The optimum sizing of photovoltaic technologies depends on certain variables such as the daily energy consumption of buildings and available solar potential of the location. The purpose of this paper is to define the optimum photovoltaic panel area with no battery system to supply the daytime electricity usage of a Vocational School in Sanl?urfa, Turkey. First, the maximum photovoltaic panel areas are found at the 100% self-consumption for the Mono-Si, Multi-Si, and CdTe photovoltaic technologies. Besides, for defining optimum installation powers, an economic analysis has been carried out. The seasonal performances of economical optimum capacities are investigated under the feed-in tariff scenario. At 100% self-consumption, the maximum photovoltaic panel areas are found 130 m2, 160 m2, and 170 m2 for Mono-Si, Multi-Si and CdTe respectively. The results show that the installation of Mono-Si (115 m2), Multi-Si (150 m2), and CdTe (210 m2) photovoltaic systems at 1.65, 1.75, and 2.3 times as the daily peak electricity consumption, is the most optimal selection according to economic indicators.

AbstractNon-residential buildings in the European Union consume more than one third of the building sector’s total. Many non-residential buildings are owned by municipalities. This paper reports about an energy saving competition that was carried out in 91 municipal buildings in eight EU member states in 2019. For each public building an energy team was formed. The energy teams’ activities encompassed motivating changes in the energy use behaviour of employees and small investments. Two challenges added an element of gamification to the energy saving competition. To assess the success of the energy saving competition, an energy performance baseline was calculated using energy consumption data of each public building from previous years. Energy consumption in the competition year was monitored on a monthly base. After the competition the top energy savers from each country were determined by the percentage-based reduction of energy consumption compared to the baseline. On average, the buildings had an electricity and heat consumption in 2019 that was about 8 % and 7 %, respectively, lower than the baseline. As an additional data source for the evaluation, a survey among energy team members was conducted at the beginning and after the energy competition. Support from superiors, employee interest and motivation and behaviour change as assessed by energy team members show a positive, if weak or moderate, correlation with changes in electricity consumption, but not with changes in heat consumption.

The paper presents the results of calculations of energy consumption and economic analysis of the operation of micro photovoltaic installations. Calculations have been made for a single-family house with an energy demand based on real electricity consumption. Two cases have been considered. In the first one, the photovoltaic system contains only PV modules and an inverter. Energy produced is sent to the power grid. In the second case, the PV system also contains batteries. Because of existing regulation conditions, it is better to accumulate produced energy than to sell it to the grid. Costs of construction of the PV systems and money savings during operation of the PV systems have been compared. Conclusions of profitability of analyzed systems have been presented.

The paper proposing the cloud based internet of things for the smart connected objects, concentrates on developing a smart home utilizing the internet of things, by providing the embedded labeling for all the tangible things at home and enabling them to be connected through the internet. The smart home proposed in the paper concentrates on the steps in reducing the electricity consumption of the appliances at the home by converting them into the smart connected objects using the cloud based internet of things and also concentrates on protecting the house from the theft and the robbery. The proposed smart home by turning the ordinary tangible objects into the smart connected objects shows considerable improvement in the energy consumption and the security provision.

В исследовании участвовали 20 спортсменов-юниоров (мастера спорта и кандидаты в мастера спорта) в возрасте 17-18 лет и 10 добровольцев соответствующего возраста и интенсивности физической нагрузки. В результате исследований установлено, что суммарная калорийность потребленных за сутки продуктов в основном соответствовала энерготратам спортсменов обследованных групп. Соотношение белки/жиры/углеводы в суточном рационе спортсменов свидетельствует о недостаточной квоте углеводов в соответствии с формулой оптимального питания для юных спортсменов. При этом потребление добавленного сахара у спортсменов всех категорий превышало рекомендуемый уровень (10% от калорийности суточного рациона). The study involved 20 junior athletes (masters of sports and candidates for masters of sports) aged 17-18 and 10 volunteers of the corresponding age and intensity of physical activity. As a result of the research, it was found that the total calorie content of products consumed per day basically corresponded to the energy consumption of athletes in the surveyed groups. The ratio of protein / fat / carbohydrates in the daily diet of athletes indicates an insufficient carbohydrate quota in accordance with the optimal nutrition formula for young athletes. At the same time, the consumption of added sugar in athletes of all categories exceeded the recommended level (10% of the caloric content of the daily diet).

