Abstract: This study of bibliographic review aimed to identify, in different data sources, literatures about the increasing number of elders who undergo substitutive renal therapy and verify the nursing care model that has been directed to this population. Currently, due to the longer human life span and aging process, the chronic renal disease is observed as implication of high blood pressure and diabetes, becoming an epidemic among the different ages. The nursing motivated for the understanding of health needs of the elderly population has advanced in the production of knowledge in Geronthology, bringing out studies related to the care of the chronic renal elder, which shows that professionals are aware of this new demand of patients, which requires the construction of new approaches. Decreased immune functions have been suggested as a cause for the increased incidence of autoimmunity, malignancy, and infection in the elderly population. To assess the possible role of changes in macrophage function in the aging process we studied the Fc receptor- mediated clearance of IgG-coated erythrocytes in 56 healthy normal volunteers by following the removal of radiolabeled autologous erythrocytes. An age-related decrease in Fc-mediated clearance rates in both female and male subjects was found, which suggests a physiological decline of this macrophage function in older individuals.

Zenker’s diverticulum, which is herniation of pharyngeal mucosa, typically occurs in the elderly population with dysphagia, regurgitation, halitosis, and malnutrition. Here we report one case of Zenker’s diverticulum and nursing care and diagnosis process. The patient complained of weight loss, halitosis and intermittent periods of cough. It was diagnosed that the patient had stage two Zenker’s diverticulum on the upper part of esophagus and back to thyroid gland. The patient successfully underwent surgery and stayed five days in hospital. After the postoperative third day it was allowed the patient’s oral feeding. After an uneventful recovery and adequate oral intake, the patient was discharged on the fifth postoperative day.

Several factors (the lengthening of the average and, to a lesser extent, of the maximum human life span; the increase in percentage of elderly in the population and in the proportion of the national expenditure utilized by the elderly) have stimulated and continue to expand the study of aging. Recently, the view of aging as an extremely complex multifactorial process has replaced the earlier search for a distinct cause such as a single gene or the decline of a key body system. This minireview keeps in mind the multiplicity of mechanisms regulating aging; examines them at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels; and explores the possibility of interactions at these three levels. The heterogeneity of the aging phenotype among individuals of the same species and differences in longevity among species underline the contribution of both genetic and environmental factors in shaping the life span. Thus, the presence of several trajectories of the life span, from incidence of disease and disability to absence of pathology and persistence of function, suggest that it is possible to experimentally (e.g., by calorie restriction) prolong functional plasticity and life span. In this minireview, several theories are identified only briefly; a few (evolutionary, gene regulation, cellular senescence, free radical, and neuro-endocrineimmuno theories) are discussed in more detail, at molecular, cellular, and systemic levels.

Abstract The present article aims to analyze the changes in supplementary health and their effects on the adherence to and maintenance within health plans of the elderly, to demonstrate the current state of the care model offered, and to begin the debate regarding the importance of changing care models and remuneration in the sector. It was observed that turnover in health plans was lower among the elderly than among the non-elderly population, with greater adherence to individual and pre-regulation plans and a very low adherence to dental plans. The elderly were also more representative over the previous year, demonstrating a greater need for permanence in times of economic crisis. Care and cost data point to the urgent need to reformulate the care practice, supported by structures that are practically non-existent in Brazilian supplemental health care today and are not funded in the sector (such as palliative care and care management physicians, among others).

Abstract Studies have shown reductions in the immune response capacity with the aging process (immunosenescence). Lifestyle factors (physical activity and diet) have been investigated as possible adjuvants to improve the effect of vaccines on the immune system in the elderly. The aim of this opinion article is to analyze studies on physical activity and the effect of influenza vaccines in an attempt to suggest that their results can also be found in future studies on physical activity and vaccines against COVID-19. Considering the results of the studies analyzed, it could be suggested that the practice of physical activity improves responses to the influenza vaccine. Thus, it could be assumed that, when transferring these findings to COVID-19, the importance of regular physical activity in the specific elderly population becomes extremely relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gangguan mood rentan diderita para penderita berusia lanjut. ABSTRACTMood disorders are susceptible to elderly sufferers. Statistics show, there is an increase in the presentation of mood disorder, especially in the elderly population. This is probably caused by the symptoms of post power syndrome which causes the elderly to become stressed and depressed. Other causes that can trigger are comorbid diseases that accompany and then cause rapid mood changes. Diabetes, hypertension, and coronary heart disease, for example, are thought to cause lost of strength, difficulty adjusting, and depression. Suicides in the elderly with mood disorders can also occur almost every day. The importance of early detection and diagnosis is important in order to get early therapy. Mood disorders in elderly are not a natural thing related to the aging process, but a pathological disorder that can be treated.Key words: mood disorders, depression, manic, elderly, geriatrics.

Sustainable technologies are being increasingly used in various areas of human life. While they have a multitude of benefits, they are especially useful in health monitoring, especially for certain groups of people, such as the elderly. However, there are still several issues that need to be addressed before its use becomes widespread. This work aims to clarify the aspects that are of great importance for increasing the acceptance of the use of this type of technology in the elderly. In addition, we aim to clarify whether the technologies that are already available are able to ensure acceptable accuracy and whether they could replace some of the manual approaches that are currently being used. A two-week study with people 65 years of age and over was conducted to address the questions posed here, and the results were evaluated. It was demonstrated that simplicity of use and automatic functioning play a crucial role. It was also concluded that technology cannot yet completely replace traditional methods such as questionnaires in some areas. Although the technologies that were tested were classified as being “easy to use”, the elderly population in the current study indicated that they were not sure that they would use these technologies regularly in the long term because the added value is not always clear, among other issues. Therefore, awareness-raising must take place in parallel with the development of technologies and services.

ABSTRACT Infection in the elderly is the second leading cause of morbidity and death in the world after cardiovascular disease. This event is closely related to the increase in the elderly population in the last few decades caused by an increase in human life expectancy. The causes of infection in elderly due to the presence of considerable chronic comorbidities, decreased resistance or immunity to infection, decreased communication power in the elderly and difficulty recognizing signs of infection early. Infection in the elderly is not only more frequent and more severe, but also have specialties related to clinical, laboratory and microbiological presentations. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the predisposition of infectious diseases in the elderly, immunesenescence in the elderly, the appropriate diagnostic and treatment approach in cases of infection in the elderly.
