We hope this paper can open our horizon on this topics and enhance our knowledge especially on philosophy of language in Islamic perspective. This paper affords to describe Shahrur’s thought on relation between philosophy of language and modernity. Important findings of the paper are: first, language as important reality in human life. With language realities of human life can be articulated well. So, language is a mirror of reality. Second, when we understand that “language as mirror of reality”, actually we make language passively. Shahrur’s philosophical thought on language gives us understanding that language can be functioned as active tool for developing progressive ethos and value for supporting modernity in Islamic world. Third, Philosophy of language gives us possibility for raising a new horizon of understanding on language as object of study.
Keywords: Shahrur, Filsafat Bahasa, Modernitas

Nowadays, entertainment has become part of human life especially to the Muslim young generation. Entertainment is a need at any time and anywhere such as while driving, at home or during leisure time. However, there is a different opinion regarding entertainment itself. Some of the views opine that it is forbidden either through media or any other medium, and there is also an opinion saying that it is only permissible by medium of nasyid. This article intends to explain and discuss the law or ‘hukm’ of media entertainment either by way of hearing the music, song, nasyid or by manner of singing from fiqh and fatwa perspectives. Documentary research method will be adopted in the study and gathering of information on views from the Islamic perspective with regards to this issue. Outcome of research asserts that Islam does not object to music whether in the traditional or modern form as long as it does not transgress with the teachings of Islam. The Fuqaha opine that entertainment is permissible in Islam in so far as it does not contain elements of neglect, badness or forbidden by Islam. Keywords: Entertainment, music, fatwa, traditional, permissible. The essence of personality potential is one of the important characteristics of understanding a person as an integral being, creating an individual space of personal aspirations and values. The origins of the problem under consideration in various forms are present in the philosophical reflections of many researchers and have a long history. Even Socrates, Plotinus, Cicero, Thomas Aquinas drew attention to the deep foundations and spiritual essence of man, to the presence of virtues in a state of potential stagnation, to the need for their development in order to achieve the ideal of perfection. N. Kuzansky, S. L. Frank, P. I. Tillich noted the presence of latent force unfolding in time in living beings, the rejection of the self and introduction into something higher, the correlation of the divine and the human, the interconnection of things and events, etc. The modern world actualizes the solution to the problem, creating conditions for a deeper understanding of the potential, consideration of its integrity and the essential foundations of maximum realization. The crisis in all spheres of human life, economic, political, social, requires a quantum leap in understanding the potential and building, on the basis of modern studies of the phenomenon, new projects for transforming reality. In this regard, understanding the historical aspect of studying the logic of the genesis of potential makes an invaluable contribution to solving this problem. Understanding the depth of philosophical thought in a historical retrospective about the origin, emergence and existence of potential will allow you to connect the past and the present, as well as qualitatively advance into the future.

Water accounting is a new topic that discusses the impact of environmental changes where the existence of water as one of the most vital natural resources is becoming increasingly scarce. The conceptual framework of water accounting should include the element or value of Ihsan. That is, it is expected that users will be able to implement the Ihsan value in water accounting. The environment is an ecosystem created entirely by God for human life. The value of Ihsan in the conceptual framework of water accounting, especially peatland, requires knowledge of the characteristics, types and distribution of peatland. It is intended that peatland can be utilized and managed sustainably. Implementation of the Ihsan value of utilizing peatland for life without damage. As khalifatullahfilard, humans must be able to maintain a balanced environment and life so that nature remains sustainable.

Japanese philosophy is now a flourishing field with thriving societies, journals, and conferences dedicated to it around the world, made possible by an ever-increasing library of translations, books, and articles. The Oxford Handbook of Japanese Philosophy is a foundation-laying reference work that covers, in detail and depth, the entire span of this philosophical tradition, from ancient times to the present. It introduces and examines the most important topics, figures, schools, and texts from the history of philosophical thinking in premodern and modern Japan. Each chapter, written by a leading scholar in the field, clearly elucidates and critically engages with its topic in a manner that demonstrates its contemporary philosophical relevance. The Handbook opens with an extensive introductory chapter that addresses the multifaceted question, “What Is Japanese Philosophy?” The first fourteen chapters cover the premodern history of Japanese philosophy, with sections dedicated to Shintō and the Synthetic Nature of Japanese Philosophical Thought, Philosophies of Japanese Buddhism, and Philosophies of Japanese Confucianism and Bushidō. Next, seventeen chapters are devoted to Modern Japanese Philosophies. After a chapter on the initial encounter with and appropriation of Western philosophy in the late nineteenth-century, this large section is divided into one subsection on the most well-known group of twentieth-century Japanese philosophers, The Kyoto School, and a second subsection on the no less significant array of Other Modern Japanese Philosophies. Rounding out the volume is a section on Pervasive Topics in Japanese Philosophical Thought, which covers areas such as philosophy of language, philosophy of nature, ethics, and aesthetics, spanning a range of schools and time periods. This volume will be an invaluable resource specifically to students and scholars of Japanese philosophy, as well as more generally to those interested in Asian and comparative philosophy and East Asian studies.

Summary The history of linguistics is presented as a crucial part of linguistics as a whole, in view of its contribution to the understanding of the logical and cognitive structure and evolution of the linguistic discipline itself. The basis for this view is to be found in Saussure’s distinction between the ‘matter’ and ‘object’ of linguistic science: what changes through time is not merely the object of study, namely, the complex system we call ‘language’, but also its matter, since the evidence we put forward is not simply given per se, but is selected by the investigator in accordance with certain determinants both internal and external to the discipline. Furthermore, this change affects the way in which evidence and theory are linked, i.e., the cognitive procedures leading from the former to the latter, which in turn are influenced by internal and external factors. This thesis is illustrated in a discussion of three crucial chapters in the history of linguistic thinking: Renaissance philosophy of language, Port-Royal linguistic theory, and Saussure.

It is well known that the medieval philosophical thought of the Islamic world ("Muslim", "Islamic", "Arab-Muslim" philosophy) was characterized by a significant level of understanding of the phenomenon of religion. This was due not only to the religious coloration of the tradition itself or the purely religious outlook, but also to the importance of the role that religion played and continues to play in Muslim societies. One of the manifestations of this phenomenon is the long-term development of historical, doxographically-apologetic and philosophical views on the phenomenon of religion, its content, functions and role. Religion acted as the starting point of a whole system of social, cultural, economic and political ties, and therefore one of the pressing problems of medieval Islamic religious thought (as we refer to the tradition of understanding the phenomenon of religion) was the problem of categories and definitions related to variable ideas. about religion in general.

Abstract:The presence of works on semiotics in the academic tradition in the Islamic world is noticeable nowadays but most of those works are dealing with general topics such as the idea of semiotics as propounded by de Saussaure, and Pierce alongside of many reproductions of their works. It is appalling that many of our scholars in the Islamic world, albeit their awareness of the risk and potential negative ideological impact and its contradiction to human nature and Islamic revelation; still continue to depend on these references in their research and teaching. Therefore, it is significant for us to present the discipline from the perspective of Islam. Keywords: Semiotics- Terminology- Islamic Perspective- Western Perspective- Tradition.
