Experimental Studies of VKR-4 Fans Working in Agricultural Premises

One of the most important factors for increasing productivity in animal husbandry, poultry farming, and in greenhouse complexes, including for growing mushrooms, is the microclimate. To ensure normal air exchange in agricultural premises, roof fans with horizontal discharge of the VKR-4 type are recommended and used. When using ventilation equipment, it is necessary to take into account the technological requirements for creating a microclimate and the capabilities of the equipment. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in justifying the rational parameters of the system for creating a microclimate in agricultural premises when using a fan of the VKR-4 type, and to give recommendations to the agricultural producer. (Materials and methods) Authors investigated the efficiency of regulating the performance of the ventilation system by means of a valve in the exhaust shaft of the ventilator and by changing the supply voltage of the electric motor. (Results and discussion) The article presents experimental studies of the operation of the ventilation system when using a roof fan of the VKR-4 type to determine its effectiveness in order to maintain the required zootechnical parameters in rooms for keeping animals at the lowest energy costs. (Conclusions) Regulating the performance of the ventilation unit by means of a mechanical flap in the exhaust shaft of the fan by changing the angle of its opening is uneconomical. The regulation by reversing the electric motor provides a 1:2 ratio of the air supply, but the power consumption of the electric motor increases almost twice during the reverse. When the fan performance is controlled by changing the motor voltage from 70 to 173 volts of line voltage, the performance increases, but with a further increase in voltage, it does not change, and the power consumption continues to increase.

It was proposed to use air flow screw straightened units in outlet pipe of the dust collectors to reduce the aerodynamic resistance of exhaust ventilation systems. It is allowed to decrease power consumption for their maintenance operation consequently. The article describes the results of experimental studies to evaluate its effectiveness by applying the tangential screw straightened unit within ventilation system. The obtained results showed that the use of this device allows reducing the aerodynamic resistance of the cyclone by 14.6%, and for counter-swirling flows’ dust collector (CSFC) by 17.2-23.6%. It was found that meanings of the aerodynamic resistance depend on value the share proportion of the flow entering into lower CSFC apparatus’ input.

Problems of technical service of machinery and equipment in animal husbandry are mostly related to the restructuring of the economic model of interaction between agricultural producers and organizations that supply and service of machinery and equipment. Currently, the entrance control of products and spare parts purchased abroad is not established, and the materials used to make parts in contact with milk (teat rubber, milk hoses, etc.) are not checked for compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in justifying the structure of the engineering center for integrated solutions in the field of dairy farming based on the Federal Scientific Agroengineering Center VIM. (Materials and methods) The article presents the results of studying sources describing the past and present experience of organizing a system of technical service of machines and equipment for dairy farming in the Russian Federation and foreign countries that are leading in terms of milk production. Authors collected information from key equipment suppliers when visiting industry exhibitions (Euro Tier, AgroFarm, Golden Autumn, etc.). (Results and discussion) The article proposes the concept of creating an engineering center on the basis of the Federal Scientific Agroengineering Center VIM according to the developed structure. (Conclusions) The implementation of the proposed structure for creating an engineering center will eliminate the existing imbalance in the field of technical service of livestock enterprises, establish information, design, machine-technological and service support for the reconstruction and successful development of livestock enterprises in the industry.

This work presents a high efficiency RF-to-DC conversion circuit composed of an LC-CL balun-based Gm-boosting envelope detector, a low noise baseband amplifier, and an offset canceled latch comparator. It was designed to have high sensitivity with low power consumption for wake-up receiver (WuRx) applications. The proposed envelope detector is based on a fully integrated inductively degenerated common-source amplifier with a series gate inductor. The LC-CL balun circuit is merged with the core of the envelope detector by sharing the on-chip gate and source inductors. The proposed technique doubles the transconductance of the input transistor of the envelope detector without any extra power consumption because the gate and source voltage on the input transistor operates in a differential mode. This results in a higher RF-to-DC conversion gain. In order to improve the sensitivity of the wake-up radio, the DC offset of the latch comparator circuit is canceled by controlling the body bias voltage of a pair of differential input transistors through a binary-weighted current source cell. In addition, the hysteresis characteristic is implemented in order to avoid unstable operation by the large noise at the compared signal. The hysteresis window is programmable by changing the channel width of the latch transistor. The low noise baseband amplifier amplifies the output signal of the envelope detector and transfers it into the comparator circuit with low noise. For the 2.4 GHz WuRx, the proposed envelope detector with no external matching components shows the simulated conversion gain of about 16.79 V/V when the input power is around the sensitivity of −60 dBm, and this is 1.7 times higher than that of the conventional envelope detector with the same current and load. The proposed RF-to-DC conversion circuit (WuRx) achieves a sensitivity of about −65.4 dBm based on 45% to 55% duty, dissipating a power of 22 μW from a 1.2 V supply voltage.

The conventional shift register consists of master and slave (MS) latches with each latch receiving the data from the previous stage. Therefore, the same data are stored in two latches separately. It leads to consuming more electrical power and occupying more layout area, which is not satisfactory to most circuit designers. To solve this issue, a novel cross-latch shift register (CLSR) scheme is proposed. It significantly reduced the number of transistors needed for a 256-bit shifter register by 48.33% as compared with the conventional MS latch design. To further verify its functions, this CLSR was implemented by using TSMC 40 nm CMOS process standard technology. The simulation results reveal that the proposed CLSR reduced the average power consumption by 36%, cut the leakage power by 60.53%, and eliminated layout area by 34.76% at a supply voltage of 0.9 V with an operating frequency of 250 MHz, as compared with the MS latch.

