The aim of this article is to analyse the spatial diffusion patterns of Covid-19 in Brazil, considering the organization of transport systems, the urban network, and spatial interactions. It is also important to highlight some of the State strategies and actions necessary to combat the epidemic and encourage economic development. Transport systems and their flows are diffusion vectors of the novel coronavirus throughout the territory, and this process permeates different moments of spatial interactions within the hierarchical context of the urban networks. In the case of Brazil, the advance of Covid-19 has assumed elevated levels, given the precariousness of the equipment of social reproduction, particularly over recent years. The deepening neoliberalism in Brazil is added to an erratic policy for combating the pandemic, thereby counteracting the pressing need for the socialization of investments in Brazil.

At the state level within the United States, did political ideology predict the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)? Throughout March 2020, the United States became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, recording the most cases of any country worldwide. The current research found that, at the state level within the United States, more conservative political ideology predicted delayed implementation of stay-at-home orders and more rapid spread of COVID-19. Effects were significant across two distinct operationalizations of political ideology and held over and above relevant covariates, suggesting a potentially unique role of political ideology in the United States’ COVID-19 outbreak. Considering political ideological factors may offer valuable insights into epidemiological processes surrounding COVID-19.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, occurred in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and quickly spread to both the developed and developing countries. The virus will continue to infect humans and animals symptomatically or asymptomatically, and humans will be expected to coexist with SARS-CoV-2 by preventing infections and its spread. In this paper, we report on the occurrence of the COVID-19 epidemic in Japan, including the city of Kobe.

The emergence of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has brought many development activities to a standstill. The disruption to economic and other livelihood activities is unprecedented. Within the Ghanaian landscape, COVID-19 has become an overarching pandemic that has engulfed every facet of the national economy. The pandemic has exposed existing vulnerabilities in our communities that must be addressed to ensure resilient recovery. Serious economic challenges lie ahead that risk exacerbating poverty and unemployment, with national and local governments increasingly struggling to meet the needs of citizens. Addressing these challenges will require a paradigm shift in the way local businesses are modelled, livelihoods are shaped and how jobs are created. This is where Local Economic Development (LED) as a driver of innovation, employment and growth presents a great opportunity.

This paper sets out to examine the contention that economic growth will diffuse naturally from a medium-sized growing urban centre to the area immediately surrounding that centre, and eventually beyond into more distant parts of the region. An attempt is made to assess the validity of some existing theoretical and intuitive ideas concerning the spatial diffusion of economic development by means of some simple statistical tests on data for the state of Georgia.

AbstractEstimating the percentages of undiagnosed and asymptomatic patients is essential for controlling the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, and for assessing any strategy for controlling the disease. In this paper, we propose a novel analysis based on the birth-death process with recursive full tracing. We estimated the numbers of undiagnosed symptomatic patients and total infected individuals per diagnosed patient before and after the declaration of the state of emergency in Hokkaido, Japan. The median of the estimated number of undiagnosed symptomatic patients per diagnosed patient decreased from 1.9 to 0.77 after the declaration, and the median of the estimated number of total infected individuals per diagnosed patient decreased from 4.7 to 2.4. We will discuss the limitations and possible expansions of the model.

Palavras-chave: Rede Urbana; COVID-19; Macro Norte.ABSTRACTThis text analyzes the spatial diffusion process of COVID-19 in the Northern Minas Health Macroregion. To this end, the Urban Network of Minas Gerais is contextualized, focusing on the health sector and the displacements related to this service in Macro Norte. It presents a diagnosis and mapping of COVID-19 cases and deaths from April 2020 to March 2021, apex of the epidemiological crisis in Brazil and also in this region. A qualitative approach, survey, organization and systematization of data from COVID-19 in Minas Gerais was used, in addition to analytical and graphical cartographic products. Regarding the analysis of the spread of the virus, the concept of urban networks with the expansion of spatial interactions is important for understanding the dynamics of the pandemic. The analysis points out that with the pandemic, displacements to Montes Claros and other micro-regional headquarters ratify the population's unequal access to highly complex health structures, and also reflects the rapid process of spreading the virus in northern Minas Gerais from the urban network. Keywords: Urban Network; COVID-19; North Macroregion.RESUMENEste texto analiza el proceso de difusión espacial de COVID-19 en la Macrorregión de Salud Norte de Minas. Objectives: We test whether the association between state religiosity and distance traveled is moderated by population age during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: Mobility is operationalized as the state-level average median distance traveled from February 24 to May 4 across the contiguous United States. Shelter-in-place rates are operationalized as the state-level percentage of users staying home. State religiosity is measured with an index of aggregated religious identities, beliefs, and practices. Population age is indicated by the state percentage of adults aged 65 years and older. We model population mobility using regression with state clustered robust SEs. Results: We observe that religious states tend to travel more during the early stages of the pandemic. However, the behavioral risks associated with state religiosity are less pronounced in states with larger older populations. Discussion: We contribute to our understanding of the social patterning of pandemic mobility in aging populations.

Political democracy should be equivalent to the economic development of the quality of democracy, economic democracy if not upright, even the owner of the ruling power and money, which is parallel to force global corporatocracy. Consequently, the economic oligarchy preservation reinforces control of production and distribution from upstream to downstream and power monopoly of the market. The implication, increasingly sharp economic disparities, exclusive owner of the money and power become fertile, and the end could jeopardize the harmony of the national economy. The loss of national economic identity that makes people feel lost the “pilot of the state”. What happens then is the autopilot state. Viewing unclear direction of the economy, the national economy should clarify the true figure.

This article considers the politics and aesthetics of the colonial Bildungsroman by reading George Moore's often-overlooked novel A Drama in Muslin (1886). It argues that the colonial Bildungsroman does not simply register difference from the metropolitan novel of development or express tension between the core and periphery, as Jed Esty suggests, but rather can imagine a heterogeneous historical time that does not find its end in the nation-state. A Drama in Muslin combines naturalist and realist modes, and moves between Ireland and England to construct a form of untimely development that emphasises political processes (dissent, negotiation) rather than political forms (the state, the nation). Ultimately, the messy, discordant history represented in the novel shows the political potential of anachronism as it celebrates the untimeliness of everyday life.
