BACKGROUND Young adults often browse the internet for self-triage and diagnosis. More sophisticated digital platforms such as symptom checkers have recently become pervasive; however, little is known about their use. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to understand young adults’ (18-34 years old) perspectives on the use of the Google search engine versus a symptom checker, as well as to identify the barriers and enablers for using a symptom checker for self-triage and self-diagnosis. METHODS A qualitative descriptive case study research design was used. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 24 young adults enrolled in a university in Ontario, Canada. All participants were given a clinical vignette and were asked to use a symptom checker (WebMD Symptom Checker or Babylon Health) while thinking out loud, and were asked questions regarding their experience. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and imported into the NVivo software program. Inductive thematic analysis was conducted independently by two researchers. RESULTS Using the Google search engine was perceived to be faster and more customizable (ie, ability to enter symptoms freely in the search engine) than a symptom checker; however, a symptom checker was perceived to be useful for a more personalized assessment. After having used a symptom checker, most of the participants believed that the platform needed improvement in the areas of accuracy, security and privacy, and medical jargon used. Given these limitations, most participants believed that symptom checkers could be more useful for self-triage than for self-diagnosis. Interestingly, more than half of the participants were not aware of symptom checkers prior to this study and most believed that this lack of awareness about the existence of symptom checkers hindered their use. CONCLUSIONS Awareness related to the existence of symptom checkers and their integration into the health care system are required to maximize benefits related to these platforms. Addressing the barriers identified in this study is likely to increase the acceptance and use of symptom checkers by young adults.

Purpose: Google Search is currently the most preferred search engine worldwide, making it one of the websites with the highest traffic. It assists people in discovering the content they are searching for, from the large repository of the World Wide Web. Google has grown to be the best in the search engine market that it is the single most important variable to be considered when optimizing a website for search. There are many ranking algorithms used by Google to make the searching process more precise. Google has the vision “to provide access to the world's information in one click”. Machine learning is the most popular methodology applied in predicting future outcomes or organizing information to assist people in making required decisions.ML algorithms are trained over instances or examples through which they analyze the historical data available and learn from past experiences. By repeatedly training over the samples, the patterns in the data can be identified in order to make predictions about the future. Google, as an organization, can be a pioneer in ML, and as a technology product, can be a use case for machine learning. Here, a case analysis has been prepared on few applications of machine learning in the products and services of Google. Within this paper, we highlight their technological history, services with machine learning applications, financial plans, and challenges. The paper also tries to examine the various products of Google which apply ML, such as Google Maps, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Assistant, and review the algorithms used in each service. Approach: The detailed survey method on secondary data is used for analysing the data. Findings: Based on the developed case study, it is clearly evident that Google is using machine learning algorithms with few artificial intelligence features to enhance the quality of the services they provide. Originality: A new way of analysis was performed to identify the methods used in the organization’s services. Paper Type: Descriptive Case Study Research

Accounting information systems (AISs), the core module of any enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, are usually designed as centralised systems. Nowadays, the continuous development and applications of blockchain, or more broadly—distributed ledger technology (DLT), can change the architecture, overcome and improve some limitations of centralised systems, most notably security and privacy. An increasing number of authors are suggesting the application of blockchain technologies in management, accounting and ERPs. This paper aims to examine the emerging literature on this field, and an immediate result is that blockchain applications can have significant benefits. The paper’s innovative contribution and considerable objective are to examine if blockchain can be successfully integrated with AIS and ERPs. We find that blockchain can facilitate integration at multiple levels and better serve various purposes as auditing compliance. To demonstrate that, we analyse e-procurement systems and operations using case study research methodology. The findings suggest that DLT, decentralised finance (DeFI), and financial technology (FinTech) applications can facilitate integrating AISs and ERP systems and yield significant benefits for efficiency, productivity and security.

Mathematics is a subject that has the concept of interrelation between one material with another. Understanding the interrelated material required the existence of a basic ability that is the ability to connect mathematics. The obstacle experienced by students is that when given a problem and the solution is related to the previous material, students are unable to remember the material that is the key to solving the problem. The inability of students is due to lack of memory of previous material and students pay less attention when the teacher is explaining in class. Personality differences make students have different mathematical connection abilities. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of students' mathematical connections in terms of sanguinis, koleris, melancholy, and plegmatic personality types. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study in the form of case study research. Methods of data collection used personality type questionnaires, math connection test questions, and interviews. The results showed that the sanguinis and plegmatic personality types were able to meet all the connection indicators. Koleris personality type is able to fulfill 4 indicators. Melancholy personality types produce different connection capabilities, namely the ability of connections that meet 4 indicators and 1 indicator. This research can provide benefits for students to improve their mathematical connections and understand their personality types. Students who understand their personality types can minimize negative traits that inhibit mathematical connections.

This study uses a case study research method with a qualitative study design. The aims of the study were to find out the domains of Acehnese language shifts in Langsa and the reasons why Acehnese teenagers are shifting their language. Five districts in Langsa, one of the cities in Aceh, Indonesia, became the research location. They were Langsa Kota, Langsa Barat, Langsa Timur, Langsa Baroe and Langsa Lama. The respondents were Acehnese young adults within the age range of 18 to 21 years old. There were 10 respondents from each district, making a total of 50 respondents. The instruments used in this study were observations, a questionnaire, and interviews. Simple statistics were used to analyse the questionnaire, meanwhile the data analysis for the observations and interviews followed an interactive model from Miles and Huberman, namely: data reduction, data display, verification of data, and conclusions. The results showed that the domains of education (30 respondents) and of friendship (27 respondents had the largest number of shifters. Meanwhile, the family domain had the least shifts, so it was concluded that shifts rarely occurred in this domain. Finally, there are three fundamental factors that influenced the shift: environment, habitual usage, and choice of language.

A new group of medically fragile young adults are graduating from pediatric palliative care programs with limited expectations to live beyond early adulthood, and no comparable adult services to support their complex needs. Accessing this population is difficult because of the complexity of their conditions, the extensive personal and equipment supports that limit feasibility for travel, and divergent communication abilities. Therefore, we undertook a descriptive case study using an asynchronous modification of an online focus group, a bulletin board focus group (BBFG). The greatest strengths of the BBFG are the appeal of this methodology for young adults and the multi day focus group becomes both a community and an intervention. An important limitation of this method was participant follow through on discussion threads. This BBFG provided rich and varied types of data, and very positive participant experiences.
