Abstract Diabetes Mellitus or diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease disorder caused by pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body can’t effectively use produced insulin. In pregnant women with a family history of diabetes mellitus, the prevalence of pregnancy with diabetes mellitus is 5.1%. This research aim to determine description of pregnant women condition with diabetes mellitus in RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This research used descriptive method with case series design. The sample size of 19 pregnant women with diabetes mellitus was selected by total sampling technique. The results showed that the high maternal age (52.6%), low education (89.5%), unemployment or housewife (89.2%), had a genetic 78.9%), BMI overweight (57.9%), glucosuria (89.5%), history of pre-eclampsia (57.9%), low parity (79%), never miscarried (84.2%). Based on the result of the research, it was concluded that maternal education, maternal job, genetic, overweight BMI, glucosuria, and history of pre-eclampsia had an effect towards the occurrence of pregnant women with diabetes mellitus, also maternal age, parity and history of miscarriage had no effect on the occurrence of pregnant women with diabetes mellitus. To raise awareness of the risks of pregnancy with diabetes mellitus can be done with screening for diabetes mellitus.  Keywords: diabetes mellitus, pregnant women, RSD dr. Soebandi.

Mild preeclampsia is the frequent disease experienced by pregnant women in Puskesmas Jagir in 2011-2014. The number of mild preeclampsia in Puskesmas Jagir keep increase significantly. The purpose of this study is to analyze the association between the characteristics, family history and calcium supplementation in pregnant women with mild preeclampsia at Puskesmas Jagir Surabaya. The type of research is non-reactive research with case control design. Subjects was taken from the population using simple random sampling. The variables studied were age, body weight changes, parity, family history of preeclampsia, contraception, family history of diabetes mellitus, family history of chronic hypertension, and calcium supplementation. The statistical test was Chi-square test with α = 0.05, odds Ratio is calculated by value with 95% confidence interval (CI 95%). Variables associated with mild preeclampsia is a maternal characteristics such as parity (p = 0.001, OR 0.17) and contraception (p = 0.019, OR = 5.636). Variables that are not associated with mild preeclampsia is a maternal characteristics such as the form of changes in body weight during pregnancy, age, and family history of diabetes mellitus in the form of family history and family history of hypertension and calcium supplementation. There is a association between parity and contraception with mild preeclampsia.Keywords: mild preeclampsia, parity, contraception

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is carbohydrate intolerance at the onset of pregnancy which induces pathological short term or long term outcomes for both mother and baby. The aim of the present study was to know the prevalence of GDM in pregnant women who were attending the antenatal care (ANC) center at a tertiary care hospital in Kolar, Karnataka, India.Methods: This prospective study was conducted in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, a constituent of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar, Karnataka, India. The duration of the study was two months. In this study, 108 pregnant women above 24 weeks of gestation were screened for GDM by oral glucose tolerance test. Fasting 2 milli liter blood was collected and were given 75 grams of glucose in 200 milli liters of water and asked to drink within 5 minutes. Again 2 milli liters venous blood was collected after 1 hour and 2 hours from all participants. Plasma sample was used for the estimation of glucose by glucose oxidase and peroxidase (GOD-POD) method.Results: Out of 108, 12 women (11.1%) were diagnosed with GDM. The prevalence rate was higher in the age group of 26-30 years (41.6%).  Among 12 diabetic women, five (47.2%) exercised regularly and seven (58.3%) did not doing exercise. Out of 12 GDM subjects, eight of them had family history of diabetes in first degree relatives; among which one was hypertensive and five were suffering from thyroid problems.Conclusions: In the present study, the prevalence of GDM was found to be 11.1%. Prevalence of GDM might be influenced by increasing age, pre pregnancy weight, family history of diabetes, past history of pregnancy complications, status of literacy and exercise.

