The implementation of modern information technologies in education presents a promising direction of the pedagogical science since it makes it possible to prove educational services through a specialized information educational environment – a combination of information resources, technical devices, and telecommunication channels enabling the exchange of educational information at a distance. The goal of the present study is to analyze and identify the opportunities of the Moodle platform in education as a whole and in studying English at a university in particular. The methodological basis of the study is formed by the analysis of the experience of teachers of the Department of English Language, the methods of teaching English, and a survey of experts in the area. Using the Moodle platform in the process of teaching future English teachers allows both teachers and students to easily exchange files, carry out personal communication, and receive feedback. The presented electronic course allows teachers to create their own e-learning courses in foreign languages.

International (operational and training) activities carried out by law enforcement officers have been accompanied by the growing realisation of the fact that it is essential for those involved in them to communicate efficiently, in one common language, basically English. However, even in the last few years, the gaps between the foreign language skills of the law enforcement professionals and the need for further foreign (mainly English) language training courses have been underlined several times in international professional and legal documents. Also, the fact that specific-purpose English language courses continue to be important content elements of the curricula both of national law enforcement training institutions and the two largest EU agencies involved in the training of police officers, as well as border and coast guards (CEPOL and Frontex), proves that this problem still exists. Using the qualitative research and providing an overview and evaluation of the most significant e-learning trends and tools used in teaching English for Law Enforcement by CEPOL and Frontex in the last decade, the paper discusses the progress made in this field in terms of both quality and methodology. It presents technical limitations of certain e-learning tools and points to the course developers’ ensuing realisation that the virtual or real presence of the teacher is indispensable in language courses.

English language teachers customarily rule out the use of mother tongue for teaching English. Reflecting on the theoretical underpinnings and empirical research on the use of mother tongue (L1) in English classroom and its ongoing debate the present study aims to explore teachers’ and students’ perceptions of it. A mixed method approach using questionnaire and interview is employed to analyze Bangladeshi university teachers’ and students’ belief and perceptions of teaching English with the help of L1. The study also attempts to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of using L1. Results indicate that both teachers and students perceive the necessity of judicious use of L1 to facilitate learning and acquisition of English as a foreign language (EFL).

Teaching English without any instructional materials may be difficult or even impossible. There are lots of materials which facilitate both the teachers and students in language teaching and learning. As with other teaching materials and resources, journal articles are also an important source for language teaching. Taking this into account, this article tries to explore how EFL teachers perceive the value of journal articles and how they use them in their classrooms. More specifically, the article tries to explore whether and to what extent journal articles can be used as instructional materials, and what strategies teachers employ to use journals articles to enhance language proficiency of their students.Journal of NELTA ,  Vol. 22, No. 1-2, 2017 December, Page: 110-116

In the transition to digital technologies, the pedagogical community needs a fundamentally different methodological basis of education, it is necessary to radically update the goals, content, forms, methods and means of education, taking into account the flow of information and communication processes in which modern youth grows. The article notes a number of positive and negative aspects of e-learning, present's different opinions of scientists on the use of digital technologies in the educational process. The practice of introduction of e-learning has shown that this system of training raises a number of new problems arising from the insufficient volume of joint creative work of students with a teacher. Electronic network technologies provide great opportunities in the organization of joint activities of teachers and students, individualization of the educational process, the transformation of learning into self-learning and self-education, allow the organization of interactive classes and collective teaching, as well as various forms of control. The basis of one of these technologies is the method of projects. The article describes in detail the features of the use of the method of projects in the educational process. Design technology involves reliance on the principles, norms and rules of design, the totality of which allows you to organize the activities of the student from the idea to its practical implementation. One of the activities in the use of Internet technologies is an educational network project. The article describes the principles of using educational network projects. A distinctive feature of the educational space in the information society – is the requirement of training in cooperation and cooperation. These requirements can be implemented through educational network projects. Applying information technologies in the educational process, special attention should be paid to Web 2.0 services and cloud technologies. Network technologies open up fundamentally new opportunities for accelerated individual development of each student.

The school’s task is to motivate and activate students to learn and work on themselves. Unfortunately, we still have too many teaching elements and unambitious tasks at school. That is why modern school education needs another transformation, which is forced by digital media, modern information technologies and related media convergence processes. A contemporary school should develop the passions and interests of its students. The digital environment cannot be underestimated, as it is an attractive non-school place for adolescents. In the article I present the theoretical outline of the concept of convergence and describe key forms of convergence. I conduct discourse in the area “Contemporary school versus media convergence” and present the results of my own research on the preparation of teachers and students to operate in the era of media convergence.

The purposeof the study is to assess the readiness of the Russian higher education system to move to the digital level based on the statistical researches of education. The way to the digital economy becomes decisive in the development of Russian education and covers all its stages. Within the framework of the state program “Education development” the project “Modern Digital Educational Environment” is being realized, for the secondary education the “Digital School” project is being developed, and in the program of development of the digital economy a separate direction “Personnel and Education” is emphasized. Digitalization of education becomes the next stage after the informatization stage in the technological development of education. It is necessary to assess the current level of informatization of higher education.Materials and methods of research. The presented study of the assessment of the readiness of Russian higher education to the digital economy is based on the methodology, proposed by the World Bank, which includes an assessment of five groups of indicators: the use of information technology in the learning process; training of teaching staff for the use of information technology in education; informatization of education management; information infrastructure of higher education; normative and legal support of the digitalization of education. The methodology includes the combination and interpretation of the different statistical data because the appropriate study of digitalization of education requires the specific approach. The factual basis of the research is the data of official statistics and universities. The results, on the one hand, indicate a high level of provision of universities with personal computers and access to the Internet, and on the other hand, a lack of automation of the administrative and educational processes of the university. Despite the constant development of technologies and the emergence of new educational web tools, and a multi-year state policy on the information educational space formation, its potential is partly used by universities. Only one third of university students are trained using e-learning or distance education technologies. At the same time, non-state educational institutions provide most of the educational services available to online listeners. In general, the share of online education in the market of educational services is low and is 1.8% for higher education programs and 6.7% for additional professional education. 82% of students, enrolled in programs with exclusive use of e-learning are students of non-state universities. The use of technology, even in the form of blended learning, in addition to the corresponding IT infrastructure, requires the appropriate training of lecturers and students. The training of lecturers in the use of IT in education, including training directly to work with IT, should be supplemented by teaching methodical work in the information educational space.Conclusion. The study shows that the Russian education system has created the necessary reserve for the creation of IT infrastructure, regulatory support, and best practices in the field of IT application in the educational process, which should become the basis for the participation of Russian universities in the digital economy. At the same time, the differences between information technologies (IT) and digital are not obvious, in many respects, these concepts are identical, differences arise when considering the totality of the information technologies and resources involved. Digitalization assumes that practically all the computing devices are involved in information support, including consumers, who, for example, install mobile applications in order to use the services. Involving a large number of devices with the ability to connect to the Internet allows you to organize the collection and processing of a large amount of digital data. The basis of digitalization is the created IT infrastructure and the degree of informatization in educational institutions.