A computational model of existing Seoul subway tunnelwas analyzed in this research. The computational model was comprised of one natural ventilationshaft, two mechanical ventilationshafts, one mechanical airsupply, a twin-track tunnel, and a train. Understanding the flow pattern of the train-induced airflow in the tunnel was necessary to improve ventilation performance. The research objective wasto improve the air quality in the tunnel by investigating train-induced airflow in the twin-track subway tunnel numerically. The numerical analysis characterized the aerodynamic behavior and performance of the ventilation system by solving three-dimensional turbulent Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. ANSYS CFX software was used for the computations. The ventilation and aerodynamic characteristics in the tunnel were investigated by analyzing the mass flowrateat the exits of the ventilation mechanicalshafts. As the train passed the mechanical ventilation shafts, the amount of discharged-air in the ventilationshafts decreased rapidly. The air at the exits of the ventilation shafts was gradually recovered with time, after the train passed the ventilation shafts. The developed mechanical air-supply for discharging dusty air and supplying clean airwas investigated.The computational results showed that the developed mechanical air-supplycould improve the air quality in the tunnel.

This work presents a single chip integrated pulse generator-modulator to be utilized in a short range wireless radio sensors remote control applications. The circuit, which can generate single pulses, modulated in BPSK, OOK, PAM, and also PPM, has been developed in a standard CMOS technology (AMS 0.35 μm). Typical pulse duration is about 1 ns while pulse repetition frequency is until 200 MHz (5 ns "chip" time). The operating supply voltage is ± 2.5 V, while the whole power consumption is about 15 mW. Post-layout parametric and corner analyses have confirmed the theoretical expectations.

This article is devoted to the analysis of the heat engineering characteristics of the operation of an Earth-to-Air Heat Exchanger, EAHE, with a circular cross-sectional shape, which is a component of the geothermal ventilation system. The authors analyzed literature sources devoted to the research of heat exchangers of the soil-air type of various designs and for working conditions in various soils. Much attention is paid to the issues of modeling the operation of such heat exchangers and the distinctive features of each of these models. Also important are the results of experimental studies carried out on our own experimental bench and with the help of which the numerical model was validated. The results of these studies are the basis for the development of a method for determining the optimal diameter of an EAHE under operating conditions for soil in Kyiv, Ukraine.

A method of thermomechanical improvement of pulsating air flows in the intake system of a turbocharged piston engine is described. The main objective of this study is to develop a method for suppressing the rate of heat transfer to improve the reliability of a piston turbocharged engine. A brief review of the literature on improving the reliability of piston engines is given. Scientific and technical results were obtained on the basis of experimental studies on a full-scale model of a piston engine. The hot-wire anemometer method was used to obtain gas-dynamic and heatexchange characteristics of gas flows. Laboratory stands and instrumentation facilities are described in the article. The data on gas dynamics and heat exchange of stationary and pulsating air flows in gas-dynamic systems of various configurations as applied to the air supply system of a turbocharged piston engine are presented. A method of thermomechanical improvement of flows in the intake system of an engine based on a honeycomb is proposed in order to stabilize the pulsating flow and suppress the intensity of heat transfer. Data were obtained on the air flow rate and the local heat transfer coefficient both in the exhaust duct of the turbocharger compressor (i.e., without a piston engine) and in the intake system of a supercharged engine. A comparative analysis of the data has been carried out. It was found that the installation of a leveling grid in the exhaust channel of a turbocharger leads to an intensification of heat transfer by an average of 9%. It was found that the presence of a leveling grid in the intake system of a piston engine causes the suppression of heat transfer within 15% in comparison with the baseline values. It is shown that the use of a modernized intake system in a diesel engine increases its probability of failure-free operation by 0.8%. The data obtained can be extended to other types and designs of air supply systems for heat engines.

We proposed a new method for designing the CMOS differential log-companding amplifier which achieves significant improvements in linearity, common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR), and output range. With the new nonlinear function used in the log-companding technology, this proposed amplifier has a very small total harmonic distortion (THD) and simultaneously a wide output current range. Furthermore, a differential structure with conventionally symmetrical configuration has been adopted in this novel method in order to obtain a high CMRR. Because all transistors in this amplifier operate in the weak inversion, the supply voltage and the total power consumption are significantly reduced. The novel log-companding amplifier was designed using a 0.18 μm CMOS technology. Improvements in THD, output current range, noise, and CMRR are verified using simulation data. The proposed amplifier operates from a 0.8 V supply voltage, shows a 6.3 μA maximum output current range, and has a 6 μW power consumption. The THD is less than 0.03%, the CMRR of this circuit is 74 dB, and the input referred current noise density is166.1 fA/Hz. This new method is suitable for biomedical applications such as electrocardiogram (ECG) signal acquisition.

Substantial time and money have been directed toward photovoltaic solar power. However, mitigation of dust on solar panels has been largely neglected. The objective of this research was to determine the performance and power consumption of an electrodynamic dust shield (EDS) to clean solar panels as a function of dust particle size. We utilized a discrete element method to computationally simulate the transport, collision, and electrodynamic interactions of particles subjected to electrodynamic waves generated by an EDS. The EDS consisted of electrodes embedded within a dielectric material. 1250 monodisperse particles with diameters of 30–50 μm were simulated. In the absence of particle-particle interactions, an increase in diameter increased particle transport distance due to increased particle charge. However, inclusion of particle-particle collisions produced interactions such that an intermediate diameter yielded the smallest transport distance. Average power required to lift a particle off the surface was smallest with the smallest particle; however, power requirement decreased with diameter with a constant loading of particles on the EDS. Calculated from our simulation data, power consumption per unit area of an experimental EDS agreed with previous experimental studies. Our study elucidated important aspects of EDS operation and power consumption to mitigate dust on solar panels.
