The purpose of this study was to investigate the problem-solving skills (PSS) and chemistry learning experiences (LE) of teacher candidates. 191 pre-service chemistry teacher (130 women, 61 men) were taken as the research sample using the purposive random sampling technique. The research design used a cross-sectional survey with focus group interviews. The quantitative data obtained were analyzed using the MANOVA test and while the interview data using the Patton analysis technique. The research findings show that: 1) the level of the chemistry learning experience of pre-service chemistry teacher (LE) is higher than the ability of problem-solving skills (PSS); 2) the level of ability of female chemistry teacher candidates for PSS and LE was found to be higher than that of males; (3) there are differences in PSS and LE based on grades levels, but there is no difference based on gender; 4) there is a difference in PSS and LE between freshman, sophomore, and junior grades. The findings of the interview are relevant to the results of the survey which proved that male and female students both have positive attitudes towards chemistry, however, it was found that there were differences in PSS and LE between grade level (1stgrade, 2stgrade, 3st grade). Thus, it is suggested that the learning process in universities prioritizes the development of LE and PSS in chemistry learning so as to improve the soft skills and academic achievement of prospective chemistry teachers.

Background: Tibiofemoral angle (TFA) and quadriceps angle (QA) are important in the evaluation of patients with knee pathologies associated with these angles. Objectives: This study investigated correlations among TFA, QA and body mass index (BMI) among Nigerian adolescent population. Methods: A total of 519 (262 males and 257 females) adolescents aged between 10-18 years selected by stratified random sampling technique from some randomly selected schools in Nnewi metropolis. This study utilised the cross-sectional survey design. A height meter and bathroom weighing scale were used to collect data for BMI while a universal plastic goniometer was used to measure TFA and QA. Independent t- test, paired t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used to analyse the data obtained. Results: Findings of this study showed there was significant difference between right and left QA of males (t= 2.824; p= 0.005), and females (t= -2.012; p= 0.045) with the right QA been higher than the left in both males and females. Males have a higher TFA and QA (p<0.05 in all cases) than females. A significant negative correlation was found between BMI and right TFA (p=0.034), and between TFA and QA (p= <0.0001). Conclusion: TFA positively significantly correlated with QA, with males having higher QA and TFA than females. The obtained information is important in the assessment and management of knee pathologies associated with these angles. Keywords: Tibiofemoral angle; quadriceps angle; body mass index; selected adolescent population.

The aim of this study was to find out motivation for occupational preference among Regional Maritime University students. The cross-sectional survey design was chosen for the study and the stratified sampling technique was used to select a sample of 305 students from three departments constituting major programmes of study. Motivation for Occupational Preference Scale was used to gather data from the sampled population. The Independent samples t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data gathered. Results showed that, extrinsic values influenced occupational preference more than intrinsic values, both Ghanaian and International students were influenced equally by extrinsic factors in their preference for occupation, there was no significant gender difference in the influence of extrinsic factors on occupational preference and there was a significant difference in the intrinsic factors that influence occupational preference among students from different programmes. It is therefore recommended that, regular career guidance and counselling sessions are held at various levels of education to inform and educate students especially at the university on the benefits of career preference based on intrinsic factors than solely on extrinsic factors. In conclusion students must be encouraged to assess their vocational interest or career preference so that they pursue programmes and courses that they have the natural inclination for and not only make a choice of vocation or career just for extrinsic values or rewards.
