This study aimed to explore the negotiation of Islam identity reflected from the hijabi basketball players' subjective experiences in Indonesia. A qualitative method was conducted from a subjectivist epistemological position. Six hijabi basketball players between the ages of 16 and 30 were recruited to participate in this study. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis was adopted to analyze the data since this analysis method allows the researchers to interpret based on the data's in-depth examination. The study results showed that the negotiation of Islam identity was found in the ways of modifying their sports attires and behaviors in and out of the basketball fields. All of the participants saw their modifications as positive actions to integrate the Islamic values in their lives.

Abstract Background: Due to the common instability caused by political and security issues, Lebanese hospitals have experienced acts of terrorism multiple times. The most recent Beirut Explosion even forced several hospitals to cease operations for the first time in decades—but studies show the preparedness levels for such attacks in similar countries are low. Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the experience of Lebanese hospitals with terrorist attacks. Methods: This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with various stakeholders to assess their experience with terrorist bombings. Data was analyzed using the thematic analysis method. Results: The researchers found that Lebanese hospitals vary greatly in their structures and procedures. Those differences are a function of 3 contextual factors: location, culture, and accreditation status. Hospitals found near ‘dangerous zones’ were more likely to be aware and to have better response to such events. A severe lack of communication, unity of command, and collaboration between stakeholders has made the process fragmented. Conclusion: The researchers recommend a larger role for the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in this process, and the creation of a platform where Lebanese organizations can share their experiences to improve preparedness and resilience of the Lebanese healthcare system in the face of terrorism.

This article is based on an investigation whose main purpose was to analyze students’ vocational development in statuses of achievement and academic lagging in Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, during 2014, by implementing Donald Super’s evolutionary approach. A naturalist paradigm, a design of collective case studies of four people (two students from each academic status), four data gathering tools (in-depth interviews, semi-structured interviews, in-depth discussion meetings, and observation), and the categorical thematic analysis method were applied. It was found that there are differences in the vocational process of the four cases studied when referring to one academic status or the other, where the category of achievement is more leaning trend to a better vocational performance, even though it is not a predictor of this; while the academic lagging presents more difficulties in its different vocational stages. Therefore, it is recommended not to neglect academic, vocational and personal-social support to any of both populations, considering their particularities related to the specific vocational processes and the evaluations they carry out during the career.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand how primary school principals in Israel cope with the gaps between authority and responsibility in their work, deriving from partially implemented decentralization processes, and how this relates to school-based management (SBM) and accountability principles. Design/methodology/approach Using the qualitative method, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with school principals from one district in Israel. Thematic analysis was used in order to identify themes in the interviews that enable creating codes for the characteristics of authority and responsibility and for the principals’ strategies. Findings Gaps were found between authority and responsibility, with particularly low levels of authority alongside high levels of responsibility. Coupled with the demand for accountability, those gaps led principals to adopt three strategies – active, partly active, and passive – to help reduce the tension resulting from them. The SBM definition has links to the specific strategy that principals used. Originality/value The results indicate the importance of clear definitions of authority and responsibility in principals’ work. The current study deepens the understanding of the gaps between these concepts as key for understanding accountability at decentralized schools; tensions that principals cope with as a result of those gaps; and the strategies that enable principals to ease the tension for the benefit of all those involved in the principals’ work.

The objective of this study was to explore the social framework of bullying using the discourse of the different agents involved. A qualitative method was used (i.e. thematic analysis). We collected information from 25 semi-structured interviews. Four themes were identified: “Descriptive elements of bullying”; “Bullying is a social issue”; “Normalizing bullying hidden behind other types of violence”, and “An integrated struggle against bullying”. This study shows that bullying is a social problem associated with other types of violence. Bullying should also be studied from the perspective of Social Work to generate new strategies and effective social intervention and prevention programs.

