Deteriorating environmental conditions can be a hindrance in creating a sustainable economic development so that necessary concern of all parties. The study aims to identify the industrial sectors causing the heaviest pollution and to confirm the environmental economic theories applicable to the condition in South Sulawesi. The study objects are the economic activities in South Sulawesi as summarized in the I-O table transactions. The data used are secondary data of the income per capita and of environmental pollution, table I-O of South Sulawesi in 2010, and the IPPS standard of pollution intensity estimate, and cost coefficient for pollution eradication. The tools used are conventional input-output, environmental input-output, and trend analyses. The reveals that the chemical and metal manufacturing industry sectors are the primary causes of severe pollution in South Sulawesi in 2010 and the environmental economic cases tend to comply with Hypothesis Haven. This research is an academic study limited only to investigate the role of economic activities in industrial manufacturing sector so that further study can be foccused on the role of the whole activities of the economic sector in the environmental pollution.

This study aimed to analyze the linkages between sectors, multiplier and the investment sector’s role in increasing the amount of output and the amount of labor that can be absorbed in the economy in the Province of Central Java. This study used a quantitative approach with secondary data. The analytical tool used was the analysis of input-output tables Province of Central Java in 2013 primarily relies on domestic transactions table on the basis of producer prices. The results showed the role of economy based on the analysis forward linkages and backward linkages can be divided into leading sectors, growing sector, potential sectors and underdeveloped sector. Sectors with the highest output multiplier is the manufacturing sector. Sector with the highest labor multiplier is the agricultural sector. The results also showed that the leading sectors also have a growing sectors impact on the highest output and labor absorption of final demand investment, that is trade, hotels and restaurants; Manufacturing Industry; and agriculture. Increased investment will increase the value of output and an increase in output will increase employment. At last, investments have a positive relationship with employment.

PurposeOpen innovation breadth (OIB) considers the diversity of external collaboration partners for innovation. The authors investigate the moderating effect of OIB on the relationship between industrial innovation activities (innovation inputs) and industrial innovation results (innovation outputs).Design/methodology/approachThis study is based on secondary data from the Brazilian innovation survey, representing more than 30,000 innovative companies across 55 industrial sectors.FindingsThis study’s results show that OIB has different moderating effects regarding the several innovation input–output relationships. While OIB benefits some relationships, others are hampered by the diversity of collaboration partners.Originality/valueFew studies have addressed OIB at the macro level. Using the perspective of transaction cost economics (TCE), the authors discuss the contributions and limitations of OIB at the industry level.

The paper refers to the construction of some Indexes of Competitiveness and their application to the empirical analysis of the behaviour of Italian manufacturing industry in recent years. The idea is that an essential role in competitiveness is played by the specific characteristics of the goods and services concerned. With particular reference to competition between a mature economy (like Italy) and an emergent one (e.g. like China), attention is specifically directed to the behaviour of goods' demand and supply according to their characteristics. Then, an extended Leontief Input-Output model is pursued including the impact of goods' characteristics. At the empirical level, the role of goods' characteristics is analysed as to the behaviour of competitiveness of Italian manufacturing products in the period from 2000 to 2008.

This chapter describes the current situation of the chemical manufacturing industry and looks to the future demands on the sector such as: for sustainability, the advent of new bio-based feedstocks for improved energy management and the implications of these demands on the sector. These implications include definitions of sustainability criteria for the chemical manufacturing industry and the need for transparent reporting following the Triple Bottom Line approach. The important role of chemical (or more generally, process) engineers in delivering bio-based sustainable solutions is emphasised, but this also suggests that a new way of thinking about the discipline is required. Indeed, there are arguments that the demand for a sustainable chemical manufacturing sector could bring about the next paradigm shift in the discipline with concomitant education implications.

Background: Economic sustainability is an important ingredient of sustainable development. Sustainable development is the positive changes in a pattern of resources use in such a way that present needs can be met without destroying the ability for the future generations to meet their needs. Furthermore, renewable energy as an essential ingredient of environment comes from resources which are continually replenished. Renewable energy technologies such as biogas, solar and micro-hydro are widely promoted in Nepal and biogas only considered for this study. Objective: To examine role of biogas for economic sustainability in Nepal based on a case study of Niglihawa VDC of Kapilvastu district.Methodology: This study consists of descriptive cum analytical research design and based on both primary and secondary data. The users’ perspectives of sixteen out of twenty two biogas users have been collected by using structured questionnaire. Moreover, the simple statistical techniques of analysis such as table, percentage, and graphs have been employed in this study. Results: Biogas is an important factor in relation to enterprises and employment through saving time and creating agro-based micro enterprises. Biogas also contributes for economic activities through utilizing bio-slurry as feed and fertilizer. Conclusion: Biogas plays the vital role for the economic sustainability through creating enterprises and employment as well as utilizing bio-slurry as fish meal and fertilizer in the context of Nepal in one way or another. The results may be varied in other area and/or sector of Nepal and beyond.

This research was undertaken to examine the manufacturing sector as an alternative to Nigeria’s petroleum dependence economy by dissecting its problems and how-to repositioning it for a viable diversification. The ex-post facto research method was adopted using impeccable secondary data sources. Insecurity and poor political governance were among other impediments to the manufacturing optimum performance, and strengthening the political institution for an all-inclusive government, amongst others, is proffered as panacea.

ABSTRACT The Purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the factors that effect of fraud in financial statements that occur in companies. And also analyzes the impact of political connections as a moderating variable that strengthens or weakens the factors that influences fraud in the financial statements. The author collects empirical study data from manufacture industry companies, using secondary data taken from annual reporting of companies listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange and analyzes them using the SPSS program. A total of 60 units of data analysis that meet the criteria and can be used as sample in the research. This research reveals that effective monitoring and change of director has a positive and significant effect on financial statement of fraudulent. A set of financial targets, changes of auditors, and the frequencies of CEO pictures have not effect on fraudulent of financial statement.
