Linear printed text and nonlinear hypertext compete for the attention of children and adults. The article will focus on the problems of reading in the new digital reality associated with the emergence of new format texts and changing reading practices. This issue is becoming relevant, as digital reading begins to prevail over traditional, which has an impact on individual readers and on the education system as a whole. This problem remains insufficiently studied in the social Sciences. The first part of the article discusses the possible social and pedagogical consequences of the transition to digital reading in education. A review of scientific research on the problem shows that children understand texts better if they read them on paper. One reason for this is the different purposes with which we read printed and digital texts. Screen reading is more often a means to communicate or to find information, with the result that the mechanism of digital reading can be defined as «read-slip» as opposed to a slower, thoughtful immersion in printed text. The modern education system should provide conditions for the formation of double literacy: traditional and new, which will allow to understand the deep and complex things presented in digital and printed format. The results of the empirical study of reading practices of fourth grade students will be presented in the second part of the article.

This chapter provides a background on ethical costs of upward mobility. It explains what ethical costs are, why they matter, and how to contend with them. The chapter outlines the elements of a new narrative of upward mobility, one that is honest about the ethical costs involved. It also emphasizes how narratives are powerful tools in shaping the understanding of people and their future. The ideas introduced are not only backed up by arguments or evidence from the social sciences, but also illustrated by the stories of real-life strivers. It does not intend to serve as a rigorous, systematic empirical study of the experiences of first-generation students. Rather, it is meant to show narratives of upward mobility that are far more ethically complicated than is generally acknowledged.

Based on two sets of data consisting of research articles from Web of Science, analyses were made on articles citing Genette and articles using the paratext concept. The purpose was to investigate the context in which the paratext concept is used and Genette is cited by analyzing the journals and research fields in which the articles were published, the literature these articles are based on, and the terminology used in the articles. This chapter presents the results, which show both close connections and similarities in citation patterns, namely, to literature studies and to the humanities in general. It is also possible to see signs of an increased interest in digital media and a widening of cultural expressions studied within the realm of the humanities, such as computer games, while Genette and paratextual theories are used to a much lesser extent in the social sciences. In addition to the empirical study, the relation between paratext studies and bibliometrics is briefly discussed.

We live in an age of the rise of scientific positivism, methodological particularism, and disciplinary chaos. We are witnessing the process of fragmentation of the scientific system, partialization, dehumanization and marginalization of the social sciences. The paper discusses the importance of multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research for overcoming the crisis of social sciences and humanities. In this context, special emphasis is placed on the importance of improving the practice of integrated studies in the education system at universities; and especially the importance of cooperation between natural / biomedical research and humanities (genetics, ecology, anthropology, demography, philosophy, ethics, history, psychology and sociology).

The article centers on the problems of reading in the new digital reality associated with the appearance of texts of a new digital format and the changed reading practices. This issue becomes topical, as digital reading starts to prevail over traditional which affects individual readers and the educational system. We conducted a pilot study of the reading skills of fourth-grade students (106 people) and analysed their reading practices. Testing according to the method of L. Yasyukova showed that most pupils (70%) have incomplete reading skills. Our respondents spend more time on digital reading (searching for information and communicating with friends on the Internet) as compared to reading paper books. In classes where pupils spend more time on the Internet, a larger percentage of pupils showed incomplete reading skills. Based on the data obtained, we formulated a hypothesis that requires further verification. The time spent by pupils on the Internet and the amount of digital reading may affect the level of understanding of texts on paper.

The purpose of this study are 1) knowing the application of the work discipline of teachers in SDN 02 Sawangan Depok, 2) knowing the application of student learning discipline in SDN 02 Sawangan Depok, and 3) knowing the effect of the teacher's work discipline on the learning discipline of fourth grade students in the SDN 02 Sawangan Depok. This research uses a quantitative approach. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 30 students as respondents. Test the validity and reliability of the questionnaire in this study using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program with type 21.00.The results showed that 1) based on the results of the rating scale analysis test obtained a questionnaire value of 1150 with intervals ranging from 1081-1440. This means that the application of the work discipline of teachers in SDN 02 Sawangan Depok in the category of "Very Good". 2) the application of student learning discipline in class IV at SDN 02 Sawangan Depok based on the results of the scalae rating analysis test obtained a questionnaire value of 1494 the interval ranged from 1441-1920, so it can be concluded student discipline in the SDN 02 Sawangan Depok in the category of "Very Good". 3) there is a significant influence between the teacher's work discipline on student learning discipline at SDN 02 Sawangan Depok which is supported by a correlation number of 0.409 bigger than rtable 0.374 at a significance level of 5% and also the results of the F test which show an Fcount of 5.617 bigger than Ftable of 4.20. Because the value of the correlation test shows rcount bigger than of rtable and the results of a simple regression test show that Fcount bigger than Ftable it can be stated that the hypothesis there is an influence between the teacher's work discipline variables on student learning discipline is accepted. While seen from the coefficient of determination (R) of 16.7% it is known that the influence between the teacher's work discipline variables on student learning discipline is 16.7% which is quite influential.
