Introduction. The psycho-emotional sphere is one of the most prone to the hard conditions of maritime labor. When working in the sea on ships of foreign companies, there are often violations of working conditions. It can cause the emergence of socio-psychological conflicts that turn into psycho-emotional stress. In this regard, the study of the emotional sphere of Russian seafarers working on ships under the flags of foreign states is very relevant. Objective: to determine the characteristics of the state of the emotional sphere of Russian sailors when working in international crews and justify the need for its correction in the voyage and inter-voyage periods.Materials and methods. The psycho-emotional state of Russian seafarers who worked on ships of foreign companies was studied in real-time mode during a sea voyage using the method of «Diagnostics of interpersonal relationships» by T. Leary, adapted by L. N. Dog.Results and its discussion. A rather high level of emotional stress was found during the voyage, probably due to the difficulty of communicating with foreign sailors, the severity of work and, as a result, the occurrence of conflict situations.Conclusion. Emotional stress can result in the emergence of neurotic reactions in seafarers. For work on ships flying a foreign flag, it is recommended to conduct a careful selection of crews and not allow the conclusion of contracts with psychologically unstable persons.

Background. Psycho-emotional sphere of mariners is one of the most susceptible to severe conditions of maritime labor. Crew work at sea on ships of foreign companies often has abnormal working conditions. As a result, socio-psychological conflicts can arise, turning into psycho-emotional stress. Thus, the research of Russian mariners’ emotional sphere, working on the ships under flags of foreign states is very actual. The aim of the work is to define the features of Russian mariners’ emotional condition during their work with international crews and to substantiate the necessity of its correction during voyage and intervoyage periods.Materials and methods. Psycho-emotional condition of Russian mariners who worked on foreign companies’ ships during sea voyage was assessed using diagnostic method «Diagnostic of interpersonal relations» T. Leary, adapted by L.N. Sobchik. Results of the research and discussion. A rather high level of tension of the emotional condition during the voyage was found, probably, caused by difficult communication with foreign mariners, hard work and, as a consequence, occurrence of conflict situations. Emotional stress may contribute to neurotic reactions in mariners. It is recommended to select crews for work on ships under the foreign flag and not to allow contracting with psychologically unstable person.

Aim. The purpose of the article is to introduce innovative approaches to training female basketball players for responding and resolving conflict situations, reducing aggressiveness, building effective interpersonal relationships during training to achieve high results. Materials and methods. The study involved two groups of female basketball players. The experimental group (EG) consisted of 32 subjects aged 18–25 years old, members of the women's basketball teams of universities in Chelyabinsk. The control group (CG) consisted of 28 subjects of a similar age, who were part of the amateur university women's basketball teams. The study used the “Aggression Test” by L.G. Pochebut, the K. Thomas Conflict Mode Instrument (adaptation by N.V. Grishina), and the T. Leary Interpersonal Behavior Circle Personal Inventory. Statistical analysis of the results was carried out using the SPSS Statistics 17.0 program. Results. High level of aggressiveness, conflict and inadequacy of interpersonal relations in basketball players was revealed. The author’s innovative modular psychological and pedagogical program for the correction of destructive types of aggression, as well as conflict and ineffective interpersonal relationships was developed and implemented. Monitoring showed a decrease in the level of physical, emotional aggression, self-aggression. The choice of adequate strategies for behavior in the conflict was formed, which indicates the effectiveness of the program when working with athletes of basketball teams during training. Conclusion. An analysis of the data obtained indicates that after the modular psychological and pedagogical program the athletes learned to neutralize conflict and at the same time switch their aggression to neutral objects, express aggression verbally with less emotional coloring, resolve conflict situations and construct harmoniously interpersonal relationships.

The article provides a comparable analysis of phraseologisms with the zoonymic component in German and Ukrainian linguistic images of the world, which are closely related to national cultures, traditions, customs and religions. Representatives of the animal world become symbols of prototype imagery of strength, bravery, courage, loyalty, stubbornness, humility, guile, speed of movement, wisdom. It has been identified that zoonymic component in a phraseological unit has a pronounced national-cultural specificity, which determines its associative relations and allows to use these phraseologisms to characterize appearance, social status, interpersonal relationships, behavior, physical and emotional state, intelligence, attitude to work and character traits of a person. In this case, the negative characteristics in zoonyms outweigh the positive ones, which is explained by the fact that any language tends to more likely adopt negative deviation in meaning. Mythology, folklore, biblical and literary sources, historical events and facts have significant bearing on the choice of zoonyms in phraseological units of the languages compared. Names of animals in different languages can be related to not the same images and symbols, and the same animals can be a standard for ascribing different qualities and characteristics. Thus, phraseological units with zoonyms can cause difficulties in translation, since zoonimic image plays a crucial role in the formation of the individual meaning of the phraseological unit, performing both informative and imaginative-expressive function. Phraseological units with a zoonymic component can be translated using full equivalents, partial lexical and grammatical equivalents, selection of analogues, description, literal and overtonal translations.

