Intrauterine Device (IUD) is one type of contraceptives that is made from flexible plastic and implanted in the uterus. The IUD is included as a long-term contraception which is very effective in regulating the distance of pregnancy, is reversible, and can be worn by women of all reproductive ages. Therefore, the government is doing all kinds of effort to the number of IUD users. Surprisingly, the number of women using the IUD has kept decreasing every year. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the low use of IUD contraception in East Java in 2015. The data were obtained from the Mid-term Development Plan Survey in 2015 by taking a sample from all the women who were willing to be interviewed in the Mid-term Development Plan Survey in East Java Province with the following characteristics: being 15–49 years of age, being married, not getting pregnant, and were still using contraceptions. There were 1,220 respondents who could be interviewed. The result of binary regression testing with a significant degree of 5% yielded three significant variables, namely age (P-value = 0.002), education (P-value = 0.000), and birth control service (P-value = 0.000). Healthy women who were around 15–19 years old, had low education, and had limitted access to private birth control services tended to avoid the IUD contraception more. Therefore, it is expected that the government is making cooperation with the related sectors in an attempt to increase the use of IUD contraceptives in the East Java Province in 2015 with more emphases on age, education and birth control service locations.

Abstract Background South Korea established universal long-term care insurance (LTCI) in 2008. However, actual requests for LTCI remain lower than government estimates because some eligible candidates never apply despite their strong care needs. This study aimed to examine factors affecting LTCI applications for older, community-dwelling Koreans. Methods Both individual- and community-level data were obtained from a national dataset from the Korea Health Panel Survey and the Korea National Statistical Office (N = 523). Data were analyzed using multilevel modeling. Results Only 16.4% of older adults in need of care applied for LTCI. Those who applied were more likely to be older, report poor self-rated health, receive care from non-family caregivers, and have caregivers experiencing high levels of caregiving burden. Regional differences in LTCI applications existed concerning the financial condition of one’s community. Conclusions Our study findings emphasize that Korean LTCI should implement both individual and community strategies to better assist older adults in properly acquiring LTCI. The government should make comprehensive efforts to increase access to LTCI in terms of availability, quality, cost, and information by collaborating with local centers.

Subject Zimbabwe economic outlook. Significance On November 26 Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa presented the 2016 budget articulating the government's IMF-backed plan to clear the backlog of external debt arrears to international creditors. The aim is to normalise relations with Western donors after 15 years of isolation. The government faces a deepening employment crisis, an unfunded development plan and deflationary risks. Impacts The Labour Amendment Bill adopted in August will raise labour costs and discourage job creation. Some deals signed during Xi's visit such as funding for fibre optic broadband may improve long-term competitiveness. However, others such as an agreement for a new Chinese-built parliament will add to the debt load.

Despite multiple options for contraception, choices are limited with low satisfaction among clients in low resource countries. Effective counseling may improve satisfaction and compliance if adequately pursued. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of counseling on contraceptive choices and its associated factors. This was a prospective, descriptive study involving consenting family planning clients at the family planning clinic of a tertiary hospital in Ilorin, Nigeria. All participants completed an interviewer administered questionnaire designed for the study. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 21.0 (IBM, USA) and p value <0.05 was significant. Among the 260 participants, the mean age was 30.3±5.7 years, mean parity 3.0±1.0 and modal age 20–39years (93.5%). The commonest preferred contraceptive pre- and post-counseling was intrauterine device (36.5% vs. 53.5%); increased post-counseling desire was reported for injectables (28.8% vs. 35.4%) and implant (0% vs. 3.1%). Preferences increased post-counseling for highly effective methods (38.1% vs. 60.4%; p<0.0001), long term methods (38.1% vs. 60.4%; p<0.0001) and permanent methods (1.5% vs. 3.8%; p<0.001). Significant predictor of contraceptive choice precounseling was level of education (p=0.032) and parity (p<0.001) post-counseling. The study shows that counseling can improve choices, encourage satisfaction and possibly enhance compliance among contraceptive clients.Journal of Medical and Biomedical Sciences (2017) 6(3), 1 - 6

The use of MKJP in Indonesia has decreased every year from 13.7% in 1991 to 10.6% in 2012 (Ministry of Health, 2013). In 2013, based on a mini survey of the Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), the coverage of MKJP in Indonesia was only 12.4% with a percentage based on the type of method, namely KB implants (5.2%), IUD (Contraceptive Devices in the Womb) / Intrauterine Device (IUD) (4.7%), and Women's Operations Method (MOW) (2.2%), whereas the expected MKJP target is 26.7%. This research is descriptive analytic, conducted to determine factors related to the interest in using MKJP (IUD Implants) in Perigi Mekar Village in 2016. The number of samples in this study were 104 people. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Of the 9 variables studied, 2 variables showed a significant relationship with the interest in using the MKJP is income with a p value of 0.018, and discussions with a partner with a p value of 0.024. From the above statement it can be concluded that the amount of income and the frequency of discussions with partners influences the interest in using the MKJP. It is expected that community leaders can work together with local health workers so that they can provide counseling to the community regarding long-term contraceptive methods. Keyword : Contraception, MKJP, IUD, Implant

Background: Current evidence on the effect of anesthetic-ECT time interval (AETI) is controversial. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the time interval between propofol injection and electro-convulsion induction and the relationship between these factors and the duration of convulsion. Methods: In this study, 102 patients (616 sessions of ECT) were studied. Demographic and clinical data (age, gender, receiving or not receiving medications that affected the seizure threshold, the total number of ECT sessions, clinical severity of admission scores, clinical diagnosis, propofol dose, seizure duration, and AETI) were collected in special forms and analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. Results: Sessions with long-term AETI had longer seizure time than sessions with short-term AETI (33.47 ± 8.46 vs. 28.68 ± 9.74, P value < 0.05). The duration of seizures was significantly longer in the group with long AETI in sessions 1, 2, and 4 than in the other group (P value < 0.05). There was a significant relationship between the duration of seizures and propofol dose, AETI, and receiving drugs effective in the seizure threshold (P value < 0.05). Conclusions: The results showed that increasing AETI and injecting a lower dose of propofol to induce anesthesia would increase the duration of seizures. Also, taking medications that would affect the seizure threshold reduces the duration of seizures.
