Nursing students learn English language as specific purposes (ESP). They should be able to learn do communication in English to be a professional nurse. However, learning English was not an easy game to do. There will be some difficulties and adjustment along the learning process. Thus, the research is aimed at. A descriptive qualitative methodology as the foundation to investigate the obstacles in the learning process among Indonesian EFL nursing students and to examine the nursing students’ expectation in English learning process. Open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview would be the instruments to gain support some information. About 24 respondents and 3 of representatives of 7th semester nursing students would be the respondents. The result showed that besides grammar, structure, and tenses application, four skills implementation, lecturer’s effects, and institution’s regulations (curriculum management distribution, time schedule management, connection problem between staffs authority and lecturer) would be the major obstacles. Meanwhile, better communication among nursing institute stakeholders about schedule, time management, curriculum and modifying classroom activities could be the better expectation emerged to reduce the EFL nursing students’ obstacles. This research concluded that adjusting the regulation for the English subject curriculum and altering nursing students to encourage and motivate themselves to learn about English could change the outcome and situation to build pedagogical implication and to plan more comprehensive English learning activities.

Needs Analysis in the context of language-learning-teaching is an important process to design a certain course and syllabus. It helps course designers to set objectives, choose content, method of instruction, appropriate teaching aids, and classroom activities for different courses. This paper reports the perceptions of the researchers on the English language learning needs of the English undergraduate students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal, Pakistan. The data is based on the researchers’ personal experience and first-hand observation of the population as the researchers have been teaching in the target context for about a decade. Furthermore, the researchers have always been in discussion with their students and colleagues about the target students’ English learning needs, preferred learning styles, motivation in learning English, interest, strengths/weaknesses, and attitude toward English learning in the target setting. Learners’ assignments, exam answer sheets, and presentations have also been used is a source of data collection. A needs analysis model proposed by Hutchinson and Waters (1987) has been applied in order to analyze the data. The results show that the students lack well grammatical sentences, have poor spellings, capitalization problems, limited vocabulary, unaware of collocations, poor/slow reading comprehension, and lack of effective presentation skills. Furthermore, most of the students have a lack of involvement in classroom activities and feel shy about speaking the English language. It was reported that the provision of authentic material, interesting activities, suitable audio-visual aids, relevant texts, language labs, and other logistic arrangements can better help them in learning the English language. The findings demonstrate that the students wished to have a learner-centered-course that helps them excel in their academic life and learning the English language.

This research is a descriptive correlative study. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and relationship of English extracurricular activities (English Club) on the English learning achievement of nursing students. This research took place at the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The population in this study were all students of the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The samples are students of 2018/2019 who take part in English extracurricular activities as many as 50 students. Data collection methods in this study are the documentation and the questionnaire. Documentation is used to obtain data about the names and number of students who become research respondents. The questionnaire was used to find out students' opinions about English extracurricular activities. The data was analysed in term of percentage by using statistic descriptive SPSS 16.0 and Ms Excel 2013. The results of this study are the researchers found that the average value of students' perceptions reached 82.3% which means students strongly agree with the existence of English language extracurricular activities to support the improvement of their English learning achievement. The data is strengthened by the results of documentation of students' English grades. From the results of the analysis showed that English extracurricular activities proved to have an effect on students' English learning achievement.

This research discusses the form of modality and the meaning of modality in English learning process using role play method. This research discusses the form of modality and the meaning of modality in English learning process using role play method. Objective to describe the form of modality and to explain the meaning of modality. The form of modality that is used in speaking is deontic modality with the modal verbs such as “must, has to atau have to, should, can/could” and the meanings of modality which are found, are order/necessity modality and permission modality. Descriptive qualitative with equal pragmatic methods. The data were taken from the conversation of role play which contained modal verbs. The sampling of the research were used  randomly when the nursing students did role play of giving health education with diet program theme. firstly, the main form of modality in the conversation of role play using modal verb “can and will”. Secondly the meaning of modality which is often found in conversation of role play is deontic modality for asking permission. The nursing students are able to use English modal verbs correctly  in role play learning process.

The aim of this research was to develop English learning materials based on task-based learning in the form of handout for nursing study program students at STIKES Aufa Royhan Padangsidimpuan. In the development process, this research used to: 1) identify the needs of teaching/learning Englishof the students; 2) develop English learning materials based on task-based learning; 3) find out the experts’ judgments about the developed handout; 4) find out the users’ perceptions about the developed handout. Research method was Research and Development (R&D). ADDIE model used to develop the handout. The result of needs analysis indicated the students needed to learn English language use in the nursing context. Then appropriate handout of English for Nursing was developed based on the result of needs analysis. Based on the experts judgments and users’ perception, the developed handout are categorized valid, effective, and practical.

Learning in early childhood requires special understanding due to the character of children who are easily bored; particularly in case of English learning process that is not their mother tongue. One of children’s character is that they love all forms of games, so the game could be considered as one way to attract the their curiousity. Thus, game can be used as a medium for young learner especially in kindergarten to learn English. This paper provides an elaboration how to use a game to improve English learning process for young learner. The method of this study used Classroom Action Research. The game is Java-based and the content of the game is based on kindergarten curriculum that contains of some important basic aspects covered by English Language development aspect for kindergarten. To sum up, through game, the students of kindergarten feel fun and challenging to fulfill the the game, and in other side unconsciously they have learned English as well.

