroduction of scientific disciplines into the framework of Islam and the dissemination of Islamic science.

AbstrakSantri pada dasarnya mempelajari agama secara mendalam dan kurang menyukai pembelajaran IPA karena adanya dikotomi antara ilmu umum dan ilmu agama, padahal semua ilmu itu bersumber dari Al-Quran. Ada lebih dari 800 ayat kauniyyah Al-Quran namun pembahasan tentang itu kurang diminati. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendesain pembelajaran IPA terintegrasi Al-Quran dan nilai-nilai pesantren serta bagaimana implementasinya. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi pustaka (library research) untuk menganalisis Kompetensi Inti dan Kompetensi Dasar IPA Terpadu yang ada di SMP/MTs Kelas VII, ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an yang berisi ayat kauniyah serta nilai-nilai pesantren. Hasil menunjukkan semua Kompetensi Inti dan Kompetensi Dasar memiliki potensi pengintegrasian pembelajaran IPA dengan Al-Quran dan nilai-nilai pesantren. Hal ini dapat dijadikan sebagai kerangka awal islamisasi sains dalam bidang pendidikan.AbstractSantri basically studied religion deeply and did not like science learning because of the dichotomy between general science and religious sciences, even though all the knowledge came from the Quran. There are more than 800 verses of the Kauniyyah of the Quran, but the discussion about them is of little interest. This study aims to design integrated Quran science learning and Pesantren values and how they are implemented. This study uses a qualitative approach with the type of library research to analyze the Core Competencies and Basic Competencies of Integrated Science in VII Class SMP / MTs, verses of the Quran which contain verses of kauniyah and the values of pesantren. The results show that all Core Competencies and Basic Competencies have the potential to integrate science learning with the Quran and pesantren values. This can be used as an initial framework for the Islamization of science in the field of education.

This study aims to analyze the thinking methods used in Islamic economics critically. This study assumes that the methods used in Islamic economics are mostly designed to determine Fallah. Islamic economics was born not as a separate discipline but as an integral part of the Islamic religion as complete life teaching. Islam guides all human activities, including economics. This research is library research with a qualitative approach. Sources of data in this study using secondary data derived from books and relevant research results. The results of this study found that the methodology of Islamic economics must be built on the principles of Islamic epistemology, produce scientific criteria, and convey Islamic values to others. Islamic economics has a complete scientific building, giving birth to theories that explain economic doctrine and reality.