BACKGROUND Obesity has emerged as an important risk factor in modern obstetrics and poses a major threat to pregnancy by causing complications including gestational diabetes. It also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus in later life. Obesity creates major technical challenges in providing maternity services too. The objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of abnormal glucose tolerance in obese pregnant women in a Government Medical College over one year. METHODS A prospective observational study was conducted among obese pregnant women, registered at the Outpatient department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Government Medical College, Kottayam from January 2017 to December 2017. 450 women were considered for the study after satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria. BMI was calculated using pre-pregnant weight. An oral glucose test was performed with 75 gm glucose at 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy after 8 hours of fasting. International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group cut-offs i.e., fasting blood sugar values more than 92 mg/dl, 1hr value more than 180 mg/dl, 2 hr value more than 153 mg/dl were used as the criteria. Oral glucose tolerance was considered abnormal if any of the above values were impaired. RESULTS The prevalence of abnormal glucose tolerance among the 450 pregnant women was 35.6 %. The incidence of abnormal GTT increased with increasing age and in those with a history of menstrual irregularities and infertility treatment. No relation was found between economic status, family history of diabetes, preeclampsia and abnormal GTT. CONCLUSIONS Obesity turns to be a menace in the reproductive life of women that begins by affecting the fertility, continues to cause complications in pregnancy, increases morbidity in the long-term future and reduces the quality of life. Since more than one-third of the study population was affected by gestational diabetes, active intervention to reduce the weight preconceptionally is needed. The association between the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene and GDM has not been thoroughly investigated in Chinese pregnant women. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether VDR gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs154410, rs7975232, rs731236, rs2228570 and rs739837 contribute to GDM risk in Wuhan, China. In addition, we aimed to explore their combined effect on the risk of GDM. Methods Pregnant women who had prenatal examination at 24 to 28 weeks’ gestation in our hospital were included in this case-control study. After exclusion, a total of 1684 pregnant women (826 GDM patients and 858 non-diabetic controls) were recruited. The clinical information and blood sample were collected by trained interviewers and nurses. Genotyping of candidate SNPs was conducted by the Sequenom MassARRAY platform. Statistical analyses such as t-test, chi-square test and logistic regression etc. were performed to the data with SPSS Software. Multifactor dimensionality reduction method was used to explore the gene-gene interactions on the risk of GDM. Results Differences in age, pre-pregnancy BMI, family history of diabetes and morning sickness between the case and control groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05), whereas no significant differences were found in height, gravidity, parity, and age of menarche (P > 0.05). There were no significant differences at allele and genotype distributions of the examined VDR gene SNPs (P > 0.05). After adjusting by age, pre-pregnancy BMI, family history of diabetes and morning sickness, the results of logistic regression analysis showed no associations of the five SNPs with GDM in all the four genotype models(P > 0.05). Furthermore, there were no gene-gene interactions on the GDM risk among the five examined VDR gene SNPs. Conclusion The VDR gene SNPs rs154410, rs7975232, rs731236, rs2228570 and rs739837 showed neither significant associations nor gene-gene interactions with GDM in Wuhan, China.

Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a glucose tolerance disorder that first appears during pregnancy. GDM can cause a variety of obstetric and perinatal complications for pregnant women and their fetuses. The prevalence of GDM in the city of Surabaya in 2015 amounted to 2.29%, increasing to 3.88% in 2018. Aim: The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants (family history of diabetes mellitus, BMI, history of birth weight, parity, and the age of the pregnant woman) that influence the GDM. Methods: This research is an analytical study with an observational approach. The research design was carried out using a case-control study. In this study, the number of samples was 36 people, 6 cases, and 30 people as controls, and were taken randomly. The data source obtained from secondary data (medical records of pregnant women) at Mulyorejo Health Center Surabaya. The analysis used in this study was a simple logistic regression test. Results and Discussion: The result showed an effect of a family history of diabetes mellitus (p = 0.035) on the incidence of GDM. Parity was a potential variable (p = 0.077) on the incidence of GDM. Meanwhile, BMI, history of birth weight, and mother's age did not affect the incidence of GDM. Conclusion: Pregnant women with a family history of diabetes who are not balanced with maintaining a good lifestyle can experience complications of developing GDM.

