Palavras-chave: Rede Urbana; COVID-19; Macro Norte.ABSTRACTThis text analyzes the spatial diffusion process of COVID-19 in the Northern Minas Health Macroregion. To this end, the Urban Network of Minas Gerais is contextualized, focusing on the health sector and the displacements related to this service in Macro Norte. It presents a diagnosis and mapping of COVID-19 cases and deaths from April 2020 to March 2021, apex of the epidemiological crisis in Brazil and also in this region. A qualitative approach, survey, organization and systematization of data from COVID-19 in Minas Gerais was used, in addition to analytical and graphical cartographic products. Regarding the analysis of the spread of the virus, the concept of urban networks with the expansion of spatial interactions is important for understanding the dynamics of the pandemic. The analysis points out that with the pandemic, displacements to Montes Claros and other micro-regional headquarters ratify the population's unequal access to highly complex health structures, and also reflects the rapid process of spreading the virus in northern Minas Gerais from the urban network. Keywords: Urban Network; COVID-19; North Macroregion.RESUMENEste texto analiza el proceso de difusión espacial de COVID-19 en la Macrorregión de Salud Norte de Minas. The aim of this article is to analyse the spatial diffusion patterns of Covid-19 in Brazil, considering the organization of transport systems, the urban network, and spatial interactions. It is also important to highlight some of the State strategies and actions necessary to combat the epidemic and encourage economic development. Transport systems and their flows are diffusion vectors of the novel coronavirus throughout the territory, and this process permeates different moments of spatial interactions within the hierarchical context of the urban networks. In the case of Brazil, the advance of Covid-19 has assumed elevated levels, given the precariousness of the equipment of social reproduction, particularly over recent years. The deepening neoliberalism in Brazil is added to an erratic policy for combating the pandemic, thereby counteracting the pressing need for the socialization of investments in Brazil.

The nodes and links in urban networks are usually presented in a two-dimensional(2D) view. The co-occurrence of nodes and links can also be realized from a three-dimensional(3D) perspective to make the characteristics of urban network more intuitively revealed. Our result shows that the external connections of high-level cities are mainly affected by the level of cities(nodes) and less affected by geographical distance, while medium-level cities are affected by the interaction of the level of cities(nodes) and geographical distance. The external connections of low-level cities are greatly restricted by geographical distance.

Literature on how cities get connected through networks of firms has been increasing in recent years. In particular, advanced producer service (APS) firms are being widely used to build intra-firm linkages to establish urban networks. In contrast to studies applying intra-firm networks, this study proposes an alternative strategy to build urban networks based on inter-firm service provision relationships during the process of initial public offering (IPO) in which APS firms – including securities, law firms and accounting firms – provide professional services for firms aiming to be publicly listed. Based on service provision connections between APS firms and their clients, this study provides fresh insights on urban networks in China. The results show that Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai strategically hold dominant positions within Chinese urban networks and they are the lead command and financial centres within the country. Particularly, Beijing has overwhelmingly more influence over other cities. The urban networks are embedded in China’s unique institutional context where market and state power together have shaped these networks. Since the urban network is built up based on real economic linkages, the findings might have further implications for policy-making and could contribute to ongoing debates regarding financial centres in China. It implies that connections between firms based on real economic activities can be an effective way to construct urban networks in future research.

In light of the long-term pressure and short-term impact of economic and technological globalization, regional and urban resilience has become an important issue in research. As a new organizational form of regional urban systems, the resilience of urban networks generated by flow space has emerged as a popular subject of research. By gathering 2017 data from the Baidu search index, the Tencent location service, and social statistics, this study constructs information, transportation, and economic networks among 344 cities in China to analyze the spatial patterns of urban networks and explore their structural characteristics from the perspectives of hierarchy and assortativity. Transmissibility and diversity were used to represent the resilience of the network structure in interruption scenarios (node failure and maximum load attack). The results show the following: The information, transportation, and economic networks of cities at the prefecture level and higher in China exhibit a dense pattern of spatial distribution in the east and a sparse pattern in the west; however, there are significant differences in terms of hierarchy and assortativity. The order of resilience of network transmissibility and diversity from strong to weak was information, economic, transportation. Transmissibility and diversity had nearly identical scores in response to the interruption of urban nodes. Moreover, a highly heterogeneous network was more likely to cause shocks to the network structure, owing to its cross-regional urban links in case of disturbance. We identified 12 dominant nodes and 93 vulnerable nodes that can help accurately determine the impetus behind network structure resilience. The capacity of regions for resistance and recovery can be improved by strengthening the construction of emergency systems and risk prevention mechanisms.

Abstract. OpenStreetMap (OSM) uses the Open Database License, it is a collaborative project that collects a rich set of vector data provided by volunteers. It is a global collection of mapping data that can be used for a wide variety of purposes. Many third-party online maps are based on OpenStreetMap data. Currently, more and more large organizations are choosing OSM for their maps.

In addition, the analysis of the spatial quality of the OSM data shows that particular care must be taken. However, there are several methods for assessing the quality of the OSM data by comparing the OSM to an authoritative dataset. In this context, it is essential to develop an automatic procedure to improve its spatial quality.

This work proposes a quantitative method for comparing the quality of the OSM and an authoritative data set on urban networks in the city of Oran (Algeria). The procedure is based on python modules in a GIS environment and provides measurements of the spatial accuracy and completeness of the OSM road network. The method is applied to assess the quality of the Oran OSM road network data set through a comparison with the official Algerian dataset. The results show that the OSM's Algerian road network is very complete, but with low spatial accuracy.

Rural and urban networks have been rapidly expanding over time, so there is a rising demand for more optimum maintenance policies (MPs). The low traffic weights on the urban network of a residential city makes the appearance and density of load-associated distresses rare. This encourages the city’s transportation agency to depend on limited treatment choices and the subjective judgement of the agency’s engineers in managing maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) activities. The engineers’ judgement reflects their extensive field experience and is usually used in this type of city rather than generating optimal computerized solutions. The present study proposes two alternative MPs that are more objective than the policy that depends on engineers’ judgement. One of the proposed alternative policies allows one M&R action along the planning horizon and the other allows multiple M&R actions. The optimum analysis showed that the preventive treatment is the optimal action for more than 50% of the network segments, which means that it plays a vital and nonnegligible role in improving the effectiveness of the M&R activities. Moreover, the sensitivity of the generated M&R plans to the initial performance of the pavement, traffic volume, and the objectives weights is investigated to determine the optimal time, suitable action, maintenance need, and optimal objective weights. The sensitivity analysis showed that varying objective weights leads to different optimal and rational solutions and the most cost-effective solution is not achieved at equal weights for objectives.

In this paper, a macroscopic model is applied to simulate dynamical features of traffic flow on a continuum urban network. This model is described as the two-dimensional Lighthill-Whitham-Richards model coupled with a reactive dynamic user-optimal route choice model. Numerical results visualize the ability of the model to predict some macroscopic characteristics of traffic flow on networks, i.e. the spatial distribution of flow density and travel cost of users, as well as to capture traffic congestion build-up and dissipation.
