BACKGROUND University teaching methods are changing, and in response to a classical teacher-centered approach, new methods continue to strengthen knowledge acquisition by involving students more actively in their learning, thus achieving greater motivation and commitment. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to analyze the degree of satisfaction of physiotherapy students who used a board game–based approach, as well as to compare the difference between traditional and gamification teaching methods and their influence on the final evaluation of these students. METHODS A comparative study was conducted. Participants were physiotherapy students who were enrolled in the subject of “physiotherapy in geriatric and adult psychomotricity” (n=59). They were divided into two groups (experimental [n=29] and control [n=30] groups) through convenience sampling. The experimental group received gamification lessons, where the students performed different tests adapted from Party&amp;Co, and the control group received traditional lessons. A total of 16 theoretical lessons were received in both groups. RESULTS The scores in the final examination of the subject were higher in the experimental group (mean 7.53, SD 0.95) than in the control group (mean 6.24, SD 1.34), showing a statistically significant difference between the two groups (<i>P</i>=.001). CONCLUSIONS Overall, the “Physiotherapy Party” game not only stimulated learning and motivated students, but also improved learning outcomes among participants, and the improvements were greater than those among students who received traditional teaching.

Implementation of animation as an Arabic language teaching aid is an innovation in creating an atmosphere that can influence student achievement. This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the use of animation in Arabic language teaching and learning among diploma students at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Terengganu, Malaysia. A total of 66 diploma students were randomly selected and divided into experimental group (n = 33) and control group (n = 33). The results obtained from the data collected from pre-and post-test for each group were analyzed using t-test in SPSS version 17.0. The results showed a significant difference of (t = 8789, df = 64, p <0.05) between the achievement of the experimental group and the control group in the post test. The difference in mean score of the experimental group and the control group was 33.03. This shows that there is significant improvement in Arabic language according to the groups. The difference prove that the use of animation in learning sessions contribute to the achievement of students in the Arabic language. This study advocate the idea that animation applications can be integrated as part of language teaching aid to positively improve student achievement, classroom learning environment and student motivation.

Summary Background: This study aimed to investigate the significance of MAMLD1 mutations in the incidence of hypospa-dias in a Chinese population. Methods: The experimental group consisted of 150 domestic children with hypospadias, aged 0.5 to six years and living in different provinces. A total of 120 normal children, aged two to six years, served as the control group. DNA was extracted for the direct sequencing of MAMLD1 genes. Results: Twelve cases (8.0%) of the missense mutation p.N589S were found in the experimental group, whereas four cases (3.0%) of the same mutation were found in the control group. No significant difference was observed in the mutation rate between the two groups (P>0.05). Four cases (2.7%) had a new missense mutation p.P567S in the experimental group, and three cases (2.5%) possessed the same mutation in the control group. No significant difference was observed between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions: In this study, the importance of repeated experiments in mutation-related studies was confirmed, which revealed the difference in predisposing genes among different populations. Although the mutation of the MAMLD1 gene had no apparent connection with the incidence of hypospadias in a Chinese population, a new mutation site of the MAMLD1 gene was discovered, which could provide new research topics for future studies.