GDM is a condition in which high blood glucose level is exhibited in a women during pregnancy without a previous diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus. Indian women are considered to be more prone for developing GDM. The increasing prevalence of GDM may be due to obesity, family history of Diabetes Mellitus, sedentary lifestyle, genetic predisposition and dietary habits. The screening and management of GDM in the general population remain controversial with conflicting guidelines and treatment protocols. Adequate blood sugar control in GDM women might reduce various maternal, foetal and neonatal complications. Prospective Observational study was done to find out the prevalence and risk factors of GDM. The study was conducted in the OBG department of the study center and pregnant women with 24-28 weeks of gestation attending for antenatal care were included. The results obtained from the study says the prevalence of GDM was found to be 16% in the study center, which is at par with South Indian prevalence. This study concludes that GDM is largely associated with a family history of diabetes mellitus, obesity and higher maternal age in that particular study setup.

BACKGROUND: As of January 2021, Indonesia had the 21st highest number of total COVID-19 cases and the 17th highest total deaths among all countries. COVID-19 infection in pregnant women seems to negatively affect both maternal and neonatal outcomes. CASE REPORT: We describe four cases of pregnant women confirmed with severe and critical COVID-19 that resulted in maternal death from November until December 2020. The first case was complicated with thrombocytopenia, her condition quickly deteriorated post-delivery. Pulmonary embolism was suspected as the cause of death. Second and third cases were complicated with preeclampsia, obesity, and advanced maternal age. Second case came in sepsis condition. Her SARS CoV-2 RTPCR swab test came out after her death. Third patient did not have COVID-19 symptoms at admission. She starts having symptoms on second day and was confirmed positive a day after. She falls in septic shock. Fourth patient has history of fever, cough, and dyspnea. She was confirmed positive on first day and her condition worsened, diagnosed with bacterial co-infection sepsis on day eight. All patients underwent cesarean section. CONCLUSION: Limited information and studies for COVID-19 management in pregnant women are challenging for obstetricians. Management should be individualized weighing the benefit and risks in presence of comorbidities or accompanying disease.

