This study aims at finding the configuration pattern in education that exists among families, schools and social community and determining the quality of education which affects the high quality of education. This study implements phenomenological-qualitative approach carried out in three schools in Bantul regency. The respondents of the research were the principals, teachers, students, school committee, and parents. The data were obtained through in-depth interview, observation and documentation study which were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the research shows that the pattern of educational configuration is formed by the variations of school’s implementation of responsibilities carried out separately and consecutively in a family, schools and a social community. The quality of education at the level of school system is considered better compared to that of individuals and it also varies based on the school’s condition. The pattern of configuration of the educational responsibility aspect is related to the quality of education itself. The pattern does affect the level of the quality of the education if the family, schools and the social community do the responsibility separately, consecutively and consistently without being affected by any distractor.

Purpose This study aims to evaluate the competitiveness of nations and seeks to answer the following research question: how does the competitiveness of nations include improvements in the quality of life, thus influencing and contributing to social progress in both social and economic indices? Design/methodology/approach This paper collected secondary data from the World Economic Forum and the socioeconomic dimensions of the Social Progress Imperative Index and considered the dimensions of these indices, which were demonstrated using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The main focus was on the documentary analysis that was carried out to explain the realities of 121 countries from 2014 to 2017 as taken from these indices, considering the 10 countries at the top and bottom. Findings This study showed the use of new measures for the performance of nations that are less dependent on economics and focus more on social development, which may be a trend for the future of nations, and produce a more holistic view for the study. “Innovation” is the factor with the weakest relationship with social progress, which is justified by a weaker relationship with one of the subcategories, “basic human needs”, when analyzed in isolation. However, when the authors analyze the best and worst nations, the authors observe that economic factors are still prevalent, with the “institutions” and “infrastructure” factors being effective for improving competitiveness and the quality of life. Research limitations/implications The findings represent a new, emerging configuration in country performance, but the study has its limitations, such as the use of only two pooled variables and the fact that it does not correlate their dimensions or variables. Originality/value This study can represents an expansion logic for measuring the performance of countries considering social factors. The main contributions of this study are its statistical evidence and documentary analysis of the relationship between economic and social variables. The main contribution of this paper is to show that over time (2014–2017) economic factors, as measured by the competitiveness index of nations, relate to aspects of social welfare, as measured by the social progress index.

ABSTRACTThis article is part of a doctoral research, which examines  one  aspect  of  the  use  of  information  technology  and communications in the first  decade of  the  21st  century,  in  a  given  area  of  knowledge:  humanities  and  social  sciences. The objective of the investigations is to demonstrate from this area of knowledge that the reality on the use of these technologies has almost always been on the opposite side, creating new divisions or deepening existing ones. Far from eliminating repeti-tive, boring, tedious work, this area of knowledge improves access to information, training and quality of social justice anddemocracy. The methods used were Observations, Analysis an Synthesis, and Documentary Analysis, especially when apply-ing the technique of content analysis of literature and statistical data. In this work are revealed different uses of the social-humanistic  knowledge  in  digitizing  this  information  using  informatics.  In  the  investigation  are  proposed  the  methods  to employ this knowledge to build a better future from the use of instruments that favor their application. Technology: for whomand for what?

Entikong Lama is a densely populated residential area and the center of economic activity located on the riverbank. However, there was poor management of municipal wastewater that influences water quality of the river. Moreover, the river water is used by society for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing and toileting. Hence, municipal wastewater management is needed to prevent river from polluted municipal wastewater. This research is a social analysis to investigate social perspectives on wastewater management planning. This analysis is imperative to find out the social response and willingness of the society towards municipal wastewater management. The social survey was carried out using the interview and questionnaire method. This research found that about 93% of the household already had water closets (WC) and 83% already had septic tanks. The problem that occurs is that the septic tank has never been sucked up because there is no desludging service. This is due to the fact that there are no Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) facilities in the Entikong Lama. Later, communal Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) planning program was offered to the society. About 72% of the household agreed to the communal WWTP program and the rest refused or abstained. Even though it reached high positive response from the society, there were some considerations of the communal WWTP program:  the location of the communal WWTP, the clarity of those who manage the wastewater plant and the amount of fees charged to the society.

Prior research into using social networking sites (SNSs) by visually impaired (VI) users has focused primarily on their competencies and accessibility barriers in its usage. We argue, however, that there exists insufficient research into the daily pattern of use of SNSs by VI users and benefits unique to this population. To address these limitations, we conducted two empirical studies, a diary study and a follow-up in-depth interview study, to further explore the social experiences of VI users’ everyday Facebook engagement. Our findings show that VI users were motivated to use Facebook by the prospect of connecting with family and friends and that Facebook offers unique benefits to VI users in terms of improved quality-of-life through social capital building, knowledge obtainment, and entertainment.

The focus of the present study is on the relationship between the ability to coordinate social perspectives and levels of anxiety induced by the social context. Following a procedure devised by Feffer, levels of perspective coordination were assessed by having subjects construct stories based on pictures of people engaged in some form of social interaction. In addition to an initial story, subjects reconstructed stories from the perspectives of each of the pictured figures. The task was administered under two experimental conditions, a “neutral” and an “anxious” condition. The quality of the experimental conditions was determined by independent ratings of the nature of social interaction depicted in the stimulus pictures. Results showed a relative failure to coordinate perspectives in the “anxious” compared with the “neutral” condition and were discussed in terms of the social contextual effects on aspects of social cognitive functioning.
