The research focuses on the flooding event in Melaka. Flooding has been occurring so frequently in Melaka that assessing the management and preparation for flooding needs to be undertaken. Alor Gajah, Melaka has been selected as a case study because frequent flooding events in the district affected many people. Using FGD as a data collection method, the result showed there is no management structure of flooding events beyond the district level and a proper training for the community is required before the structure can be developed. The original hierarchy and functions under Directive 20 should be maintained. This research suggested a proper institutionalisation of flood management and flood rehabilitation structure for Alor Gajah's district.

Several structural and non-structural measures and approaches have been implemented by the Malaysian government in order to overcome and alleviate the flood disaster. To date, Education, Partnership and Research have been identified as crucial components in forming an effective Flood Management system in Malaysia. This argument has been supported by many public and private institutions worldwide. As such, the standards and plans can be developed and implemented at district, state and federal levels. The spirits of Hyogo and Sendai were used as the guiding principles. Semi-structured interviews with several responding agencies were conducted for data collection. The findings indicated that less emphasis was given to the roles of components such as Education, Partnership and Research in Flood Management. The aim of this paper is to propose an integrated system for storing, disseminating and analyzing information pertaining to Education, Partnership and Research.

The most recurring type of disaster in the world these days is flood because of the spread and extent of its effect on people, among all-natural disasters of the world. Human activities have paved the way for many of these flood behavior to change as they used to be in the past. Pakistan experienced one of the most devastating natural disasters in its history all across the country in 2010, but Thatta district in southern part got severely affected during this flood. For the research, a simple yet efficient methodology Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) by using remote sensing images for identifying flood hazard areas was utilized. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) helps in finding shelter areas with a minimum effect of floods. It is essential to realize the importance of mapped results in consideration of manual flood management in future. The method used in this study is robust enough to explain the flood hazard for suggesting suitable shelter sites in case of flooding events. This would help disaster management bodies and other related agencies to formulate the development plans while keeping the hazard areas, which are unsuitable for development due to flood risk in the future.

Performance measurement in Romanian higher education is of high interest. On one hand, this topic would be significant because public funding depends on the performance of the universities. On the other hand, when measuring performance, the objectives have to be drafted in order to have a comparison basis with what universities achieved. Starting from these two issues, this chapter provides information regarding performance measurement in Romanian higher education. Thus, the main objective of the chapter consists in finding the perceptions of performance measurement at both top and middle management levels. This study is based on a qualitative case study approach and the authors used interviews as a data collection method. The authors used an interpretive research approach to obtain a deeper understanding of the process. Even if performance is hard to define, the results show that depending on the primary purpose of the universities performance receives a definition. Universities use various types of indicators when are measuring performance.