NUMO has adopted a volunteering approach to siting a geological repository for high-level radioactive waste (HLW). It is important for this process that the pros and cons of volunteers can be assessed from literature data in a clear and transparent manner, prior to the very careful selection of those sites that will be carried forward for more detailed characterisation. For this purpose, multi-attribute analysis (MAA) methodology has been developed that allows the technical assessment of criteria to be represented as scoring models. The trickier job of weighting different criteria involves expert opinion, which can be solicited by different methods. In particular, weighting of top-level attributes involves balancing a range of technical and socio-economic issues, which can be examined by considering the viewpoint of different stakeholders. The applicability of the MAA tool and its sensitivity to stakeholder viewpoints have been examined by simple case studies.

We all feel the implications of the force of social media—for good and for ill—in our lives and in our professional world. At the time of this writing, Facebook continues with its struggle to “clean up its act” as more revelations surrounding breaches of trust and hacked user data surface in the news and various countries attempt to hold Facebook to account. Despite this, social media use continues to grow exponentially, and the potential for responsible, ethical, and transparent social media to transform the ways in which we interact with and learn from each other increase with it. As we wait to see what the future holds for social media in society, we are reminded once again that it is the careful selection of pedagogical tools such as social media, as well the guided awareness of the challenges and benefits of those tools, that remains constant, even as tools may change, disappear, or fall out of fashion.

The present review covers combination approaches of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) plus antibiotics or antifungals to attack bacteria and fungi in vitro (both planktonic and biofilm forms) focused on those microorganisms that cause infections in skin and soft tissues. The combination can prevent failure in the fight against these microorganisms: antimicrobial drugs can increase the susceptibility of microorganisms to aPDT and prevent the possibility of regrowth of those that were not inactivated during the irradiation; meanwhile, aPDT is effective regardless of the resistance pattern of the strain and their use does not contribute to the selection of antimicrobial resistance. Additive or synergistic antimicrobial effects in vitro are evaluated and the best combinations are presented. The use of combined treatment of aPDT with antimicrobials could help overcome the difficulty of fighting high level of resistance microorganisms and, as it is a multi-target approach, it could make the selection of resistant microorganisms more difficult.

The origin and development of wheeled vehicles continues to fascinate today no less than when Stuart Piggott (1974) first wrote about the subject inAntiquity40 years ago. A growing number of examples from the steppes of southern Russia and Ukraine are providing new insights into the design and construction of these complex artefacts. A recent example from the Ulan IV burial mound illustrates the techniques employed and the mastery of materials, with careful selection of the kinds of wood used for the wheels, axles and other elements. Stable isotope analysis of the individual interred in this grave showed that he had travelled widely, emphasising the mobility of steppe populations.

In completing a competitors’ analysis in the railway sector by using the “Knowledge House” method, there is frequently a problem of data and information accessibility. The quality of primary information has direct influence on the quality of analytical conclusions. One more condition for the qualitative application of this method is the intellectual capital and experience of the analyst. One should note that in this regard we face another problem, that of selection of proper personnel, on the qualification of whom depends the accuracy of the evaluation and final results, on the basis of which strategic decisions are taken. The main aim of the paper is to assess the opportunities for applications of competitive intelligence methods in the railway sector. The study is using “Knowledge House”, DWS, DMS, DSS methodologies. Having analysed the scientific works the direct scientific sources of information, which are oriented to the application of the methods of competitive intelligence to the railway sector, have not been identified. The paper is absolutely original in that until now the competitive intelligence techniques have not been applied for the railway sector companies. Considering the fact that foreign companies, which compete for freighting at the international level, are regarded as the main competitors of the railway sector, the use of the methods of the competitive intelligence becomes more important while fighting for the part of the market. The competitive intelligence methods and their application to the railway sector companies are little studied. In accordance with application of the relevant methods in other sectors, it can be assumed that these innovative approaches could have a positive impact on the competitiveness of companies in the railway sector and their income.

Forcipomyia taiwana, a bloodsucking midge that is one of the most irritating biting pests in Taiwan, has raised widespread public concern. However, we have little information about the extent to which landscape factors affect their potential habitats. As a result, landscape professionals do not have enough information to implement preventive strategies to control midges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between landscaping and algae growth for larval breeding sites of Forcipomyia taiwana. The intent is to determine the environmental strategies that make the planned landscape unsuitable for midges to breed. GIS based on data collected from 16 constructed landscape sites (317,187 m2 in total) was utilized to spatially examine the relationship between the occurrence of the algae for midge breeding sites and the ground surface types and planting characteristics in each landscape. The results revealed that the potential midge habitats can be controlled through careful selection of the ground surface, the improvement of the site drainage, and choosing plants with the appropriate characteristics. Apart from choosing the appropriate type of paving surface, the integrity of the paving installation and the coverage of the ecological surface also influence prevention efficacy.