Imposter phenomenon is defined as a self-perception of intellectual fraudulence despite achieving objective success and accomplishments. Imposter phenomenon has been rigorously explored among high-achieving career professionals. The present qualitative study is an attempt to explore imposter phenomenon experiences among female software engineers in the Indian Information and Technology sector. The data, derived through in-depth and semi-structured interviews, has been analysed through a hybrid of an inductive and a theoretical thematic analysis method. Clance and Imes’ (1978, Psychother: Theory Res Pract, 15(3):241) article, “The Imposter Phenomenon in High Achieving Women: Dynamics and Therapeutic Intervention,” has been used for screening the sample and also, as a theoretical lens. The study reveals that external attribution of success, fear of failure, anxiety, and devaluing accomplishments are core psychological processes associated with the imposter phenomenon experience. The current work further found that parenting patterns characterized by lack of praises, comparison among siblings, lack of trust in children’s potential, and strict gender values are significant antecedents of Imposter Phenomenon.

Background: There seems to be a paucity of research on the initial subjective experiences of family caregivers of survivors of a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Objective: To explore the challenges that family caregivers face during the initial stages of recovery of a relative who has sustained a TBI. Methods: Thematic analysis was used to explore the findings from semi-structured interviews that were conducted with 12 female family caregivers of relatives who had sustained a TBI. Results: Family caregivers recalled their initial experiences of the shock at hearing the news about their relative’s TBI, negative experiences in hospital and frustrating interactions with healthcare professionals as particularly challenging. Conclusion: The findings of this study emphasise caregivers’ need for support, information and psycho-education, especially from healthcare professionals, from the very beginning stages of recovery from a TBI. Practical and physical needs with regard to admission to and care in the hospital were also highlighted. This research will hopefully contribute to creating awareness amongst healthcare professionals on how they can contribute to improvement of the services provided by the healthcare system based on the experiences of the caregivers who participated in this study.

The mathematical connections made by five Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers (PSMTs) when solving problems on the derivative were analyzed. The conceptual framework used was the typology of intra-mathematical connections. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were conducted, and a questionnaire was designed, which included three tasks about of the derivative, which were analyzed through the thematic analysis method. The results showed that PSMTs made mathematical connections: meaning, different representations, procedural, part-whole, implication and feature. We identified that the PSMT's difficulties in establishing connections are caused by the meaning they have on the derivative concept, acquired in their received teaching and, if they are not attended, they can be reproduced in their future practice as in-service teachers.

The evaluation of curriculum is significant in terms of curriculum's working and being developed effectively. There are a lot of curriculum evaluation approaches. Recently, one of the most widely accepted paradigms in the field of curriculum evaluation is the opinion that the participants of curriculum are vital for curriculum evaluation. In this study, the views of teachers, who are among the important participants of the curriculum, related to the evaluation of present curriculum and how the evaluation should be carried out were analyzed. In this regard, the aim of this research is analyzing the curriculum evaluation at elementary level in relation with teachers' views. The research being a descriptive study regarding defining a case, is designed according to qualitative method. Accordingly, semi-structured interviews were conducted with determined 11 teachers using critical case sampling and snowball sampling methods. The data was analyzed with descriptive analysis method and presented being supported by direct quotations. As a result of research, it is observed that teachers find the curriculum evaluation activities in our country insufficient. In parallel with the results, the use of Participant-Oriented Evaluation Approach widely in elementary curricula is recommended.

This study explores the different perspectives of UIC graduates regarding education-job mismatch and interpreted it to create a possible model of its perceived causes and impacts, according to the participants themselves. The participants were two (2) female and one (1) male graduate of Business Administration who is currently experiencing education-job mismatch. The researchers’ implied semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to gather and interpret data. They were able to form 12 themes that are divided into 4 categories that successfully answered the research questions of this study. Results show that some of the perceived causes of education-job mismatch is weak economy and inadequate job opportunities, field of study, and theory and practice misalignment. Thus, the findings of this study suggest that education-job mismatch itself is caused by a weak economy which also causes a weak economy.