This paper compares the potential for building energy saving of various passive and active strategies and on-site power generation through a grid-connected solar photovoltaic system (SPVS). The case study is a student welfare unit from a university campus located in the tropical climate (Aw) of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The proposed approach aims to identify the most effective energy saving strategy for building retrofit in this climate. For this purpose, we modeled the base line of the building and proposed energy saving scenarios that were evaluated independently. All building simulations were done in OpenStudio-EnergyPlus, while the on-site power generation was carried out using the Homer PRO software. Results indicated that the incorporation of daylighting controls accounted for the highest energy savings of around 20% and 14% in total building energy consumption, and cooling loads, respectively. Also, this strategy provided a reduction of about 35% and 43% in total building energy consumption, and cooling loads, respectively, when combined with triple low-e coating glazing and active measures. On the other hand, the total annual electric energy delivered by the SPVS (output power converter) was 66,590 kWh, from where 48,497 kWh was supplied to the building while the remaining electricity was injected into the grid.

Fixed effects panel models are used to estimate how the electricity and gas consumption of various sectors and residents relate to temperature in Mexico, while controlling for the effects of income, manufacturing output per capita, electricity and gas prices and household size. We find non-linear relationships between energy consumption and temperature, which are heterogeneous per state. Electricity consumption increases with temperature, and this effect is stronger in warm states. Liquified petroleum gas consumption declines with temperature, and this effect is slightly stronger in cold states. Extrapolations of electricity and gas consumption under a high warming scenario reveal that electricity consumption by the end of the century for Mexico increases by 12%, while gas consumption declines with 10%, resulting in substantial net economic costs of 43 billion pesos per year. The increase in net energy consumption implies greater efforts to comply with the mitigation commitments of Mexico and requires a much faster energy transition and substantial improvements in energy efficiency. The results suggest that challenges posed by climate change also provide important opportunities for advancing social sustainability goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Although the latest energy-efficient buildings use a large number of sensors and measuring instruments to predict consumption more accurately, it is generally not possible to identify which data are the most valuable or key for analysis among the tens of thousands of data points. This study selected the electric energy as a subset of total building energy consumption because it accounts for more than 65% of the total building energy consumption, and identified the variables that contribute to electric energy use. However, this study aimed to confirm data from a building using clustering in machine learning, instead of a calculation method from engineering simulation, to examine the variables that were identified and determine whether these variables had a strong correlation with energy consumption. Three different methods confirmed that the major variables related to electric energy consumption were significant. This research has significance because it was able to identify the factors in electric energy, accounting for more than half of the total building energy consumption, that had a major effect on energy consumption and revealed that these key variables alone, not the default values of many different items in simulation analysis, can ensure the reliable prediction of energy consumption.

Based on 107 data of public building energy auditing and energy consumption statistics, using multiple linear regression method, this paper given an equation for calculating energy public building consumption quota. It can get energy consumption quota simply and conveniently. The equation was close to actual energy consumption of public buildings. It consider building area, heating degree day (HDD) and building type. The results can be help the government formulate the energy consumption quota for public buildings.

Electric vehicle (EV) has become a potential traffic tool, which has attracted researchers to explore various traffic phenomena caused by EV (e.g. congestion, electricity consumption, etc.). In this paper, we study the energy consumption (including the fuel consumption and the electricity consumption) and emissions of heterogeneous traffic flow (that consists of the traditional vehicle (TV) and EV) under three traffic situations (i.e. uniform flow, shock and rarefaction waves, and a small perturbation) from the perspective of macro traffic flow. The numerical results show that the proportion of electric vehicular flow has great effects on the TV’s fuel consumption and emissions and the EV’s electricity consumption, i.e. the fuel consumption and emissions decrease while the electricity consumption increases with the increase of the proportion of electric vehicular flow. The results can help us better understand the energy consumption and emissions of the heterogeneous traffic flow consisting of TV and EV.
