This study aimed to determine the effect of rice bran (DP) and industrial waste beer or beer dregs (AB) with different ratios on TDN local sheep ration and to know the optimal level of provision. Sheep were used in this study were male local sheep weighing 15 kg ± 1.5 kg as much as 12 heads. Treatment ration consists of forage and concentrates with a ratio of 60%: 40% (in DM) in the form of grass king, DP and AB. The design used in this study is a Completely Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with three treatments and four replications. Treatment applied is P1 = 60% Grass King + 29% DP + 9% AB + 2% Premix, P2 = 60% Grass King + 19% DP + 19% AB + 2% Premix, P3 = 60% Grass King + 9 % DP + 29% AB + 2% Premix. Variables measured are nutrients (crude protein = PK, extract ether = LK, crude fiber = SK and Nitrogen free extract = BETN) can be digested. The results showed that PKdd and LKdd strongly influenced (P <0.01) by the ratio of DP and AB. The use of DP and AB ratio of 19%: 19% and 9% DP AB : 29% highly significant to increase PKdd and LKdd (PK ss: 6.71 vs 7.64; 8.12 and the LKdd: 4:07 vs 4:27; 4:36). While carbohydrates are composed of SKdd and BETNdd did not influenced by differences in the ratio of DP and AB. The use of rice bran and the dregs of beer at local male sheep give the best TDN value at the level of 19% and 19% rice bran and industrial waste beer or beer dregs.

EFFECT OF SUBSTITUTION OF RICE BRAN WITH COFFEE HUSK MEAL IN THE DIET ON DRY MATTER AND CRUDE FIBER DIGESTIBILITY OF GROWING PIGS. An experiment was conducted todetermine the effects of substitution of rice bran with coffee husk meal in the diets on dty matter and crude fiber digestibility of growing pigs. The present study was conducted for 60 days, using 20 castrated male Duroc X Spotted Poland China, aged 2,5-3,0months with an averaged body weight of 30,1-40,0 kg. Treatment diets were formulated as follow: R0 = 25% rice bran + 0% coffee husk meal (without coffee husk meal); R1 = 18.75% rice bran + 6.25% coffee husk meal (substituion of 25%); R2 = 12.5% rice bran + 12.5% coffee husk meal (substituion of 50%); R3 = 6.25% rice bran + 18.75% coffee husk meal (substitution of 75%); and R4 = 0% rice bran + 100% coffee husk meal (substituion of 100%). Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications (blocks) was used as a statistical analysis (Anova). An Orthogonal Contrast test was further employed to analyze treatment differences. Different between treatment(s) was declared at P < 0.05. Parameters measured were dry matter and crude fiber digestibility. Research results showed that the crude fiber digestibility increased significantly (P < 0.05) as the level of substitution of rice bran with coffee husk meal increased in the diets. Whereas, no significant differences (P > 0.05) were found among treatments on dry matter digestibility. It can be concluded that replacement of rice bran with coffee husk meal up to 100% or 25% in growing pigs diets positively increased crude fiber digestibility and did not affect dry matter digestibility.Key words: Pigs, rice bran, coffe husk, dry matter and crude fiber digestibility

The objective of this work was to characterize the chemical properties of white oat (Avena sativa) caryopsis and to determine the adaptability and stability of cultivars recommended for cultivation in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The trials were carried out in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 crop seasons, in three municipalities: Augusto Pestana, Capão do Leão, and Passo Fundo. Fifteen cultivars were evaluated in a randomized block design, with four replicates. The contents of protein, lipid, and nitrogen-free extract were evaluated in the caryopsis. Cultivar performances for the measured characters varied according to location and year of cultivation. The cultivar URS Guapa showed high content of nitrogen-free extract and low contents of protein and lipid in the caryopsis. 'FAPA Louise' showed high content of lipid, whereas 'Albasul', 'UPF 15', and 'UPF 18' showed high content of protein and low content of nitrogen-free extract. There is no evidence of an ideal biotype for the evaluated characters, which could simultaneously show high average performance, adaptability to favorable and unfavorable environments, and stability.

ABSTRACT Coconut meal can be an affordable low-cost alternative to noble ingredients such as corn and soybean meal in sheep diets. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of coconut meal inclusions, when used as a corn and soybean meal replacement, on the intake, digestibility, and nitrogen balance of sheep diets. Twenty-four male Santa Inês lambs with body weights (BW) of 26.6 ± 3.2 kg were used in the study. The animals were housed in metabolic cages and distributed in a completely randomized block design, with three treatments and eight replications. The animals received a total mixed ratio of 30% roughage (elephant grass) and 70% concentrate. The animals were fed on two experimental diets with 11% and 22% coconut meal inclusion and a control diet (without coconut meal). Dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and non-fibrous carbohydrate (NFC) intake as a percentage of BW were negatively influenced by the inclusion of coconut meal. The ether extract (EE) intake increased but did not differ between the 11% and 22% coconut meal diets. Furthermore, the digestibility of DM, CP, EE, and ADF did not differ between the two evaluated diets. The inclusion of coconut meal reduced NDF digestibility and increased that of NFC. The level of inclusion of coconut meal in the diet must be based on the EE content in the meal; keeping the EE intake below 0.16% of the BW helped to avoid limited intake of feed.

The combination of consumer’s ongoing demand for chia (Salvia hispanica L.) alongside the increased demand for regionally produced food products provided the impetus for this study. Its aim was to test if a regional cultivation of new chia genotypes, which were adapted to day lengths greater than 12 hours, is feasible under Central European conditions. Therefore, three early flowering chia genotypes (Sahi Alba 914, W13.1, G8) were cultivated in a randomized block design at two experimental stations in Southwestern Germany (Ihinger Hof, Eckartsweier) over the course of two years (2015, 2016). Mean yields ranged from 100 to 1290 kg ha−1. Mucilage content ranged from 9.5% to 12.2%, while the crude protein content ranged from 17.2% to 25.0%. Crude oil content fell in the range of 30.9–33.7% and the PUFA:SAT ratio ranged from 4.0 to 9.4, whereas the omega6:omega3 ratio varied from 0.27 to 0.5. As chia seed yields surpassed yield levels obtained by their countries of origin and as quality parameters obtained, were in line with the genotypes cultivated in their countries of origin, it can be assumed that a regional chia production in Southwestern Germany offers great potential, being ecologically and economically profitable.
