Low understanding of sexual and reproductive health knowledge made adolescents unaware of the consequences of premarital sexual activity. This study aimed to describe the knowledge of sexual and reproductive health among youths in the state of Johor, in southern region of peninsular Malaysia.Materials and Methods: A crosssectional study was conducted in eleven health facilities in Johor state, Malaysia. The study samples were all youths who fulfilled study inclusion and exclusion criteria. The youths were assessed through a validated self-administered, anonymous questionnaire on sociodemographic background and 21 items of knowledge on sexual and reproductive health. Descriptive statistics were employed to present the findings. Results: There were 204 respondents involved in the study. The mean (±standard deviation) age of respondents was 21 years old (±1.9). Majority of them were female (60.7%) and Malay (89.1%). Most of the respondents had high level of education (secondary and tertiary levels) (98.5%). A small percentage of the respondents were smokers (18.6%), alcohol drinkers (7.5%), drug users (3.5%), and a smaller portion reported of having history of sexually molested (4%). This study found sexual exposure among subjects ranged from reading (35.3%) and watching pornographic materials (44%), imagining sex (18.2%), as well as masturbating (21.1%). As for level of knowledge on sexual and reproductive health, majority of our respondents had low level of knowledge on the domain of sexual activity and pregnancy, complication of premarital sexual activity, and contraception. Conclusion: As the involvement of youths in sexual activity is getting more prevalent, youth sexual and reproductive health should be prioritized in Malaysia. Public health campaigns need to focus on the positive aspects of healthy sexual relationships. The problem of maintaining the reproductive health of the population is acute. In order to determine the need, scope and direction of improving the reproductive health system of girls and adolescent girls, sociological studies were carried out on 400 parents of girls and 86 pediatricians. According to the results of a survey of parents, it was revealed that the parents of girls are convinced that sex education of children should be carried out mainly in the family, with the participation of health professionals and teachers. The interviewed parents of girls often have questions about reproductive health and behavior from their children and need to obtain objective and reliable information for the implementation of correct and timely sex education, but they do not have the opportunity to receive it in sufficient volume from doctors in a polyclinic or teachers. A study of the opinion of pediatricians on the level of their involvement in the process of protecting the reproductive health of girls revealed that pediatricians do not have enough time and resources to carry out high-quality and full-fledged preventive work on reproductive health and behavior with girls and their parents. As a result, the respondents agree on the need to improve the organization of reproductive health care for girls and adolescent girls by creating an electronic resource containing preventive information on reproductive behavior and reproductive health for girls and their parents.

ackground: There are knowledge problems related to puberty and health problems among adolescent girls so that they cannot be confident in effectively handling changes in their bodies during puberty as well as long-term reproductive health. Purpose: This study aims to systematically review the tendency for adolescent girls to feel comfortable in communicating about puberty and reproductive health with their families. Method: Systematic review is conducted in accordance with the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The search was conducted through PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct databases on English studies from 2016-2021 published date. Results: Adolescent girls feel free to discuss issues related to puberty such as the development of secondary sex characters, menarche, and menstruation with the mother due to feelings and gender-specific compatibility This is due to stigma and perceived taboos in sociocultural factors. Fluency in communication is also caused by various factors such as knowledge between family and children, the number of families and attitudes and ways of communication of parents. Conclusion: Parental involvement is important in giving knowledge about reproductive health for adolescent girls but must ensure that the family have good knowledge and good ways of communication as well as approaches to overcome barriers in the gender perspective.
