The purpose of the paper is to analyze a deformation mechanism of the mine degassing pipelines to forecast their spatial changes in terms of intensification of underground mining of coal-gas seams. Methodology. The paper deals with expert assessment of the available approaches to diagnostics of technical condition of mine degassing pipelines, which are constructed within the in-seam underground mine workings with the floor rocks prone to heaving. The results of scheduled surveying measurements of technical condition of in-seam development workings have helped identify the potentially hazardous zones of rock mass deformation and indices of changes in spatial location of section degassing pipelines mounted in those mine workings. To determine the operating modes of a degassing pipeline under such operating conditions, a computer model of interaction of the elements of transport-technological system “mine gas pipeline – mine working” has been developed Findings. Diagnostics of technical conditions of the mine gas transmission lines and examination of their dismantled components have helped understand that deflections, mainly resulting in water accumulation zones, intensive corrosion of internal pipe walls, and mechanical depositions of coal and rock dust take place right within the flange connection areas. Formation of such zones is argued by health of the degassing pipeline as well as mine air inflow. Availability of internal corrosion, water accumulations, and mine air inflow decreases substantially capacity of the underground gas transmission line inclusive of qualitative characteristics of the captured methane-air mixture and efficiency of MDS on the whole. Originality. New approaches to diagnostics of technical condition of mine degassing gas pipeline in difficult mining and geological conditions of development of gas-bearing coal seams are substantiated and it is offered to consider indicators of their functioning as interacting in space and time transport-technological system "mine gas pipeline - mining". Practical implications. The operational parameters of mine degassing systems notes that the equipment performance with the least underpressure losses created by vacuum pipes requires that the degassing pipeline should have minimum hydraulic resistance of the gas transmission network. Pipeline aeration from the mine workings and water accumulations should be prevented by means of qualitative hermetic sealing of its flange connections as well as the pipeline straightness with the corresponding pitches. Consequently, the basic requirements for operating mine degassing pipelines involve their design profile, tightness of flange connections of pipes as well as operative control of the facility health.

Reliance Gas Pipelines Limited (RGPL) is currently implementing a gas pipeline project from Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh to Phulpur, Uttar Pradesh for evacuation of gas produced from Coal Bed Methane (CBM) blocks owned by Reliance Industries Ltd. This pipeline will be hooked up with GAIL’s HVJ Pipeline at Phulpur. Over all Pipeline system includes 312 km (approx.) long trunk line, and associated facilities such as Compressor Station at Shahdol, Intermediate Pigging facilities, Metering & Regulating facilities at Phulpur and 12 No. Mainline valve stations. Gas produced from CBM blocks will be dehydrated within Gas Gathering Station facilities of CBM Project located upstream of pipeline Compressor station at Shahdol. Gas received at pipeline battery limit is dry and non-corrosive gas in nature, Internal corrosion is not expected in normal course of operation, however internal corrosion of the natural gas pipeline can occur when the pipe wall is exposed to moisture and other contaminants either under process upset conditions or under particular operating conditions. Even though internal corrosion is not expected during normal course of operations, to take care of any eventuality, it is proposed to implement Internal Corrosion Monitoring (ICMS) system in this project. ICMS will provide an efficient and reliable means of continuous monitoring internal corrosion. Internal Corrosion Monitoring (ICMS) system is used as a part of overall integrity management framework; to achieve two objectives viz., verify the corrosive behaviour of gas and to verify the efficacy of applied preventive actions. Philosophy involved in evaluating a suitable CM technique would include : • Applicable corrosion damage mechanisms, anticipated corrosion rates and probable locations. • Suitable CM technique and location based on process condition, system corrosivity, water content, pigging facilities, available corrosion allowance, design life, maintenance etc., • Measurement frequency. Some of the Corrosion Monitoring techniques used for pipeline and of relevance are: • Weight-loss Corrosion Coupons (CC), • Electrical Resistance probes (ER), • Linear Polarization Resistance Probe (LPR) • Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UT) • Sampling Points (SP) This paper discusses the merits / demerits of these corrosion monitoring techniques, considerations for selecting a specific technique for the Shahdol – Phulpur Gas Pipeline Project and highlights the implementation of the internal corrosion monitoring system.

The purpose is to develop the calculation methods for minimizing the load on the fastening system of the preparatory mine working in difficult mining and geological conditions of its maintenance. Methods. By analysing the multivariate computational experiments on the study of the stress-strain state of the load-bearing elements of the ‘massif – support’ system in the preparatory mine workings by means of the finite-element method, as well as mine observations and measurements of displacement in the coal-overlaying rock formation. Findings. An algorithm has been developed for searching the rational modes of the fastening system resistance and methods for minimizing the load on the support of the preparatory mine working, maintained in very complex mining and geological conditions. Originality. The methodical principles have been developed of minimizing the load on the fastening system of the preparatory mine working, which are based on the use of a combination of stress-strain state studies of the ‘massif – support’ system by means of the finite element method and provisions of normative documents for calculating the dimensions of the dome of natural equilibrium of the mine working roof rocks. Practical implications. The operation modes optimisation of the load-bearing elements interaction of the mine working fastening system reduces the material and labour costs during its construction and increases its stability during operation. Keywords: analysis, calculation, optimization, support, preparatory mine working, stope works, roof rocks, collapse