Language advising helps a language learner discover different ways of learning and enables him/her to make decisions for better learning. This paper reports on an inquiry conducted with one English language learner who had difficulty with vocabulary acquisition which led to a perceived lack of progress in learning. The main purpose of the research was to observe and interpret the experience of the learner in terms of how different teaching and learning strategies appeared to affect her vocabulary learning. Qualitative research instruments including a semi-structured interview and a diary were used for this study. The results showed an increase in the learner’s control over her vocabulary learning process which was likely facilitated by the incorporation of language advising strategies into individual private tutoring.

Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris siswa SD N 2 Arjasari Kecamatan Patrol Kabupaten Indramayu melalui Metode ‘Total Physical Response (TPR)’ Penelitian ini difokuskan pada bagaimana penerapan metode TPR dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi berbahasa Inggris secara aktif  bagi siswa sekolah dasar khususnya di Desa Arjasari. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Subjek penelitiannnya adalah Siswa Kelas IV SD N 2 Arjasari Patrol Indramayu. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi dan tes. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi dan tes objektif pilihan ganda.  Penelitian ini menerapkan teknik deskriptif kualitatif sebagai metode analisis datanya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan proses pembelajaran Siswa SD N 2 Arjasari  pada kemampuan berkomunikasi berbahasa Inggris secara aktif dengan penerapan metode ‘Total Physical Response’.  Peningkatan secara signifikan dapat dilihat pada kemampuan respon fisik siswa dengan melakukan  kegiatan-kegiatan berdasarkan pada perintah-perintah lisan yang diucapkan oleh guru. Selain itu, siswa juga mampu merespon dengan baik dan benar dengan melakukan gerakan-gerakan dan ucapan-ucapan  secara langsung atau spontan dari instruksi-instruksi guru dan temannya baik secara lisan maupun gerakan-gerakan yang diperagakan oleh guru dan temannya. Di samping itu, terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada kegiatan motorik siswa dalam komunikasi interaktif. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari kemahiran siswa dalam memilih kosa kata dan kemampuannya dalam berfikir dan merepon secara langsung dari instruksi yang diberikan sehingga kemampuan komunikasi Bahasa Inggris siswa dapat meningkat dengan baik. Dengan demikan, Metode ‘Total Physical Response’ dapat meningkatkan proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Siswa SD N 2 Arjasari Patrol Indramayu. Kata Kunci: proses pembelajaran, kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, total physical response   Abstract: The aim of this study was to improve the English learning process for students of SD N 2 Arjasari, Patrol District, Indramayu Regency through the 'Total Physical Response (TPR)' method. This research is focused on how the application of the TPR method in improving active communication skills in English for elementary school students, especially in Arjasari Village. The research method applied in this research is classroom action research. The research subjects were fourth grade students of SD N 2 Arjasari Patrol Indramayu. The data collection techniques used were observation and tests. The research instruments used in data collection were observation sheets and multiple-choice objective tests. This study applies a qualitative descriptive technique as a method of data analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant increase in the learning process of SD N 2 Arjasari students on their active communication skills in English with the application of the 'Total Physical Response' method. Significant improvement can be seen in the physical response abilities of students by carrying out activities based on verbal commands spoken by the teacher. In addition, students are also able to respond properly and correctly by making movements and utterances directly or spontaneously from the instructions of the teacher and their friends, both verbal instructions and movements demonstrated by the teacher and their friends. In addition, there was a significant increase in the students’ motoric activities in interactive communication. This can be seen from the students' proficiency in choosing vocabulary and their ability to think and respond directly to the instructions given so that students' English communication skills can improve well. Thus, the "Total Physical Response" method can improve the students’ English learning process at SD N 2 Arjasari Patrol Indramayu. Online-based learning or lecture is deemed as a new learning methodology among academics in this present era. This method involves a learning process in which lecturers and students could undergo lectures or courses without being present in the classroom.  One of the online applications that supports this method is Edmodo. This study aims to obtain data about the perception of students regarding the use of Edmodo in English language classes at Universitas Fajar. The method used in this study is descriptive study. The result showed that although it has drawbacks, Edmodo is considered as one of the most effective tools in supporting the learning process.

The study investigates students’ recognition, students’ preferences, and students’ reasons for learning platforms, tools, and activities in the Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) context. The intrinsic case study is used in the present study, which fully expected the quality of improvement and case evaluation can be carried out. The purposive sampling was used with 25 students of third-year class at a private university in West Java at English language education study program. In collecting the data, mixed questionnaire, participant classroom observation, and online semi-structured interview were distributed and conducted during the meetings, then analysed descriptively and thematically. The research findings point out that students positively responded to utilising Google Classroom for written synchronous and Zoom Cloud Meeting for virtual synchronous. To sum up, both platforms are recommended to be utilized in the online atmosphere for ERT. Further actions call for other researchers and educators to utilize them in classroom activities with similar backgrounds and problems. Besides, it is recommended for other researchers to conduct further studies related to the present field.

Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is of paramount importance in second or foreign language, in this case English, learning. Thus, it is necessary to figure out how a learner acquires English language in non-English speaking countries. This study was aimed at investigating how a female Syirian student living in Indonesia acquires English as her third language and how she enriches English vocabularies. This research was presented in qualitative approach. The participants were a Syrian female student, Louren Haidar, her parents, her friends and also her english teacher. To collect the data, observation, interview and documentation were conducted. The result of the study showed that Lauren acquired English mostly from classroom activities where her teachers played the biggest role. To enrich vocabularies Laured did some strategies such as Arabic-English translation, writing down the new words, and reading a lot. One of the hardest challenges she faced was pronuncing certain sounds in English such as /p/ and /b/, /v/ vs. /f/, /tʃ/ and /dʒ/ ch + j.