ABSTRACT  Background Pre eclampsia is hypertension that occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy accompanied by proteinuria. Based on Mangunang Kotaagung's Regional General Hospital, Mangunang Kota Agung itself obtained data from 1 January 2017 to 30 April 2019, there were 84 cases of preeclampsia from 677 cases who entered the Midwifery Hospital in Batin Mangunang, Agung City.  The Purpose of the study was the relationship between the risk factors of pregnant women and the incidence of preeclampsia and eclampsia in the Batin Mangunang Hospital in the Great City of Tanggamus Regency in 2019.  MethodsThis type of research is quantitative analytical research with a cross sectional approach. This population is all pregnant women who experienced preeclampsia as many as 54 cases for cases and 54 samples for control because this study uses a comparison of cases 1: 1. the sampling technique used is total sampling. Data collection using observation sheet and data analysis used is univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test.  The results showed that the frequency distribution of non-risk age was 66 people (61.1%), non-risky parity as many as 60 people (55.6%), respondents with a history of non-risky diseases as many as 81 people (75.0%), risky education (SD, SMP) as many as 54 people (50.0%), risk antenatal care as many as 55 people (50.9%), the incidence of preeclampsia cases as many as 54 people (50%), while respondents with preeclampsia control as many as 54 people (50%),  CoclusionThere is a relationship between risk factors for pregnant women based on age pvalue = 0.001, parity pvalue = 0.012 and antenatal service pvalue = 0.007 with the incidence of pre eclampsia, there is no relationship between risk factors for pregnant women based on maternal education p value = 0.847 and history of chronic disease 182, with the incidence of pre-eclampsia. Suggestion Can be used as knowledge, information, and references in subsequent studies related to factors related to the incidence of preeclampsia in labor by adding different variables and adding the number of samples with primary data.  Keywords: risk factors for preeclamptic events  ABSTRAK   Latar Belakang Pre eklampsia adalah hipertensi yang timbul setelah 20 minggu kehamilan disertai dengan proteinuria. Data Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Batin Mangunang Kota Agung Periode 1 Januari 2017 sampai dengan 30 April 2019 terdapat  84 pasien dengan kasus preeklampsia dari 677 kasus yang masuk ke Ruang Kebidanan RSUD Batin Mangunang Kota Agung.  Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui  hubungan Antara Faktor Resiko Ibu Hamil dengan kejadian preeklamsi dan eklamsia Di RSUD Batin Mangunang  Kota Agung Kabupaten Tanggamus Tahun 2019.  Metode Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi ini adalah semua ibu hamil yang mengalami preeklampsi sebanyak 54 kasus untuk kasus dan 54 sampel untuk kontrol karena penelitian ini menggunakan perbandingan kasus 1:1.teknik sampling yang digunakan total sampling. Pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan lembar observasi dan analisa data yang digunakan adalah univariat dan bivariat dengan menggunakan uji chi-square. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa Distribusi frekuensi usia tidak berisiko sebanyak 66 orang (61,1%), paritas yang tidak berisiko sebanyak 60 orang (55.6%), responden dengan riwayat penyakit yang tidak berisiko sebanyak 81 orang (75,0%), pendidikan berisisiko (SD, SMP) sebanyak 54 orang (50.0%), pelayanan antenatal berisiko sebanyak 55 orang (50,9%), kejadian preeklampsia kasus sebanyak 54 orang (50%), sedangkan responden dengan preeklampsia kontrol sebanyak 54 orang (50%),  Kesimpulan Ada hubungan antara Faktor resiko ibu hamil berdasarkan umur pvalue = 0,001, paritas pvalue = 0,012 dan pelayanan antenatal pvalue= 0,007 dengan Kejadian pre eklamsia, tidak ada hubungan antara Faktor resiko ibu hamil berdasarkan pendidikan ibu pvalue = 0,847 dan riwayat Penyakit kronik pada ibu  pvalue = 182, dengan Kejadian pre eklamsia.  Saran Dapat dijadikan sebagai pengetahuan, informasi, dan referensi dalam penelitian selanjutnya terkait faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kejadian preeklampsia pada persalinan dengan menambahkan varibel yang berbeda dan menambahkan jumlah sampel dengan data primer.  Kata Kunci : Faktor Risiko kejadian preeklampsi

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Diabetes mellitus is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, imposing a considerable burden on health systems and societies as it affects both individuals and their families and has a large impact on the economic and social development of a country. <b><i>Objectives:</i></b> The purpose of this study was to study the prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes among the Dubai population and associations with diabetes risk factors. <b><i>Methodology:</i></b> A cross-sectional Diabetes Household Survey was carried out in the Emirates of Dubai during 2017 as a complementary stage of the Dubai Household Survey, 2014, which was a randomly selected, multistage, stratified, cluster survey. The sampling technique was selected to assess the rates of undiagnosed diabetes as well as the rates of pre-diabetes through screening with HbA1c. The size of the 2017 survey sample was estimated at 300 individuals for Emirati and 300 for non-Emirati. An additional 200 individuals were added to address non-response cases. These were added to those who were identified as diabetics in the 2014 Household Health Survey and then weighted to give a representative sample for the Dubai population. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The study revealed that the prevalence of diabetes in Dubai among UAE nationals was 19%, and it was 14.7% for expats. Consequently, the overall prevalence of diabetes in Dubai is 15.2%. Undiagnosed diabetes was 10% in UAE nationals and 10.9% in expats. Pre-diabetes in UAE national males was lower than in females, although this pattern was not observed among expats. Younger age, normal weight, and exercise were associated with lower rates of diabetes and pre-diabetes in UAE nationals and expats. Hypertension was associated with higher rates of diabetes regardless of nationality. <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> The study concluded that the prevalence of diabetes among the Dubai population is alarmingly high and that a large proportion of the population are not aware of their diagnosis. A higher prevalence of diabetes is associated with multiple factors, such as age, male gender, hypertension, higher BMI, lack of exercise, and lower level or no education, as well as a family history of diabetes mellitus. Many of these factors can be easily modified, which could lead to a decrease in the burden of the disease.