Purpose. Substantiation of the methodology for predicting the state of mine workings based on the study on geomechanical processes when assessing the consequences of mine closure taking into account the entire period of their existence, during which the development of displacement with various intensity occurs in the surrounding coal-bearing mass. Methodology. The study is based on methods of analysis and synthesis, methods of comparison, abstraction, analogy, calculation and construction. The methods of mine tool observations of the manifestations of rock pressure and their processing by methods of correlation and dispersion analysis for establishing the relationship of displacements of the mine working contour with geomechanical factors were used. Findings. A possibility of stage-by-stage decommissioning of mine workings when grouping mining-and-geological conditions is substantiated. An example of calculating the displacements in a mine working during its decommissioning is presented. The given calculation expressions make it possible to assess the mine working state, taking into consideration the patterns of the geomechanical factor influence on making a technical decision on the expediency of its further operation. Originality. The patterns of the rock pressure manifestation development in sequentially abandoned mine workings have been determined. Based on the methods of correlation-dispersion analysis, the dependence of the mine working contour displacements on geomechanical factors have been revealed throughout the entire period of its existence. Practical value. A methodology for assessing the state of mine workings at the time of their decommissioning has been developed, which is an integral part of the recommendations to limit the negative influence of mine closure. The peculiarity of the methodology is in taking into account the entire period of mine workings existence, which leads to a well-grounded technical decision on the possibility of dismantling the metal structures with the complete exclusion of emergency situations.

Thin spray-on liner (TSL) is a surface protection technology used by spraying a polymer film, which is widely used for mine airtightness and waterproofing. A reinforcing TSL can replace steel mesh, which is a new method for roadway support. This paper reviews the development of a reinforcing TSL. Considering the deterioration of geological conditions in deep underground mining and the demand for reinforcing automation, two kinds of polymeric reinforcing TSL (RPTSL) materials are developed. The mechanical characteristics of the new TSL materials are studied experimentally. Results show that the average compressive strength, tensile strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle of the two TSL materials are 52 and 32 MPa, 12 and 8 MPa, 6.2 and 17.2 MPa, and 33.6° and 25.9°, respectively. The bonding strength between the two materials and coal is greater than the tensile strength of coal itself, and the mechanical properties of the material for comparison are lower than those of both materials. Based on the TSL support mechanism, we examine the application of the two TSL materials to the mining environment and compare the mechanical properties of polymer materials and cement-based materials. The advantages of polymer materials include versatile mechanical properties, good adhesion, and high early strength. This study provides a new support material to replace steel mesh for roadway surface support, which satisfies the needs of different surface support designs under complex geological conditions, and promotes the automation of roadway support.

This paper proposes two solutions based on angle diversity receivers (ADRs) to mitigate inter-cell interference (ICI) in underground mining visible light communication (VLC) systems, one of them is a novel approach. A realistic VLC system based on two underground mining scenarios, termed as mining roadway and mine working face, is developed and modeled. A channel model based on the direct component in line-of-sight (LoS) and reflections of non-line-of-sight (NLoS) links is considered, as well as thermal and shot noises. The design and mathematical models of a pyramid distribution and a new hemi-dodecahedral distribution are addressed in detail. The performances of these approaches, accompanied by signal combining schemes, are evaluated with the baseline of a single photo-diode in reception. Results show that the minimum lighting standards established in both scenarios are met. As expected, the root-mean-square delay spread decreases as the distance between the transmitters and receivers increases. Furthermore, the hemi-dodecahedron ADR in conjunction with the maximum ratio combining (MRC) scheme, presents the best performance in the evaluated VLC system, with a maximum user data rate of 250 Mbps in mining roadway and 120 Mbps in mine working face, received energy per bit/noise power of 32 dB and 23 dB, respectively, when the bit error rate corresponds to 10 − 4 , and finally, values of 120 dB in mining roadway and 118 dB in mine working face for signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio are observed in a cumulative distribution function.

Abstract Underground extraction of coal is characterized by high variability of mining and geological conditions in which it is conducted. Despite ever more effective methods and tools, used to identify the factors influencing this process, mining machinery, used in mining underground, work in difficult and not always foreseeable conditions, which means that these machines should be very universal and reliable. Additionally, a big competition, occurring on the coal market, causes that it is necessary to take action in order to reduce the cost of its production, e.g. by increasing the efficiency of utilization machines. To meet this objective it should be pro-ceed with analysis presented in this paper. The analysis concerns to availability of utilization selected mining machinery, conducted using the model of OEE, which is a tool for quantitative estimate strategy TPM. In this article we considered the machines being part of the mechanized longwall complex and the basis of analysis was the data recording by the industrial automation system. Using this data set we evaluated the availability of studied machines and the structure of registered breaks in their work. The results should be an important source of information for maintenance staff and management of mining plants, needed to improve the economic efficiency of underground mining.

The article examines approaches to determine the threshold values of the concentration of wear debris in used cylinder oil that characterize the transition of a ship crosshead diesel engine unit under test from one technical condition to another. It is shown that the existing methods do not take into account the individual characteristics and technical condition of the parts of the cylinder-piston group. To solve the problem of tribodiagnostics, it is proposed to use the developed simulation model, which allows modeling the wear process of the cylinder bushing and piston rings of a marine diesel engine and, based on the obtained results, determining the concentration of wear products issued in the used cylinder oil at different wear rates of the moving parts. The data on the actual concentration of wear products in the used cylinder oil are subsequently correlated with the simulation model results, which makes it possible to evaluate the technical condition of the parts of the engine cylinder-piston group. The article presents the results of modeling of threshold values determination of the concentration of wear products in used cylinder oil, that measure the transition of a marine diesel engine from a working condition to a malfunctioning technical condition. Practical recommendations are given on choosing threshold values for the concentration of wear products in used cylinder oil for various types of marine crosshead diesel engines and their operating conditions.
