Abstract Products can be promoted by improving their value using shitsukan, that is, feelings or impressions of the perception of their material appearance. Particularly, products made of leather are generally attractive to consumers. Although the number of products made from artificial leather has been increasing in recent years, the impression of their appearance is different from that of products made of genuine leather. This study investigates the impression elicited by leather and proposes a model to assess people’s feeling of its authenticity. We developed a measurement system and conducted subjective evaluation experiments on two groups of participants divided according to whether they were familiar with leather. The proposed evaluation model is based on a visual perception mechanism. We first investigated the correlation between characteristics of image samples and impression factors estimated by using factor analysis. Then, we confirmed the correlation among the impression factors and values of the feeling of authenticity. The R-squared value between subjective values of the feeling of authenticity and our proposed assessment values was approximately 0.8.

Abstract Background The Family Reported Outcome Measure (FROM-16) assesses the impact of a patient’s chronic illness on the quality of life (QoL) of the patient’s partner or family members. The aim of the study was to translate, explore the structure of and validate the FROM-16. Methods The questionnaire was translated from English into German (forward, backward, four independent translators). Six interviews with family members were conducted to confirm the questionnaire for linguistic, conceptual, semantic and experiential equivalence and its practicability. The final German translation was tested for internal consistency, reproducibility and test validity. Criterion validity was tested by correlating the scores of the FROM-16 and the Global Health Scale (GHS). Principal component analysis, factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis was used to assess the questionnaire’s structure and its domains. Reliability and reproducibility were tested computing the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) using one sample t-test for testing the hypothesis that the difference between the scores was not different from zero. Results Overall, 83 family members (61% female, median age: 61 years) completed the questionnaire at two different times (mean interval: 22 days). Internal consistency was good for the FROM-16 scores (Cronbach’s α for total score = 0.86). In those with stable GHS, the ICC for the total score was 0.87 and the difference was not different from zero (p = 0.262) indicating reproducible results. A bi-factor model with a general factor including all items, and two sub-factors comprising the items from the original 2-factor construct had the best fit. Conclusions The German FROM-16 has good reliability, test validity and practicability. It can be considered as an appropriate and generic tool to measure QoL of a patient’s partner or family member. Due to the presence of several cross-loadings we do not recommend the reporting of the scores of the two domains proposed for the original version of FROM-16 when using the German version. Thus, in reporting the results emphasis should be put on the total score. Trial registration: Retrospectively registered: DRKS00021070.

It is very difficult to confirm the position of the center of gravity irregular object. This paper introduces a new system, which can be used in measuring and adjusting of the center of gravity. The irregular object was put on the support parts, then the center of gravity was given. When the actual position was compared with the ideal position, the difference was given. Until actual position and ideal position were coincided, the machining was continuing. Matlab was programmed in this measure system. It will be applied widely in the future.

The heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is one of the most critical sources in in-vehicle noise environment, especially when cars are moving at low speed or at lower engine rotation. With the transition to electric vehicles (EV) from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV), the contribution of powertrain becomes lower on the background noise inside car cabins. The authors have been conducting a collaborative research on HVAC sound quality inside car cabins. In this paper the results of a subjective evaluation of HVAC sound quality were presented, that attempted to compare the perceptual differences among the two groups, i.e. EVs and ICEVs. The result revealed the difference in the noise perception among the two types of vehicles especially softer air flow rate conditions.

This study sought to assess if the importance attached by customers to the airline service attributes differed across low-cost and full-service airline models. A Mann-Whitney U Test was used to assess the difference between the two models. However, before subjecting the data to differential tests, an exploratory factor analysis (maximum likelihood) was performed on the fifty-five items of service attributes, reducing them into forty-two items retained into ten latent factors (airline service attributes). The results of the revealed a significant difference in the importance attached to staff competence, courtesy and responsiveness only. Such findings suggest that the positioning of airlines into binary (FSC - LCC) models could be a waste of effort and resources since airlines seem to be converging.

ABSTRACT Home visit is a responsive service that is urgent, so it needs to be implemented immediately to help students solve problems faced. If home visit is not done well, the problem will have a more complex impact on students. The purpose of the study was to determine the performance of counselors according to or not with the standards and professional counselor evaluation criteria for Comprehensive (Evaluation Model South Carolina) counseling guidance to make decisions or follow-up the programs that have been implemented. The research method used is descriptive evaluation using the Model Evaluation Discrepancy. This model measures the difference between performance standards and real conditions that have been implemented. The instrument of this research is using questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that home visits conducted by counselors at Santa Maria Malang Middle School in the category "close from standard". Keywords: home visit, model evaluation discrepancy

In order to improve the transmission efficiency and carrying capacity of conventional single-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT), one new type of dual-belt CVT is proposed in this paper. Under the situation that this new dual-belt CVT should be switched between single- and dual-belt modes frequently according to driver’s intention and road conditions, so five objective evaluation indexes of mode switching quality for the dual-belt CVT are proposed, considering the aspects of vehicle power, comfort, and transmission durability comprehensively. Then, the objective evaluation model of mode switching quality is established by the BP neural network optimized by the genetic algorithm. It is found that the prediction results are consistent with the subjective evaluation. After analyzing the influence of the selected five evaluation indexes on the prediction results, it is obvious that these five evaluation indexes of mode switching quality for dual-belt CVT are reasonable.
