The purpose of this review was to generalize and systematize the methodological and organizational approaches that have developed at present in diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis. We conducted a systematic search on Ovid MEDLINE (http://www.ovid.com/site/catalog/ DataBase/901.jsp), EMBASE (http://www.embase.com/), CINAHL (http://www.ebscohost.com/ cinahl/), Web of Science (www.isiknowledge.com/), ETOH (http://etoh.niaaa.nih.gov/) and AIM (http://www.aim-digest.com/gateway/m%20index.htm) to research epidemiological studies conducted in foreign countries and published from January 2008 to January 2018, which considered current issues of treatment and diagnostic organization for acute pancreatitis. The search was carried out using any combination of keywords: acute pancreatitis, organization, therapeutic and diagnostic process, severity assessment, methodological approaches, severity classifications, evaluation scales. In addition, we manually reviewed the content pages of the main epidemiological journals and lists of links to relevant publications in review articles. A database of 142 units from literary and information sources was created. The final analysis included 52 sources that reflect the methodological aspects of the treatment and diagnostic process for acute pancreatitis.

Objective The objective of this study was to systematically document current methods and protocols employed when using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) techniques in human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) research and generate recommendations for conducting and reporting fNIRS findings in HF/E applications. Method A total of 1,687 articles were identified through Ovid-MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, of which 37 articles were included in the review based on review inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results A majority of the HF/E fNIRS investigations were found in transportation, both ground and aviation, and in assessing cognitive (e.g., workload, working memory) over physical constructs. There were large variations pertaining to data cleaning, processing, and analysis approaches across the studies that warrant standardization of methodological approaches. The review identified major challenges in transparency and reporting of important fNIRS data collection and analyses specifications that diminishes study replicability, introduces potential biases, and increases likelihood of inaccurate results. As such, results reported in existing fNIRS studies need to be cautiously approached. Conclusion To improve the quality of fNIRS investigations and/or to facilitate its adoption and integration in different HF/E applications, such as occupational ergonomics and rehabilitation, recommendations for fNIRS data collection, processing, analysis, and reporting are provided.

A multidimensional analysis of the state of Russian studies on the education issues over 1993–2016 was carried out based on the materials of the data contained in the Web of Science (SSCI, A & HCI and SCI-E databases). There were determined the dynamics and trends of a number of relevant indicators, such as the number of Russian publications by year, the share of these publications in the global flow of publications on education issues, the dynamics of the share of publications made in co-authorship with foreign colleagues, etc. A number of distributions of Russian publications on educational issues was compiled and analyzed: by journals, by Russian regions and cities, by organizations and authors of the publications. It was found that most of these distributions were characterized by a high level of non-uniformity. A list of journals (125 titles) in which Russian works on education issues had been published was compiled. Russian organizations (308) and domestic researchers (about two thousand) engaged in studying the issues of education were identified. It was discovered that more than 200 organizations and about 400 academicians from 60 foreign countries had participated in Russian studies on the education issues.

Since December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) has been a worldwide pandemic with enormous consequences for human health and the world economy. Remdesivir is the only drug in the world that has been approved for the treating of COVID-19. This drug, as well as vaccination, still has uncertain effectiveness. Drug repurposing could be a promising strategy how to find an appropriate molecule: rapamycin could be one of them. The authors performed a systematic literature review of available studies on the research describing rapamycin in association with COVID-19 infection. Only peer-reviewed English-written articles from the world’s acknowledged databases Web of Science, PubMed, Springer and Scopus were involved. Five articles were eventually included in the final analysis. The findings indicate that rapamycin seems to be a suitable candidate for drug repurposing. In addition, it may represent a better candidate for COVID-19 therapy than commonly tested antivirals. It is also likely that its efficiency will not be reduced by the high rate of viral RNA mutation.

Metabolomics investigates a broad range of small molecules, allowing researchers to understand disease-related changes downstream of the genome and proteome in response to external environmental stimuli. It is an emerging technology that holds promise in identifying biomarkers and informing the practice of precision medicine. In this review, we summarize the studies that have examined endogenous metabolites in patients with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) or mass spectrometry (MS) and were published through 26 January 2021. A standardized protocol was used for extracting data from full-text articles identified by searching OVID Medline ALL, OVID Embase, OVID Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and BIOSIS Citation Index in Web of Science. Thirty-two studies were identified, investigating various sample matrices and employing a wide variety of methods for each step of the metabolomics workflow. The vast majority of studies identified metabolites, mostly amino acids and lipids that may be associated with psoriasis diagnosis and activity. Further exploration is needed to identify and validate metabolomic biomarkers that can accurately and reliably predict which psoriasis patients will develop psoriatic arthritis, differentiate psoriatic arthritis patients from patients with other inflammatory arthritides and measure psoriatic arthritis activity.

Background: A novel, rapid and specific multiplex polymerase chain reaction was developed to diagnose hemo-parasitic infection in bovine blood co-infected with three of the most common hemo-parasites. Methods: The diagnostic process relied on the detection of the three different bovine hemoparasites isolated from red blood cells (RBCs) of cattle (N=30) by conventional Giemsa stained blood smear (GSBS) and confirmed by multiplex PCR. The multiplex PCR system was used to diagnose GSBS positive blood samples (N=12) found infected or co-infected with hemoparasites. The designed multiplex primer sets was attempted to amplify 205, 313 and 422 bp fragments of apocytochrome b, sporozoite and macroschizont 2 (spm2) and 16S rRNA gene for Babesia bigemina, Theileria annulata and Anaplasma marginale, respectively. Result: This multiplex PCR was sensitive with the ability to detect the presence of 150 ng of genomic DNA. The primers used in this multiplex PCR also showed highly specific amplification of specific gene fragments of each respective parasite. Comparing the two detection methods revealed that 58.33% of specimens showed concordant diagnoses with both techniques. The specificity, positive predictive value and kappa coefficient of the agreement was highest for diagnosis of B. bigemina and lowest for A. marginale. The overall Kappa coefficient for diagnosis based on GSBS for multiple pathogens compared to multiplex PCR was 0.56, slightly behind the threshold of 0.6 of agreement. Therefore, confirmation should always be based on PCR to rule out false positives due to differences in subjective observations, stain particles and false negatives due to low parasitemia. The simplicity and rapidity of this specific multiplex PCR method make it suitable for large-scale epidemiological studies and follow-up of drug treatments.

Abstract Falls constitute a multitude of injuries irrespective of age. To combat these challenges, older adults are encouraged to engage in recreational activities. Yoga has been identified as an effective physical activity to promote mobility and balance for older adults. This study aims to systematically review the literature about yoga as a fall prevention intervention and synthesize the outcomes. Major databases (Ovid Medline & CINAHL) were searched for relevant articles. Studies were included if they met the criteria of 1) being a face to face yoga program, 2) aimed to recruit participants 50 years or older, and 3) reported at least one fall-related outcome (e.g., balance, mobility, fear of falling) as a result of the yoga program. 57 studies were identified: 32 from Ovid Medline and 25 from CINAHL. After removing the duplicates and applying a strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 articles were included in the final analysis. A detailed synthesis of the results will be presented and quality assessment of included articles will be performed using the Modified Downs and Black checklist which appraises the methodological quality of both randomized and non-randomized studies. More research is needed to understand the impact of yoga in preventing falls among older adults at least 50 years of age. Additionally, research should establish a gold standard index that identifies which specific yoga programs ( based on type- individual vs. group; hatha, iyengar, kundalini, ashtanga, and etc.; frequency, and duration) have an enhanced effect on fall prevention.
