Background Tea parasitic plant (Scurrula oortiana L.) is one of medicinal plants (herba medicina) containing several active compounds but its utilization is still constrained by some problems, so that there needs other approaches by utilizing potential of BR-S1 (A) isolate endophytic fungi which grows in these plants to control MRSA pathogenic bacteria. Objective This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of the four types of BR-S1 (A) endophytic fungi extract  from the origin of tea parasites to the growth of MRSA bacteria. Methods The researchers used laboratory experimental method by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method and the data obtained were analyzed statistically. Result The research result showed that MRSA bacteria had various sensitivity on four types of BR-S1 (A) isolate endophytic fungi; with its highest sensitivity on extract of ethyl acetate and its lowest sensitivity was extract of n-hexane (no inhibition). The difference of sensitivity test results was suspected to be related to active compound content found in ethyl acetate extract in form of flavonoid and tannin class compounds which had been proven to inhibit growth of pathogenic bacteria.  Conclusion It can be concluded that  the four types of BR-S1 (A) endophytic fungus extract originating from tea parasites, only ethyl acetate extract was the most effective in inhibiting the growth of MRSA bacteria, this is due to the content of two active compounds from the flavonoid and tannin groups.

GC and GC/MS analyses of the diethyl ether and ethyl acetate extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Stachys germanica subsp. heldreichii (Boiss) Hayek, Stachys iva Griseb., Stachys plumosa Griseb. and Stachys scardica Griseb., Balkan peninsula endemics, were performed. One hundred and seventy-nine constituents, accounting for 88.8-98.1% of the total composition of the extracts, were identified. The common feature of the diethyl ether extracts was the high content of terpenoids and fatty acidderived compounds, while the common feature of the ethyl acetate extracts was the prevalence of fatty acid-derived compounds. A disk diffusion method was used for the evaluation of the antimicrobial activities of the extracts against a panel of microorganisms (bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enteritidis; fungi: Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans). The total antioxidant capacity of the extracts was evaluated by the phosphomolybdenum method. The preliminary bioassay results indicated that the diethyl ether extract of S. plumosa could be a possible source of antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds.

Cissus quadrangularis (Vitaceae) is a popular climber conspicuous by its flesh quadrangular stem widespread throughout Bangladesh. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of C. quadrangularis extracts was studied against selected pathogenic bacteria, industrial wasted bacteria, and broth dilution assay. The most commonly used method of microbiological assay is the disc diffusion method. C. quadrangularis stem extracted with four solvents (Petroleum spirit, methanol, ethyl acetate, and dichloromethane) were tested for antimicrobial activities against some pathogenic microorganisms Sarcina lutea (002-1), Xanthomonas campestris (004-1), Escherichia coli (005-1), Klebsiella pneumonia (006-1) and some industrial (Tannery, Tobacco, and Sugar mill) waste watered bacteria by disc diffusion method. Among the four extracts, ethyl acetate showed moderate antibacterial activity against X. campestris (004-1) and industrial watered bacteria. But, the commercial disc Oxicycline doesn’t show any antibacterial activity against the industrial waste watered bacteria. Petroleum spirit, methanol, and dichloromethane extract were ineffective against all of the tested bacteria.

ABSTRACT Sponges are one source of producing bioactive components from the sea. Bacteria Symbiosis with sponges are thought to have the potential to produce bioactive compounds that have been isolated from sponges. One of the potential of bioactive compounds which have been found and developed from sponges was antibacterial. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of bacteria associated with Phyllospongia lamellose sponges against pathogenic bacteria namely Staphylococcus aureus and Esherichia coli and then proceed with identification of biochemistry in isolates which showed the greatest inhibitory activity. Three isolates of sponges symbiont bacteria were obtained through the isolation and purification stage which were then followed by testing of antibacterial activity with paper disk diffusion method. The antibacterial test results showed the diameter of the inhibitory zone against Staphylococcus aureus, were: SL1(8.67 mm), SL2 (9.33 mm) and SL3(9.00 mm) categorized as medium. Whereas the inhibiotion zone shown on Esherichia coli bacteria is also classified as medium, were: SL1(9.67 mm), SL2 (9.00 mm) and SL3 (9.33 mm). The three isolates continued to the identification stage biochemically. Each isolation was assumed as follows: Desulfotomaculum (SL1), Brochothrix (SL2) and Sulfidobacillus (SL3). Keyword         :Phyllospongia lamellose, isolation, biochemically identification ABSTRAK Spons merupakan salah satu sumber penghasil komponen bioaktif yang berasal dari laut.
